It's based on the Alloytec / GM High Feature platform but the heads have been heavily re-engineered, to the point where most head components aren't interchangeable with other High Feature V6s. It's a nice engine but it's no Busso, for sure.
Remember an E46 M3 and 147GTA doing a traffic light grand Prix. Whilst the E46 was obviously quicker, I would take the GTA as it stole the show with the sound roaring out the back, absolutely glorious hearing in person.
Idk the S54 sounds a b s o l u t e l y amazing too, would be a tough call. And definitely not in a 147 which drives no where near as good as an E46 M3 nor is even in the same segment. One comparison in which i would absolutely go for the alfa is a 75 3.0 compared to an E30 325 or m3. I would pick the 75.
Had a 166 with a 3 litre Busso for 5 years, very reliable but it needed looking after, not a car you could miss a service or be cheap on oil with. Sold it 14 years ago, still miss it now.

Se Henry Ford fosse stato vivo, me lo sarei immaginato togliersi il cappello anche al passaggio di una 75 V6 (l’ultima trazione posteriore a montarlo assieme alle meno sensuali “sorelle” SZ/RZ).
If you have a GM 3.8 Series 2 V6 or even a 4.3 V6 and put some power into them and a proper performance exhaust on them, you could have them sound a lot like a Busso.
The engine does sound gorgeous…….but I’ll never understand the thought process that allows someone to rev a motor under zero load to the point the valves sound like they’re floating. Pure ignorant abuse.

They had only 2,5 v6 busso. Others were TS' and Lancia Delta's 2.0t for DTM. Diesels excluded

The VR6 in any displacement sounds better in my opinion but I've never driven a vehicle with this motor, only heard it on here.
Then you have never heard a busso v6 in person it is the best sounding v6 engine ever and mine revs to 7700
