1. Maybe they didn't know the bus controls and how it worked. 2. If they did try to take control, then Muni would blame them when it's over. They would say you are untrained and it's your fault the bus crashed into a wall or something So unless you're 100% sure you know what you're doing, it's best to leave the controls alone.
this happened several years back, I was at the top of the hill end of the stop at what use to be a mortorcycle dealership, the muni bus stopped, the driver got out but forgot to set the parking brakes, the bus then ran over several new motorcycles and ended up going backwards down Mission street and ended up crashing into an Insurance business down the hill several blocks away. no one got injured.
So I suppose this soon-to-be ex-Muni driver will now apply at the south bays VTA mass transit company? The driver appeared distraught. Ending a career can do that to a person.
It is totally safe, you clown. So much so, that rare incidents like these are publicized because of how uncommon they are. Meanwhile nearly 120 people are killed every day in car accidents across the country. These accidents are so frequent that no one gives them a second thought.

As a retired city bus driver, I frequently have nightmares of this scenario happening to me, and then I wake up…relieved 😅

IF The driver is a new hire and is on probation, yes. If not, probably suspension and retraining
