    I for one am glad that ABBA got into the rock and roll hall of fame! They had a special sound...and were a big part of the 70's!

    These guys have set the Bar so high that in Sweden it's hard to live up to their legacy. Impossible more like it but they did kick the door open for Ace Of Base, and Roxette. In Sweden Mattman & Robin are next To Xenomania are the two Biggest Producers in Europe as far as I know.

    For those asking if ABBA fits the mold of Rock, make yourselves a favor and watch the following: Eagle (guitar riff at the end), Watch Out, Rock Me, So Long, Hole in your Soul (live in Wembley), Get on the Carousel, Hey Hey Helen, Summernight City (1981 version) and On and On and On (81 version too), King Kong Song, or Does Your Mother Know. These people were playing rock in their live performances and were playing the Pop face to the mainstream audiences. Their singles were the only thing one could call “Pop”

      +CVM I found ABBA corny for a long time. I was 7 years old in 1980 when ABBAs best album with "Super trouper " and the incredible "The winner takes it all" came. 1980 was the year John Lennon was murdered as you know. John said in 1979 that ABBA was the best musical phenomenon he seen in years in an interview. Bjorn and Benny took the death of John Lennon very hard. Anyway in any encyclopedia if you look at the Beatles and ABBA. They are regarded as 2 of the most successful bands ever. Beatles are nr 1 of course. In Guinness book of world records it says "Since Beatles broke up , ABBA took over as the most successful band ". I find it strange that the Beach Boys and the Beatles where inducted in 1988 but ABBA had to wait until 2010?

      Striker Orwell Perhaps their induction was frowned upon because their “Rock” music wasn’t pushed in the US as much as it was in Australia or London. Thanks for the interesting details!

      +CVM As an amateur musician who formed a Beatles and Rolling Stones cover with my army mates. We played in Liverpool as well. Our bass player suggested we should play a rock song of ABBA called On and On and On. It became our favorite song among our Beatles loving "fans". Chris the drummer, Carl the lead guitarist and Marc the bass players sadly passed away in Afghanistan in 2005 to 2006.

      +CVM Yeas I wish we could have left the army to just go on and touring. You might find this crazy but when I took my Guitar and played and sang ABBA and Beatles songs I could feel a "presence" a warm sensation like a warm hug from a dear friend? I hope they where with me in spirit somehow? It sure felt like I could feel the three of them in the room. They where my best and dearest friends.

    Bee Gees are among the greatest ever. With a great sense of humor..which was not appropriate in this occasion. When you honour the phenomenon ABBA - the greatest musical act since The Beatles, you should be serious, and act professional. Because it is an ABBA' event, not a Bee Gees' one.

    I guess they deserve to get in based on sheer numbers but ahead of Deep Purple, Moody Blues, ELO ( who they owe a lot to) and many others. They are pop, not rock but whatever. The Hall Of Fame is too watered down, they should have inductions every five years to give it more weight.

    • @JulioLeonFandinho
      @JulioLeonFandinho Před 8 lety +3

      they so many pure rock and roll songs that it's well deserve for them to be amongst the bands you mentioned, wich by the way doesn't have much in common with each other...
      and i have to say that Abba owes much more to The Beach Boys or T.Rex than to the ELO

    This is just New York elitist jerks picking their friends (Like ABBA) and telling us ONCE AGAIN how we should feel. Rock fans, don't by this. The 'Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame' is stupid regardless of who they induct. Music is art. Art is opinion. What if a, 'Painters Hall Of Fame' opened and they decided which painters are better than others. That's ridiculous. You may like modern art, I may like classical painters. Just like I may think Led Zepplin is best and you may not. Even then the hall has NO integrity. Steve Miller rightfully insulted them for their mean process of getting in after he got inducted. Then inducters said they, 'Regreted letting him in'. If it was about the music, the art, what he said shouldn't matter. It's about his music, it should be. But no, of course not. If we quit giving the Hall atention, we can stop it. If it was a 'Museum' it would be different. But they call it a, 'hall of fame' and induct people to keep the lights on. And to think people thought Cleveland Municipal was the mistake by the lake.
