Judee had a hard life but everybody misinterprets her songs as hateful towards religion. She was a deeply religious person, but had a hard life and literally had to fight every day to survive. It didn't help that people took advantage of her and manipulated her throughout everything. Her music was beautiful and she definitely deserved a better life and better parents to be exact.
My own interpretation is that the major labels didn't like Judee because she talked positively about religion. She didn't sell her soul like many artists do and ended up not becoming famous because of it. Still, her music is amazing and she was such a great singer and a great guitar player. I'm glad others like me have found out about her or knew about her and kept the torch burning in her name.
Lone star light the lowlands, show up every stone So far only you can lead us all back home If they could keep me chained in Still my heart would roam To sleep enraptured Waking up captured chills me to the bone My home's in the westward direction Of my own resurrection Sunbeam be my highway, stream in on my sleep Face me towards the new day until it breaks in me Love is where I'm aiming Down way is just as steep To sleep enraptured Waking up captured isn't liberty So please lead me in the direction Of my own resurrection Last night I was dreaming spirits all could fly When midnight woke up singing morning broke inside No, I don't want taming No, don't even try To sleep enraptured Waking up captured isn't worth the try I'll die pointing in the direction Of my own resurrection Lone star light the lowlands, show up every stone So far only you can lead us all back home If they could keep me chained in Still my heart would roam To sleep enraptured Waking up captured chills me to the bone My home's in the westward direction Of my own resurrection That's the spirit It can make you strong That's the spirit It can make you want to sing along That's the spirit It hears you way down low That's the spirit It'll pick you up and let you know
She didn't have much commercial success, but Laura Nyro didn't either from a sales aspect of her albums. Laura's benefit was the publishing when others covered her songs. Both were brilliant.
Judee signed with David Geffen early 1970's. Geffen's first signing as a manager in the late 1960's was the Bronx prodigy Laura Nyro. I discovered her recently and my mind is blown. Geffen's success with Nyro was instrumental in his future massive success in the music business. See Bette Midler induct Nyro at the 2012 Rock Hall of Fame. Nyro passed from ovarian cancer in 1997 aged 49. Nyro is revered by the music industry as one of its all time best: she is considered an artists artist. See Nyro raves by Elton John, Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren, Billy Childs.
The band does detract from the overall feel but we will never know how great this would have sounded with voice and piano only.lt still breaks my heart that true happiness eluded her for large portions of her life but thankfully her legacy lives on.So many good memories.
the accompaniment is great, i don't see what's wrong with it. Any Jim o'rourke fan will agree with me i guess, sounds like Loose fur is playing along :)
@musiator How boring! If it was just her and acoustic guitar, it would not have the same uplifting drive the arrangement is going for! I guess a few nth notes are way off for you, huh? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
I think Judee Sill is wonderful but the band accompaniment here is a horrible mess. I guess this is a demo but I'd rather hear her sing this accompanied by herself on piano alone.
@@davemurray113 Nor could I. It's an amazing jam, especially considering the difficulty of keeping those multiple tempo changes into the chorus (amazing idea right there).
“I’ll die pointing in the direction of my own resurrection” 😭
here she is!
One of the best Judee songs. I will never get tired of this
Me neither, though I don't get tired of most of what she did. Like Judee, I believe in Jesus, but think she's as close to goddess as they come!
Same!!!!
her choruses and codas are always incredible
ジュディシルの名曲のひとつ。生きてもっとたくさん素晴らしい曲を残してほしかった。
More great Judee! With the greatest ones, you get the feeling that it had to come out even though their time with us is limited.
She.
Oh Judee, you're still the greatest.
この曲を聞くと何故だか涙が出そうになるのはなぜだろう

100%. If our God is a just one (and He certainly is,) Judee is a Saint in Heaven
Lone star light the lowlands, show up every stone
So far only you can lead us all back home
If they could keep me chained in
Still my heart would roam
To sleep enraptured
Waking up captured chills me to the bone
My home's in the westward direction
Of my own resurrection
Sunbeam be my highway, stream in on my sleep
Face me towards the new day until it breaks in me
Love is where I'm aiming
Down way is just as steep
To sleep enraptured
Waking up captured isn't liberty
So please lead me in the direction
Of my own resurrection
Last night I was dreaming spirits all could fly
When midnight woke up singing morning broke inside
No, I don't want taming
No, don't even try
To sleep enraptured
Waking up captured isn't worth the try
I'll die pointing in the direction
Of my own resurrection
Lone star light the lowlands, show up every stone
So far only you can lead us all back home
If they could keep me chained in
Still my heart would roam
To sleep enraptured
Waking up captured chills me to the bone
My home's in the westward direction
Of my own resurrection
That's the spirit
It can make you strong
That's the spirit
It can make you want to sing along
That's the spirit
It hears you way down low
That's the spirit
It'll pick you up and let you know
Thanks for posting the lyrics. Much appreciated.
thanks for the lyrics - what a beautiful song!
judee forever
Her voice is incredible. So inspirational.

This song makes me so sad for some reason
BASED
Brilliant!!!
FUCK! who is this amazing artist I never hear about in music documentaries and discovered on Democracy Now? she is epic!
what an amazing song!
She reminds me of Joni Mitchell, phase "Blue"/"For the Roses"
The band does detract from the overall feel but we will never know how great this would have sounded with voice and piano only.lt still breaks my heart that true happiness eluded her for large portions of her life but thankfully her legacy lives on.So many good memories.
Agree, just Judee and a grand piano would be best.
she loved gospel and harmonies
while i don't disagree the band is incredible on this version and the drumming is absolutely perfect feel wise which is so hard with the tempo changes
This song played by clammbon who is japanese BAND. Please hear it by all means.
the accompaniment is great, i don't see what's wrong with it. Any Jim o'rourke fan will agree with me i guess, sounds like Loose fur is playing along :)
素敵
Taken off Spotify 😢 bring it back guys!!
impressive!
Clammbon!

クラムボンで知りました。
@taildragger51 Go out ,suffer and see if you become a genius. Easy, isn't it?
impossible? Haven't you heard of mail order?
If things had turned out a little different, perhaps she would've given Joni a run for her money. For a while, at least.

love you polyzoides

I couldn't disagree more.
I think the problem is actually that her voice is mixed so low; I don't know why.The band is pretty tight.

Its a bit messy
you are a piece of shit
