Just a little update to your video, from third party companies, there is a screwdriver for amazfit T-rex Ultra as well as a lot of different replacement bands in nylon, metal, leather etc. :D
As a trex pro owner, I’d be more interested in this at $300. The new features do not justify a 100% price increase over previous model.
I have the trex 2 and I agree. For $400, I'd be looking at other brands. I'm more than happy with my trex 2, and part of that was the price point.
@@joshuafuhrmeister7279 I believe Amazfit is now in Target and bestbuy so price increases were inevitable, unfortunately. I love my Trex pro I don’t even see a reason to upgrade to a trex 2 because the amount of notable features they add to each generation is minimal. Perhaps I’ll wait for a holiday sale and see what the discounts are.
I come from the gtr when it was new lol.
Things I like about Garmin. The scores, the metrics and the details you get from each run. But watch to watch... Amazfit was decent. I'm really curious to try again after using Garmin for years. I'm curious how it's all can't together over the last few years
I have T Rex 2 and I agree too
Amazfit T-Rex (1st gen) is my best sport buddy when hiking and swimming for few years. My friends are now Amazfit fans now.
Ordered one earlier at release - so glad you were able to do a review!
Curses! Older HR sensor
Can you pan around the map w the touchscreen?
If the sport metrics get better with an external HR sensor, it is a viable option for a wide range of people. If they don't, they need to work hard in that direction in order to compete. They're certainly moving in the right direction, very fast.
Agreed. I have the Falcon and love the quality, but I still primarily use my Epix and Fenix. Though I've had my eye on this company as they are trending the right direction really fast.
Great review, thanks!
On the hr accuracy outside, it could be that due to the shape of the watch ambient light spills below it and gives noise in the reading. In a closed controlled environment lighting will likely be much more constant, reducing the noise to filter out.
That could be the case! I do have smaller wrists so that probably doesn't help either. Unfortunately, I haven't had great luck with Amazfit products and Heart Rate accuracy.
Thanks for the more detailed offline map n navigation explanation.
Thanks for the great review, I've just purchased the t rex ultra to assist me withy running
Loving the new studio. Awesome lighting esp product closeup 👍🏻
Glad you like it!
I think is a T Rex 2 with premium materials and some extra features! Great video 👍🏻
Mapping and Navigation is my main reason for buying a Garmin Epix. It's wild how good this watch is in the back country. Amazfit doesn't look bad though.
Two videos in one day? He's back!!! 🙌
I just ordered my ultra! After watching your video i feel confident i did a great decision to go with it. My first option was iWatch from apple but a lot of money!!!!
That was a great in depth review. helped me a lot in deciding weather to get this watch or not.. and i got it!
Still rocking a Garmin 245 does everything 💪🏼
Great video as always!
Seems to be a great watch. Especially for the price!! But I really love the Garmin Connect platform so I will always stick to Garmin.
Once again precise in-depth review. Congrats!
Amazfit Pace was my very first gps watch for running, back in 2017. Right afterwards I upgraded to Amazfit Stratos when it was released. Both watches gave me a lot of happiness (ran my first half marathon with Pace version and first marathon with Stratos version. Both were accurated), but after two years of intense usage gps became unaccurate. No software upgrade, no technical assistance in Brazil, then I saw it was time to updgrade again. Then I started in Garmin path. 245 then 255.
I think Amazfit a very good watch, beautiful piece, however when we are talking about sports/healthy accuracy mesuring I stick with Garmin and problably other brands like it. Maybe it's a trauma. hahaha.
But I stil do respect and have compliments to Amazfit. If I don't run, I'd probably have an Amazfit.
Amazfit only good look
Hi just curious. Why did you go from the 245 to the 255? For the upgrade or did the watch go bad? Was it a big change in terms of features that was worth it?
@@amircastilla07 My eyes sight is a little tired. I believed going to a bigger screen I'd have bigger fonts, then I could read the screen easier. Terrible mistake. In the beggining was ok. But after a few Firmware updates Garmin reduced the font sizes. At Garmin Forums we are in constant discussion why they have reduced fonts in a bigger screen (255). If you have a 245 and feel happy with it I don't see any need to upgrade, in terms of features. Tech in both watches are awesome. Of course, 255 has some better points (because has more updated tech). You probably had seen in this wonderful channel, as well as full info about 245.
Good tranings.
Great review! Just like to point out that if I’m not wrong, the Apple Watch Ultra display maxes out at 2000 nits instead of 1000 nits.
Yep, that was a mistake. I meant to reference the Garmin Epix... Whoops!
yeah. AW s8 has 1000.
this is my fav watch, i 've waited for it so long time, its must be the best product most ppl wanna used !
As usual an honest, very healthy and objective review, very happy for the good sport watches options with great quality. This will put bigger brands to sweat a little bit.
Thanks for the in-depth professional review as always! I’ve been in the market for a premium sport watch outside Apple and have been keeping an eye on this brand. It sucks they made all these great cosmetic upgrades, but still chose the terrible first generation HR sensor when they just introduced a brand new one in a watch (gtr 4) that cost half the price. Garmin it is.
100% agree. I don’t why they continue use it.
Hopefully the next phone gets the internal upgrades
Got my attention, they are definitely getting better.
Excellent & detailed…well done!
Hi Dave!!!... Great review as always and very nice studio set up. As for the watch adding weight for looks and feels is not the way to go. The lighter the watch the better at least for me. Looks like a good device for adventurers but not for runners. Cheers from México.
Size and weight is certainly a personal preference. I do like lighter watches as well but this one does feel really well built.
Regarding the map download, you could just make a phone hotspot to create a wifi connection for the watch.
Yup, it’s still a bit clunky though and like I said it takes several hours to download over a strong WiFi connection at my home. Over a hotspot might be a lot longer.
Now this is some in depth review 😮
I switched from Coros Vertex to TREX2 in December, and while I can’t comment on the Ultra, I can say that I agree with many points on the brand. First, HR is hit or miss. However, Coros HR problems has their own HR problems. I try and stick with HR band when I’m concerned about accuracy, regardless. I love everything else about the watch except the Strava integration. They don’t send elevation data to Strava so Strava has to use its own topography maps to estimate elevation gains. When training for a mountain/elevation race, having an accurate reading of total elevation gain is crucial. Strava’s estimate reduces total elevation by 30-45%. It’s ugly.
Very bad is that you're saying about strava integration. I'm thinking to buy a GTR4 now and this will make men think..
Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@ChaseTheSummit I should mention that I reached out to Amazfit and they said they would consider my recommendation to include elevation data when communicating to Strava, but I doubt it’s a popular request as I’m sure many people are paying close attention to the variances.
My TR2 can't connect external bike speed sensor 😞
@@nugetta can you connect any sensors? I can connect my HR sensor only after I updated the firmware
The best watch right now is amazefit balance
Wow !!! Thx for the review ☺️
Super vidéo, comme toujours 👍 kiss from France 😉
Thank you for depth info. Can I use coordinates offline navigation? I planning for a trip to the Sahara desert
Question: i had the galaxy watch active, and I've noticed that after some time, the step counter would no longer be accurate. Is the amazefit better than samsung?
Good review more details delivered👍
The creame/silver/gold version is possibly the best looking smartwatch to ever exist! sad the trex uktra isn't available in Australia
Cheers! What about a video comparing Falcon, TRex Ultra, TRex 2, GTR 4 and whatever other models Amazfit has?
I’ll see what I can do!
I was hoping for the same thing.
Great, thorough review, but I wish you talked about how to answer calls😕
Thank you for the video bro
Hello. Really enjoy the review Amazfit T-REX Ultra. Just wondering does this smartwatch compatible to Android Google Play store?
Dang!!! I want that stufff... cool battery life... I used Amazfit Bip S for 30-40 days battery life
Hi i am a gshock fan. I want to buy a smart watch for running, hunting and work (law enforcement). Would you suggest for first watch Amazfit trx ultra, garmin fenix 7x pro or epic pro gen 2 sapphire?
Your Videos are brilliant!!
Glad you like them!
I have one and love it
Great review! So similar to the Garmin Epix. I find the design a little garish though...
Hi, Great review, it just you didnt mention whether it has s depth sensor and if it shows depth in freediving mode? Amazfit claims it does in the specs yet for some reason no reviews mention that important upgrade feature. Or maybe amazfit misleading about this. So does it have a depth meter and shows depth info on display? Supposedly it has an automatic diving and surface interval timer on display in freediving mode too. Can you confirm that?
Thanks
Would like to see how the Coros Apex 2 Pro compares with the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra. I feel like there are several similarities.
HR sensor (or software) sucks indeed. I got the standard trex, could be accurate AF or could be all over the place (e.g. when close to HR max, might show some ridiculous value like 80bpm)
I thought I would agree with the previous comment of $300 to be a just price for me to consider upgrading from my TRex 2, but after watching the details on the new map features - I pass. To my opinion TRex 2 is still a perfect balance of price/features/quality.
The only bad thing is that doesn't have call answer
That car wash feature is awesome honestly
Ha! Pretty neat!
Just got the trex ultra, how do i go a hike and get it too record my trail so i can breadcrumb return if i need too?
Even though the technical features are closer to the tier 1 brands, the infrastructure that a watch brings makes the big difference, , such as Garmin Connect, this is still unmatched in my opinion. That's why I think that the infrastructure that a watch brings with it must also be taken into account when assessing the price. Then a wristband that cannot be replaced? Really? Even the expensive plastic straps from Garmin look worn and no longer beautiful after half a year, which is why I find it essential to be able to replace the strap. Non-exchangeable straps can only be justified on watches that are not made for sport.
MrTwixraider:
I agree with pretty much everything you said.
But "expensive plastic" straps from Garmin? Please.
Watch straps should ALWAYS be replaceable!
EVERYONE likes their own strap.
Exactly... and plastic watch straps never, EVER, break.
When I heard Amazfit's response of 'non-replacable'... I nearly shat myself
I just can't not have a rotating bevel. It's so handy to have not having to use buttons. My Samsung classic 4 tracks everything you want. Is 💧 so good when I paddle board. The battery could be better but charges off a phone so not the end of the world. Taking calls independently too is helpful.
It took me 5 minutes to download a map of my town to the watch.
And, while i did have to download another app, it did give me turn by turn directions (through Google maps on my phone phone, lol).
Will you also check out the GBD-H2000? I'm very interested in the watch, but the reports about the heart rate sensor and a very bad software make a disappointing impression again. I trust your reviews the most and would appreciate it.
What app in PC can we use for GPS and heart rate compare say Im having three watch brand ?
Looks better on the wrist than in pics
For loading maps at the trailhead, could you try connecting the watch to your mobile hotspot and then do it? Seems like that'd be a workaround the Wi-Fi issue.
Sure could, but it does take a very long time to download the maps.
A 100 days watch be coming soon. it is just the display that eats power and some leds. I mean my vivoactive HR runs 20 days with always on display, reflective and good visibility in sunlight. Amazfit could easily make these outdoor rugged watches the same way. Stunning outdoors.
I have the trex pro. And one of the things that get on my nerves is not being able to make or receive calls. Can you do that with the ultra?
I really want this but I'll stick to my tic watch 3 gps, and wait for them to make one like this. Maybe pick up a T-Rex pro 2
Hello Nice Review Bro
Does it connect with bike Cadence and Speed Sensors?
Thanks
The mapping is interesting but without the ability to load routes would be of limited use to me. I have used a T Rex Pro 2 and have to agree about the heart rate sensor. I would quite often would look down while running and there would be no way that my heart was beating that fast. At least on this watch you can pair an ECG chest strap.
You can load GPX file routes as well. I probably should have mentioned that but that feature isn’t entirely new.
@@ChaseTheSummit To be honest here in the UK I have gone down the route( 😁 )of using the excellent Ordnance Survey app on my phone. It gives you access to detailed maps of the entire country for £25 pa. With that I find a Garmin 255 s all I need.
...to change the band on the t rex ultra you need a small hexagonal plummer screwdriver size T3 which are easily found in a hardware store...then i added an inexpensive Abanen nylon hook and loop band...made such a great difference...
I don't think a T3 would fit. That's a Torx bit. These are very unique looking.
that is what they instruct on the Amazfit site on changing the Ultra band...fits perfectly...a bit tedious since the screw and screwdriver are so small but worked great...
@@ChaseTheSummit
Trex have to do more with navigation..that's very important..
I don't understand why Trex 2 didn't support diving mode. What for 10atm?
do you get to keep some of the watches?
i am confused between Garmin Instinct 2 and T Rex Ultra. Which one should i go for?
Great review. Its very appealing but as you mentioned on the video the heart rate sensor is very DISAPPOINTING. I don’t understand WHY Amazfit will launch 2nd new watch after the GTR 4 with “improve heart rate sensor” and still use the old heart rate sensor. I could by for another $100 a new Garmin 965 with better performance all around (gps, heart rate, mapping, music, etc) non military specs. Yes, I agree with you that Amazfit is moving in the right direction with mapping , gps but cannot get the heart rate right. Can you please make a short review of the heart rate sensor on the GTR 4.
Gtr4 heart rate Its not so good as well. I tried for a week and returned. Too many bugs overall including the same old problems from gtr3 ( errors in the music upload. Bugs on the apps you download...very disappointing. In short: you get what you pay for
If you want a sports watch I would say that a decent heartrate monitor should be the top priority and then you can skimp on things like social media notifications and music for all I care. Also build quality comes to mind and while this watch is designed a bit like the Rambo knife's with built in needle compass, fishing line and first aid kit, sometimes less is more if it includes top quality components instead of flashy 'eye candy'. Personally I want my sports watch to be a tough as nails and focussing purely on the sports aspect. I don't care about golf, fishing, dancing, playing computer games, or social media notifications, and would much rather that those resources/money were spent on quality. I think the closest I can get to that these days for the lowest price is the Fenix 7 sapphire solar, which certainly isn't a cheap watch but probably lasts better than most others and even carry a decent second had price if you want to upgrade as the new model's come onto the market.
Garmin's certainly hold their value.
Thank you for the excellent review 👍🏻. I have two questions. What is the function of the metal piece that has the name of the watch on it, and does it mean that water entering it will be a disturbing thing? Another question, do you expect it to be a good thing to upgrade my watch from Pro 1 to Ultra? Would that be a good option, because I really liked the animated backgrounds in the different watch faces, which I expect is an option that is not available in Pro 1, and thank you very much.
The metal piece is protecting an opening for the Altimeter/Barometer this is by design and does not affect the water resistance rating of the watch.
is the wristband replaceable if worn out?
So do you think it's trex ultra worth the double price as compared to trex 2?
You should be able to turn hotspot on your phone, which should show up as a wifi connection.... this should allow you to download maps to the watch while outside of the home.
I say "should" - I cannot confirm this. Regardless, I don't think any of us would wait 1-2 hours for it to download to the watch while NOT at home.
how does it compared to the T-Rex2? is it worth the upgrade or save $200 and get the TRex 2?
can you use this watch when surfing in the sea?
Have to tested the accuracy of their earbuds yes amazfit earbuds they have. 2 models
So the Garmin still it is the better option overall... But for me I need a separate diving computer with wireless tank oxygen sensor... so I will say still we don't have a serious combination with all these watches to dive properly.....
I will be interested in amazfit once they figure out the HR sensor problem … until then GARMIN has no competition
Using their old gen sensors in this $400 watch is a massive fail when they got them in the $200 GTR 4. Accurate data trumps all and the new sensors are much better.
i'm using instinct solar from 2020. since then, i've sent it 3 time for warranty claim. random shut down and battery issues. the problem persist, even they have replaced it with new one. it's my first garmin watch. do you think its just bad batch or does garmin really not that reliable?
This might be a stupid question as I’m a newbie, but if the only problem is the HRM, does having a Bluetooth chest strap get around that problem considering the price difference between GARMIN and amazfit ?
@@harmansofearley yes
@Matthew Harman at that price they should invest a bit in HR sensors... I don't like wearing chest straps
I’m deciding on an amazfit ultra vs a falcon for Black Friday. What would anyone recommend at this point in the year?
The falcon has no microphone!!
Hello again, great video as usual. Just wanted to add up few things... The Garmin does not pick up day naps but body battery does so the health algorithm doesnt go wrong. Tested few times with 1-2 hours lunch naps and the body battery is getting up a bit which is awesome. Have been using Amazfit device over 2.5 years and I do agree with everything and would like do add up that I have felt isolated from the world somehow when using it. Then switched to Garmin eco system and there is a different story. So great devices with a lot of potential but they need to sort out their Ecosystem too.
Yep, Garmin's body battery indeed picks up naps as "recharging" your body battery. Unfortunately though there's still no data as to what sleep stages or any advanced analytics and I think it's also ignored by Training Readiness which is kinda weird. Thanks for watching!
@@ChaseTheSummithi, what do you mean? Don't Garmin watches tell you about deep sleep, REM or light sleep? Any of Garmin watches?
I used to have Amazfit Stratos a few years back. A great watch for the price. And only problem what I had was synchronisation with the app. It was a pain every single time. Once I lost a month of my workouts. So that's why I bought Garmin. Is the synchronisation with the ZEPP app working now okay? Thanks for really detailed review and your honest opinion. Great work!
So far so good in terms of sync!
My trex2 syncs everytime
What is the best smart watch that offers gps offline maps for hiking/biking, keeping budget in mind or budget friendly? If you could add an affiliate links, that would great
I'd probably go for an older Garmin model if you're trying to save money. Something like the Garmin Forerunner 955, or Fenix 6 would get the job done and could be found second hand or refurbished for probably $200-$300?
Curious on the comparison between t rex ultra vs the garmin instinct 2x
Any idea when it will be available in Canada ?
Have they solved the notifications in sms so that you get whole sms with smiley faces & icons instead of squares with question marks?
Amazon sells replacement bands for the T-rex line, but they apparently are a pain to actually change.
Seems like you need a special tool. I've worked in mechanical engineering for years and I've never seen a screw like what they use!
😮 whats brand is your watch in this video
As long as Garmin keeps offering the current mapping functionalities, I’ll keep use them. I often go to new places I don’t know and just create a quick route and go for a run. It’s not perfect, but it’s a great thing to have.
What Garmin do you have? Thxs
Am still waiting when a manucturer will include basic diving abilities on a smartwatch. There is Apple watch Ultra but its 2 expensive and Suunto 9 Peak Pro that measures only 10meter deep.
I love ultra procrastination food and watch
Any idea what "Membership cards" is used for? Purpose?
Not entirely sure, it looks like it scans QR codes and stores them to the watch so if you have a membership to a gym or something with a QR scanner you could use the watch instead of the card? I was expecting NFC but that's not the case.
As far as your comment about needing to be at home for wifi. I don't have an amazfit. But I update my coros apex 2 pro using the wifi Hotspot from my phone to update my watch. Not sure if that's possible on amazfit
That would work but as mentioned downloading maps takes an insane amount of time. Not sure how efficient that would be with a hotspot.
Too sad they didn't include the better HR sensor of GTR4 (a US$200,00 smartwatch), a watch released about Aug-Sep 2022.
Terrific review, good job❤
A pity for the heart rate sensor & the watch glass, otherwise get it without hesitation at this price point😢
Thank you, great review.
After 1 year, they did any major update via software, such as labels and routable maps?
I'm trying to figure out if it's worth buying T-Rex Ultra at this price. Maybe T-rex 2 is already good.
Still no routeable maps but that's not surprising to me. Garmin is still the only one doing that.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thank you. So, T-rex 2 is a good choice after all
The really need to work on their heart rate sensors! That's my main gripe with this brand.
So if the watch band breaks.....what do you do to replace it? Send the entire watch to factory for band replacement or buy a new watch?
It seems that you can remove the screws with a special tool.
T Rex is showing progress but I still would rather have a Garmin with better mapping and heart rate sensor.
Hi, when do you want to review amazfit gtr 4? I saw it got a lot of new feature than trex ultra or falcon.
I've been meaning to get around to it!
they need to come with a screen protector like tank m1 pro as my amazfit trex pro lasted 2 weeks and screen cracked with normal wear
That would be a nice tough. Though at this price point I was hoping for a sapphire lens.
such an amazing watch. but it's not available in Pakistan. I'm interested in this.
