  • Ever since its initial release in 1985 the Baitrunner has enjoyed enduring popularity. More than 30 years after the release of the first model, the Shimano Baitrunner is still popular around the world. Much the same, it has been a constant staple in the kiwi fishermans arsenal. There is nothing better than flicking out a big bait, switching to Baitrunner mode, and waiting in anticipation for that iconic screaming run.
We put the Baitrunner range through its paces on a recent trip up North with Matt Watson. Check out some of the insane fishing action as we tuck in close away from the wind and deploy some big baits!

Thanks mate, what size baitrunners would you recommend for reef fishing and maybe trolling? I was going to go the 12000oc but not sure if that is overkill.

Hi Daniel, thanks for your comment. It all depends on what line class you are planning to fish with and what rod the reel is going to be paired with. The 12000 size Baitrunners are usually paired with a 10-15kg rod and up to 15kg mono. So, if you need heavier line to stop those reef fish, then the 12000 size is a good option. If you are trolling for Pelagics, we'd emphasize that the line capacity is quite important, and the 12000 size has the best line capacity of the lot. Hope this helps!

Is everyone in Australia left handed or something? I just watched another baiteunner video and same side handle.

Nah just wrong perceptions. They are stuck in the belief that winding the reel is the hard job which must be done with the dominant hand. Most Aussies cannot cast normally or they change hands after casting. Ridiculous! One thing I will never accept and keep mocking them about despite living here for over a decade

@@bazkaknics6095 Most reel makers seem to think the same. I remember the days when almost everything and everyone reeled with their left hand. Now left-hand options are the minority. At least with spinners you can switch.

I mean this particular model whiz is the new one. The older ones are strong.

That sucked. My friend's baitrunner D has been working without issues and he caught a huge chaophraya just two weeks ago. That made me get one as well but the shops near my area only sells the oc version so i got that instead.
