Some more ways to keep your parrot quiet:
== Tell them a monster is just outside the house and hunker down, avoiding the windows.
== Show them a poll where their favorite political candidate has fallen behind (though this may backfire with some birds).
== Get them a lucrative job making those weird ASMR videos.
== Have them read the terms of your lease or your local noise ordinance, or make them answer the phone when a neighbor calls to complain.
== Show them a video where Merlin is talking. At least that works for me..

😂✊🏾 We tend to use “ballerina’s need their beauty rest” or “omg there’s a new Tupac sighting on CZcams, wanna see?” Then they tend to chillax. Also he has an uncanny way of knowing if a Tupac sighting might be fake or might be worth looking more into. 🤷🏾‍♂️ No clue how.
Also we tend to do their training where they get treats, so she’s nice and full and tired after her dance lesson and then usually settles down. So a foraging or training activity before you need them to be calm helps.
These are some good tips Marlene! We also are big advocates for a routine bedtime. Our birds are in bed by no later than 9:30p, but usually earlier so they have a while to settle in.

    • @tupecktherappingparrot4345
      @tupecktherappingparrot4345 Před 4 lety +4

Also adding: make birdie playlists! Whatev music or youtubers and stuff your bird loves (we avoid vids where someone’s bird might be overly excited that day, cuz monkey see monkey do, we save those for another time). Ours loves watching ballet classes, drag shows, & mermaid stuff (& just marine creatures tend to be relaxing for birds! Put on fish footage! It works!) so each am they get an am educational playlist while momager gets things done, so they are engaged in an activity they enjoy and learning. Children’s songs of counting and colors, language lessons, this stuff keeps them thinking & they tend to enjoy it but also cuz they have to watch it, acts like Saturday am cartoons for kids (the folks wanna sleep in or get stuff done & the kids will happily watch cartoons for a while in the am). You gotta think like a parent of a toddler!

Thank you for this video Marlene! To add to this, I've discovered that clicker training helps immensely if your bird is very loud. Make sure your bird knows that a click means a treat is coming. When your bird is quiet for a few minutes, click, treat, and praise them by telling them they are a good quiet bird. I've done this training while I'm in the same room and in different rooms. Now he's quiet for hours and content with playing with toys and understands that I will let him out of his cage everyday, he just doesn't know when. I'm happy being in quarantine gave me a lot of time to instill good behaviors in my quaker!

Im so glad to hear you speak about it being ok with allowing some birds to have a spot where they "nest" if it's not causing problems for them or those around them. My conure has a spot that is "his" under a cabinet where he has a few toys that he protects. It fills a natural instinct for him and I believe keeps him from frustration. I agree that we need to allow them to be who they are as long as it is safe.

Hi, Marlene, Merlin, Brando!!! This was a great video explaining how to interact with your bird if he or she gets too loud! Thank you for posting this and I watched it twice to make sure I didn't miss anything. When birds get too loud, That usually means they want something and might feel ignored. I Always check on my bird and see if everything is OK. I try to figure out why he might be so loud. I do this if I forget to do a usual engaging thing I usually do with my bird. I will think, "What did I forget to do today with you that I always do with my precious little friend." My cockatiel, Beenie and I are BFF's!!! I always sit on the bed with him and pet his head and around his beak and do little scratches where he can't reach. I also give him a Nutriberry in the AM and Late Afternoon! I can't forget that. I let Beenie generally hang out on my shoulder, arm and/or my desk too. I need to make sure and clean Beenie's cage every few days or less. He's use to a clean cage and give him fresh water when it's dirty or at least twice a day. We chill together often and he keeps me feeling better :))) Beenie is good for my health :) Love, big hugs, birdie kisses, Barb, Beenie, Baby spirit :))) PS. I could hear Merlin talking but could not understand what he was saying :) He's a cutie and Brando is of course!!!

That was an incredibly interesting and helpful video. Nine-year old Mr. Max the Cockatoo, aka Mr. Man, and I have settled into a sync-style life that you explained since he came to live with us in November. I try to keep down on his sunflower seeds but think I'll give him less and see how it goes; he's a plucker, chest and legs. We went through the yelling-separation syndrome and threatening to give him a squirt of water is enough for him to stop most of the time now. It was the only thing that worked. He actually laughed at times thinking it funny, but I took away some privileges that he didn't want to forfeit and now he understands that yelling really isn't that funny. It appears he got little attention wherever his previous home was but is not aggressive and is talking more and learning many words. He calls for the dogs to come into the house with my same intonations and likes to listen to Pink Floyd. He hums and sings to the music. He's a special guys and with love and attention is blossoming into a great member of the family... Thanks for your assistance. 💫

I had an argument with a group of bird lovers on Facebook this week. I’ll no longer go to that group because they jeered at n]me when I said my birds, sun conures were quiet. I live in a tiny apt & I’ve never had a neighbor complain. I go places & have to turn around & go back because my bird was on my shoulder & had been there quiet for hours & id forgotten she’d been there. I’ve taken Paris shopping in walmart several times (put colorful things in the basket beside her & no one will notice until you check out.
Thank you for letting me know I’m not insane. I’m just in tune with my birds

Great video and what a treat to see Merlin!
Had an idea for a video, maybe the birds hanging out in the aviary? Would love to see what they get up to outdoors. Just a thought! 🕊🥰

My birds were never screamers. I also would get comments about them being quiet. I ALWAYS cooked EVERYTHING with them in mind also. Always providing them enough. I would always put food in their bowls 1st and let them start eating because they would only est from my plate if I brought both howl n plate in at same time. After they ate from their bowls they could come to table with me. They were also always eating on their stands right next to the table w us. They were included in my daily life. They went everywhere I went if they could. I even would take them to the schools around me for demos on captive parrots to try to help both sides of the bird population, captive and wild, and to educate on both sides of the topic. That is also a much needed globally. I appreciate when you do these educational programs. It really does help spread the education. Thank you Marlene.

My lovebird is hormonal rn, so when he gets too shouty, I put together a foraging box or bowl with food hidden among beads or other toys for him to dig through (he REALLY likes beads and will bring them to you) and it enriches him, keeps his mind busy, uses up excess energy, and redirects him.

Hey Marlene I’m new to the bird community and just recently got a Quaker she/or he is the most beautiful and sweetest bird I’ve ever been around I had wanted a bird for years and I never was really in the position to have/take care of a bird but about three weeks ago my mom surprised me with my dream bird for my graduation present (since all senior events got canceled and even the most important event which was graduation ) but yeah I was super happy but when I got her I seen all she was eating was generic bird food it has all types of artificial coloring and I just think if I wouldn’t put that in my own body neither should my bird. So I was looking to change her food to the one you have on your website but you have so much product I honestly have no idea where to start if you could recommend was new food I should start giving her I’d really appreciate it! Also I don’t only give her that we try and introduce her to different fruits and veggies she never really had a diet like that before so it’s still a working progress 😂

What brand of outdoor aviary would you recommend for a green cheek conure? Do you think you could do a video about how to clean an aviary? I've never had one before and I've been looking into getting one this summer and it seems like it might be something that's hard to keep clean especially in a muddy state like Michigan.

I read in a norwegian newsoaper (where I live) that ppl buy birds and orher pets rn because of quarantine, I really hope they wont be bored with the bird and neglect it after, it should be harder to get pets imo, too many buy on impulse and it saddens me. On a happier note I have decided I want a bird again after 10 yrs of mourning my two cockatiels Ariel and Pedro ❤️❤️ and my übertame budgie aged over 16 yrs that literally died in my hands (rip Happy, you did your name justice by far ❤️) But first I want to get s nice sleeping cage like you and make our home bird proof I am not in a rush but I want everything to be set, and then look for a rescue ❤️
