Already getting reports of emails from scammers with requests to use their cloaked link to update your information. To be safe, I WOULD NOT click the link in any of these emails. Instead, go directly to the www.ssa.gov/ site. You can see the official SSA press release here www.ssa.gov/news/press/releases/2024/#7-2024-1
Also, for those saying the SSA never sends emails, see this link that says, "Social Security employees do contact the public by telephone, mail, or email for business purposes. We may send you an email after a discussion that was either in person, over the phone, or after completion of an online action. We also send informational emails about our online services." faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-10019

Yeah, the SSA opened up the flood gates to allow their most vulnerable to be scammed due to this transition by sending emails WITH LINKS - instead of just telling them to go to www.ssa.gov/announce or whatever and read about what they need to do. #dummies

Actually if you go into your social security account settings and select contact by email / US mail you will get both a letter and an email. But never click on links in emails, go directly to the social security website to sign in. Also creating a real ID account is a little convoluted, but a lot of agencies, both state and federal, use the real ID. 3:02

Same! I've not gotten the email yet, but was "prompted" to setup the new login the other day when logging in. I'd been seeing on the site that it was mandatory at some point. Took care of it. You'd think SSA would be the ideal place to start a new trend. When sending emails, never include links - PERIOD. Just convey the necessary information and explain how to take whatever action is being communicated on THE website. At the same time, make it clear that going forward you'll never get an email from SSA that has clickable links - and if they get one, they should assume it's fraudulent. It would take time to become the norm, but companies should start doing that.

They seem to want you to have a phone number that's handled by a major carrier. I think that's so they can track you in the future by location.

My Credit Union taught me to NEVER respond directly to any emails. Log in to the home website that you already know and then log in.
I have also been known to actually call and verify if the email is legitimate or not.

NEVER click on a link in an email except when the email is an expected response to an action you took seconds earlier.
Instead... go manually to the website and find the desired action.
    Simple and secure.
And if the agency or business don't make it easy to do so... call them on the phone or go in person to do what you need. Do not expose yourself to hackers.

I'd already set up a login.gov account to get into the VA system. Since I used to do a little system admin for some websites, databases, etc. this seems like a decent solution for the US fed gov stuff.

Agree that everyone should have mySSA account to track their Social Security even if they aren’t yet eligible to receive benefits. The online account is notifying people they need to change to the new login protocol.

We may send you an email after a discussion that was either in person, over the phone, or after completion of an online action. We also send informational emails about our online services." faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-10019

Absolutely ignore any email from SSA. If the SSA needs to contact you, they will send an actual letter, in an envelope, through the postal system. I don't know who this guy is, but he is setting you up to be scammed. I have DELETED his channel from my recommendations, and suggest you do the same.
