I understand Ivor's little sigh over the fact that foreigners are made to pay higher tourist attraction admissions fee than locals but glad that he was still cool about it just like how he usually is, always in good spirits.😇
However, lots of foreign tourists seem to find this rather annoying and don't see any justified reason behind it. Hence, I would like to throw light on why this happens.
It's primarily due to fact that the ticket/entry fee for locals is intentionally subsidized because the difference is paid by the locals through the numerous taxes paid by them to the government. These taxes also include taxes for 'maintanence and renovation of the tourist attractions especially monuments'.
These monuments are of extreme cultural, historical and scientific importance and hence maintenance of these alongwith the services such as availability of water, washrooms, sign/description boards and cleanliness are also charged for.
Foreigners do not pay any other taxes specific to this purpose. This isn't an exclusive case with India but so many countries around the world. Just like how in most countries, tuition fee for citizens is significantly less compared to fee for international students because it's subsidized for them as the difference is paid by citizens through taxes. Nobody is really charging tourists more in this case. Also at quite a few locations, sometimes the entry fee may include audio tourists or guide books etc as they more than often need it due to language differences.
Other than that it's understandable that most of the world at an average costs way more than the entry fee charged in India at tourist attractions (it's atleast 10 USD or more around the world unlike India) and most foreign tourists tend to find the prices in India far cheaper because of the difference in purchasing power parity (PPP).

Even for us Indians in foreign countries, we are charged higher for everything. So foreigners shouldn’t feel otherwise when they pay higher prices in India.
I agree with this but the problem is there is no set fee for international people outside of tourist sites so people get ripped off often.

I am from jodhpur. And i am so glad u liked our city. But trust me u have only viewed a small fraction of our beautiful city. So much more gems are remaining to witness by you guys. Specially umaid bhawan palace,ghanshyam ji temple,and ofcourse the food of main jodhpur.
