How to make a Miniature Book for someone you love; handmade gift for Valentine's, Birthday, etc.

- Making miniature books is one of our favourite things to do! It's a long mindful activity you can enjoy at home. Making a mini book to show someone how much you love them, is a great Valentine's Day gift, too! Or, make it for a loved one on their birthday. They will love it and treasure it.
This little mini book is titled '20 reasons I love you', and lists all the things you love about the recipient.

This tutorial uses things you will hopefully have at home or can get easily.
You will need:
scissors, craft knife, kitchen knife with a serrated edge,
ruler, glue, binder clip, plain paper for the inside pages,
coloured paper for the cover and end-paper, and a piece of thick card.
Cut 24 pages of size 3 x 4 cm, for each mini book.
Align the pages and hold them together tightly,
using a tight binder clip.
Cut some grooves along the spine, using a serrated kitchen knife.
Do this carefully and thoroughly. Depth of grooves: roughly 0.5 mm.
Cut a piece of paper roughly 3 x 4 cm.
Apply glue thoroughly to the grooves in the spine.
Stick the paper to the spine and firmly press and remove extra glue.
Leave to dry for 30-60 minutes.
For the cover... Cut 2 pieces of the thick card for each book, each 3.1 cm by 4.2 cm. Choose paper for the book cover. Cut a piece roughly 10 by 7 cm.
Stick the 2 cards on the cover paper, leaving enough room for the spine in the middle.
Trim the edges. Apply glue to the flaps and fold and press well to stick.
You can keep the cover simple or add details to the corners and spine.
Choose end-paper to match the cover, and cut 2 pieces of 6 x 4 cm for each book. Fold in the middle and stick the end paper to the bound pages.
Apply glue on the end-paper and attach to the cover.
Decorate the cover if you wish, with stickers or art.
On the first page of the book, write '20 reasons I love you'.
Think of the person you want to gift your mini book to, and list one reason you love them, on each page.
You could write reasons like:
'You cook the yummiest food.'
'You have the sweetest smile.'
'You make me feel beautiful.'

@@SkyGoodiesCo could you please give me an advice - the mini book looks more like it's "open" than "close". Is there some ways to make it look like real book?
It still looks amazing but just in case there are ways to make it even better 😅
@@thesweetestperson Yes... sometime that can happen. Please try putting some heavy weights like heavy big books on top of the mini book and leave it for a day or two. It should close nicely then. Hope this helps! :)

Thank you so much! 😊 for the cover we reused old greeting cards… card of thickness about 300-400gsm. Covered them in patterned paper or origami paper of thickness 100-150 gsm

Thank you! 😊❤️ we have made these books with all kinds of paper including regular printing paper … so you can use any paper around 90-120 gsm weight you have at hand. Card paper won’t work as the binding may break if the paper is too thick.

Hello! You can use any paper of thickness around 100-120 gsm for the cover. Newspaper, plain paper, wrapping paper are some options.
