I think that the main problem with Hazbin Hotel is that its a passion project that Vivzie had big plans for, but the plans were almost too big and the story she had been creating kinda slipped through the cracks. She got big broadway actors to play the characters and had big wonderful numbers, but something tells me when she heard she was only getting 8 episodes for the season, she ended having to pick and choose what scenes she had been planning in her head and probably had pictured for a long time had to be scrapped. Which sucks, especially since she created all of this background lore for the characters that we hardly get to see.

I agree. It highlights the ugly side of indie passion projects which is that ultimately, the longer an idea sits in your mind without actively being worked on the easier it is to have expanding that universe as just a hobby for when your mind wanders, leading to it getting... bloated. The universe Vivziepop created, while fantastic and full of interesting ideas, cannot be explored in a satisfactory way unless they managed to get like 20+ seasons of 10+ episodes each.
Having so many characters somewhat works for a show like Helluva Boss because it's episodic, the core cast is only 6(?) characters and others come and go, but in a show like Hazbin where each character is expected to be a player in the plot going forward in some way for at least the season if not the whole series it gets messy fast if you don't limit it hard.

It wasn't a legal reason why the original voice actors were replaced. BlackGryph0n has said that Vivian would constantly talk about wanting to hire Broadway celebrities to replace them and finally got the chance after it was picked up by A24. I believe they even made a statement themselves about this too. (Saying there weren't any contracts, legal problems, etc.) None of the original voice actors were invited to the show's premiere either according to a post Gryph0n has made. It's easy to tell he's upset about it since people have seen him liking posts criticizing Viv for her treatment of employees but can't be vocal about it because. To which - fair, it’s her show and re-casts happened. But it’s still a bummer knowing it start out as a indie project, but non of the indie VA tagged along…

It definitely feels really weird that vox are velvet are two somewhat comedic (or at least not taken super seriously) villains and then theres valentino, who is a character who has done such serious, detestable things. Then they want to be able to treat him with the same lighthearted silly treatment as the other two, like with the final episode, and its just ... Such a bad contrast. I like the other two Vs so much and its genuinely hard to because theres a major difference between them and valentino and even having Vox and Velvet be so close to someone like him leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I wish they either made all of them lighthearted or taken them all seriously, because it does not work the way it is imo.

i mean, it does make sense from one angle. Valentino is the villain to Angel Dust, one of our sympathetic PoV Characters.
The other two... well, Vox has his rivalry with Alastor, but the only time we see the two interact, Vox gets trounced by Al, adn even with his ppularity, Alastor so far isn't really a SYMPATHETIC character.
We don't see them land any (effective) hit against characters we are to consider sympathetic. IMagine Velvet pulling the stuff with her models with, say, Charlie, or Niffty (and, for a moment, ignore their power/unhinged nature). Or, worse, the whole "I can'tw ait until that b... pulls herself back together" about the model that Valentino tore apart.
They also ENABLE Valentino, so there is that.

  • @violetpencil9614

Honestly, a lot of your criticisms are incredibly valid. I really hate that Vizipop is making all of her pilot canon. Despite the fact, there are major character, redesign, and re-cast things during both pilots. I really do feel like if the pilot is important then it should be the first episode. And the pacing is incredibly shit but I don’t blame Vizipop for that. I’m sure that they consider her a very experimental writer and creator, so they didn’t wanna give her too many episodes because that’s expensive especially with how detailed her characters are. She wants to tell the story she wants to tell she unfortunately needs to get through it as quickly as possible. However, my main criticism of the points you’re trying to make is about the common misunderstanding of the song loser baby and Valentino.
I understand why this keeps being done but it’s becoming more and more frustrating. Husk is not comparing his trauma to Angels directly. What he’s trying to say is Angel doesn’t need to feel alone in his torment because even if they’re not exactly the same in their problems, there are people who can relate to him and are willing to listen. If you look at the motivation of Husk throughout the entire episode, you realize that all he wants is for Angel to stop wearing this annoying mask and be his true self and be emotionally honest. He’s calling him a whiny bitch for lashing out instead of just opening up about his feelings. He acknowledges that it’s hard, but you can’t just keep living like this and you actively have to try. And this isn’t completely the best message. There is good intention behind it, but I think it’s totally can see Husk wouldn’t be capable of doing it the soft and gentle way it needs to be done. Now onto Valentino do think it’s weird that Vizipop is trying to make them the main focus of their own series. The only way that would work is if they are the protagonist, but there are still the villains and the end of the show and with them suffering because they’re all terrible people. And I think that’s the point that a lot of people are not understanding you’re not supposed to like Valentino at all. He’s supposed to feel gross and slimy even his coworkers feel that way about him in fact, each of his coworkers hate each other and hate everyone but themselves they’re just working together because it’s convenient. They’re like those groups of boys that once you remove their common goal, they would literally murder each other. They are villains, you are not supposed to like them. You’re supposed to like them in the Disney villain way not in the funny goofy little guy way. Which I think is Vizipop’s fault because the way she treats these characters. Everyone feels like a funny little guy.

    • @violetpencil9614
      @violetpencil9614 Před 4 měsíci +11

58:51 I don’t wanna like trauma, dump or anything but I just think the idea of people getting upset that there’s merch about a villain who is a very real type of monster in real life is a little silly me I mean Disney’s been doing that for years. Mother Gothal has merch, and she is literally the embodiment of an abusive mother figure. Like she literally reflects a relationship I had with my family and do I feel terrible every time she’s on scream yeah but I know that that’s what she’s supposed to make me feel and she’s supposed to also be campy and fun. Again, I feel like this is Viziepops fault because she’s not making it clear that you’re not supposed to like them you’re supposed to like to hate them. Honestly, I think all the other beast should be displayed as equally as terrible so it’s more clear and they’re not giving him more flattering light. She can’t have one serious of bad guy threeo be pretty much the main reason why the hell should exist in this universe because of people like that and then the rest be very like Tumblr sexy man.

So yeah, I'm in full agreement that Sir Pentious deserved a better death scene and I casually just threw out a potential death rewrite in the live chat near the end and it caught the attention of, like, at least 2 people and that's good enough for me to elaborate here.
The way I envision that scene is that Adam instead damages his ship before the death ray can be blasted, causing it to plummet. In Sir Pentious' last moments, he tries to grab a hold of as many of his egg minions as he can to cushion their fall since they're so much more fragile than him. Then the group sees the ship explode as it hits the ground. If you want extra confirmation, instead of them looking at the "happy first week" banner, the group goes to check either during or after the battle and Pentious is fuckin dead. Just straight up a whole corpse. Even harsher bonus: despite his attempts, his minions(except for Frank he was still chillin with Angel Dust) still died from the impact.
The only downside/plothole to this is the inconsistency of him surviving getting his shit kicked in by Alastor in ep 2, only to die from this explosion, but maybe an alternative could be that one of the angels got to him while he was weak from the impact or something. Either way, I just think his death could've been 10x more impactful and devastating with just a few more seconds of screentime given to it.

Eh, slightly disagree about Heavens, they *do* give them some nuance, just... the strict minimum. Emily is portrayed as straight-up nice, St Peter doesn't seem to have anything unpleasant about him, and while Sera *technically* is a villain and acting cowardly/selfish, you at least get the impression she's doing because she thinks it's the only way (unlike Adam and Lute who straight are dicks). In my opinion the real issue is that we get too little characters from them; had we been given a bigger variety of Angels with different personnalities like they did with Hell, the nuance would have felt clearer. They could have made a whole countil of Archangels with each their own personnalities like they did with the Seven Deadly Sins in Helluvaboss. Instead we only get two major Angel leader, one good, one bad plus Adam and Exorcists, and the other Angels are kinda.... just there.

my view on it, also as a victim myself, was less of husk downplaying angel's issues n struggles by relating it to his own- & more of showing him that others also are stuck in what seems to be "hopeless" situations, so he doesn't feel alone + isolated in his situation. as for the part where he calls the 2 of them losers, i liked this a lot actually! mostly because it wasn't saying "you just need to get better to be better" like most media does, but it was saying that to START being better, you gotta embrace all parts of you as they are to heal- even the traumatized, hurt, self destructive, & flawed parts. own it! don't define yourself from sole parts, traumas, or experiences- learn to love every part of you that hasn't gotten much love yet. it laid out a much less "idolizing" goal for angeldust to start out with.
i am also an addict as well, to add onto this [a recovering one] & being told that there's just a "better" part of you that'll show once you're sober, & that you'll do a full 180 by doing so is... frustrating. just my personal view, but that message sends the wrong kind of goal to me. you're still YOU when you're sober, albeit a more grounded version, but still you. that message completely ignores that, & that possibility.
i like "loser baby" because it sends the message that YES there are parts of you that are hurting, that are difficult to handle in a difficult situation, that can be flawed due to addiction & trauma that skewed a healthy view of the world, but if you give those pieces of you equal positive treatment- no defining, or leaning into one thing because you THINK it's who you need to be- even uplifting those pieces, then you start the path to healing.
it's difficult to reach a 'better' version of yourself when you don't have much of an idea of what that looks like.
to get an idea of that, you should start putting yourself back together first, whole, so you can get the full picture of who you are before you start pin pointing what could be improved on & healed.
"it's time to lose your self-loathin'. excuse yourself, let hope in baby. play your card, *be who you are.*"
that's just my ridiculously long analysis n takeaway from it though, feel free to agree to disagree! every POV i see has good merit & arguments to it. just thought i'd throw my hat in the ring about this song in specific

One thing that I’m really curious about is Eve. She was only mentioned in the finale and made a tiny debut in the opening of episode one, so I’m curious of whether she would appear in S2 or not. If so, would she be like the complete opposite of Adam, would she be the same as him, are they even still together, etc? Also, another thing I’d like to mention is what kind of personality she would have! Is she kind, motherly, have major flaws, cruel, or any other kind of characteristics! She’s the most vague character, along with Lilith but that’s my opinion, that we ever know and it really leaves room for fans to depict her character and create some headcanons for her as well.
Also, I love your videos! You’re awesome, btw, and I’m going to be extremely shock if you were to read this comment XD

Humanity seems incredibly flawed in this show so I’m betting(if they show her at all) that she’ll be exactly like Adam, but the woman version. So instead all the toxic male traits in society, she will have a bunch of toxic female traits.

@@leannezezeski-sass2773 That could be true, but I also think that there could be a chance that Eve could represent some sort of positive and healthy outlook in humanity to balance Adam out with his toxicity. She could represent the healthier side of humanity where everyone is kind to one another, while Adam could represent the toxic side of humanity where no one could be loyal to anyone but themselves and any other crueler aspect in people. Again, we’re not entirely sure what Eve is truly like, but that leaves room for the fans to create their own takes on her!

@@leannezezeski-sass2773 So sorry for bothering again, I just have so many theories and ideas for Eve! In the first episode’s opening, the story mentions how Eve was eager to receive the ‘Fruit of Knowledge’ from Lucifer, which could represent her naïvety for she was just barely created to become Adam’s second wife and doesn’t know much about her home yet. However, just as we all know it, it had dire consequences for it created Hell and both her and her husband were kicked out of Eden once they became self aware. Now living in a path of misery, Eve could’ve chose to face it with a smile or a frown when she was human, which could also affect her personality even during the afterlife. Another thing that I’ve noticed is seeing how Adam doesn’t really mentions her at all whenever on screen and instead mentions, if I remember correctly, other women, so we’re not even sure how their are like now or how Eve would react when she gets word about his death. Another thing that we know so far is her appearance. I know it’s just a silhouette for the storybook, but it at least gives some ideas of what she might look like and how long her hair could be, but that’s just a theory, A FILM’S THEORY! Alright, I’ll take my leave now-

I think that Loser, Baby works for me for the same reason I Am a Girl Like You works for me in Barbie in the Princess and the Pauper. Hear me out.
You’d see Annalise sing about her life as a princess and being forced to marry someone she doesn’t love VS Erika as an indentured servant having to pay off debt her parents racked up for her in order to feed her.
Like, why do these two get the “I’m just like you” treatment? Because they’re both somewhere they don’t need to be and forced to do something they don’t want to do. Even though their lives come with their own problems and expectations (learned firsthand through the course of the film), they find camaraderie through them having to get through things they don’t like.

You know Vox isn’t good, right? Just because we see Val doing most of the abusing doesn’t mean Vox isn’t helping. Vox has cameras everywhere where he can see all of this abuse on probably all Vees’ workers and I doubt he doesn’t indulge in it too. He helps sell the drugs and cameras that can hurt people too. Everyone knows a good villain is supposed to make you want to hate and love them at the same time. Just because someone likes a villain that does bad things doesn’t mean they condone/want to do that behavior. That’s why there is merch on the guy. Also there was a warning by showing the rate change on Amazon. Episode 3 had 16+ and as soon as I started episode 4 it changed to 18+.
And I think since Viv has been sitting on this story so long that she’s afraid that her story won’t be told because the industry is canning shows left and right (even if they are popular and especially if they are lgbt+). I’m definitely in the camp of it was pace way too fast (which I felt like could effect the writing) but since I’m aware of the industry thoughts on animation (and making AI stuff to make it quicker and cheaper) I’m a little lenient on show. Maybe if it had stayed an indie I could expand the world better, but unfortunately the world runs on money and right now the money is with the big dogs :(

Apparently they knew they were getting a season 2 so i really don't know what happened with the writing since the structure (or lack of structure) is all over the place. I think the show is pretty enjoyable but there are just a lot of issues i can't ignore, like how they really fumbled the bag with the themes. I've heard criticisms of Hazbin that says that "the show is no longer about the hotel!" But i'm going to defend Viv's vision for a bit but i believe Viv always wanted to explore what the hotel REPRESENTS, which is that of salvation and redemption.
That being said, they didn't really use those themes, like at all.
Like i don't recall them ever challenging Charlie's idea that these basic "bonding exercises" will change these sinners who are in literal HELL and redeem them, it's only when Vaggie takes charge when Charlie thinks that they should stop. But that's not because Charlie realises that maybe these kindergarten-level bonding exercises won't help redeem these adults in HELL and that being a good person is about consistent self-reflection, consistent good actions and taking accountability for when you DO mess up. No! It's because she thinks Vaggie's making it "too extreme" (which to be fair she was, throwing people off of bulidings isn't helpful either) but there's no realisation or epiphany for her!

Honestly, i wish we had had one episode of Charlie sitting Angel, ALastor, Niffty, Husk and Sir Pentious down and having alll of them share what they did in life, who they were (real name etc.) and hwo they died, what they'd been up to in Hell since then , even if it was known already. Val is a character you hate with a fucking passion, and that's on purpose, a spin-off with Val would probably be a good show to watch if you like the feeling of wanting to punch somebody in the face a dozen times, and he'd probably be a semi-antagonist, because he already butts heads with the other Vs a fucking ton.

One thing with how the show handles SA is just it simultaneously tries to make Valentino a fun villain outside the relationship and an absolute monster in it. Neither are really that great to me. It is very possible to write an abusive character who can be sympathetic in many regards, which I prefer because it shows how it can be much harder to leave an abusive partner who does legitimately depend on the victim. But Valentino isn't that. He's like a My Little Pony side villain who is also a monstrously abusive partner. To make abusive characters hard to hate, you need to give them deeply sympathetic qualities that give emotional and psychological context to that abuse, not necessarily to excuse it, but to make it possible to see how this person could have been a decent person and why they currently aren't.
But I do also agree that how it was written is just a byproduct of a trend of bad writing habits throughout the show. I could see why, from a structural standpoint, you wouldn't want to introduce a new character to be abusive towards Angel in one episode and would just use an existing character with already established proximity to him. Like a lot of stuff, it is ultimately just a result of rushed and not well thought-out writing, but it just feels particularly bad in conjunction with the subject matter

    • @kfphunter1315
      @kfphunter1315 Před měsícem

It just fits Valentino's character, the show doesn't try to make him likeable. It would be strange if he simply remained silent, his behavior is simply a characterization, nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't make the abusive situation any less serious.

    • @brasteryakintosh9418
      @brasteryakintosh9418 Před měsícem

@kfphunter1315 Whether or not it makes sense for his character is beside the point. The point is that when it comes to something like SA, you can't have it be done by a silver age comic or classic Disney movie villain. You can have Cruella want to kill puppies for her own personal fur coats because it's so outlandishly evil that it isn't even real and the vast majority of people would see it as obviously bad, so there's no harm in having fun with a villain like that. SA of queer sex workers is actually extremely real and in the real world, it's really not widely seen as bad and in fact victim blaming is incredibly rampant in those cases. So having a cartoony and fun villain do that heavily trivializes the issue and severely limits either one's ability to take his heinous actions seriously or their ability to enjoy him as a campy villain. Having a different character SA Angel under Valentino's watch at least puts some distance between the subject matter and Valentino's intended read, which is far more digestible, because there's deniability or moral apathy to fall back on

Vivz has stated the HH pilot is cannon and the first episode takes place directly afterwards in a week. I find that funny given HB had to remove its pilot since it was causing issues, due to Vivz saying that's obviously not cannon due to being a pilot. So a problem there is the team expecting you to already be a fan with no further explanation of who the characters are in the first episode.
My main issue with HH is everyone's problem: the pacing. Just way too much happen way too fast. Carmilla killed a angel, but we just met her. So why care? Vaggie wasn't a sinner. Only brought up in one scene than moved over. Angel gets better, off screen. Just waaaaaaaasay to much being rushed through for the finish line.
Naturally the animation and songs are the selling point. And that's what kept me invested. Because that's there the strength lies. For that, Vivz should be proud.
So end of the day, I just feel Vivz bit off way more than she could handle. She wanted to deliver so much since it's been in the works for like five years (longer on her end) and had to sacrifice a lot for that. But I feel she just can't abandon certain ideas as she really wants to show them, but just throws them in scenes they don't belong. It's weird too since Vivz kinda recons herself a lot.
She says Lucifer and Lilith are a loving couple. But, their separated. She said Cherri was Australian who lost her accent, just to give it back. Says Vaggie is a sinner from 2014, just to completly change that. Yes, I know Vivz said the old wiki lore isn't cannon and shouldn't be expected BUT she also answers these questions on her Patreon Q&A. It's like punishing us for being fans and asking questions.

This relationship does a decent job of portraying the power dynamic that can exists in these relationships as well as going into some of the complexities of why people don’t just up and leave. The fact that Valentino doesn’t necessarily immediately face consequences for his actions is representative of the real world where we often see abusers not face real consequences for their actions, just look at the power and reason behind the metoo movement. This should make all of us uncomfortable, but because it reflects reality not necessarily for how it is portrayed on a cartoon.

I have an idea for Adam, I want your opinion:
Okay, Adam is suppose to display "Heaven isn't as great as it sounds" but the show never brought up how much he was screwed over, not just with Lilith and Eve, but Cain and Abel, and maybe the extermination had a point. I mean, Hell is full of horrible people who deserve to be killed. The show doesn't try to look at things from multiple perspectives; Charlie has to be right, the sinner should be redeemed, but it never asks if they deserve to be redeemed, it talks about the lives of the sinners when they were alive. I think Adam would work better if he had a point, gung ho for killing Demons, but not because he's sadistic, I mean that could be part of it, but also because he thinks what he's doing is righteous, maybe a foil to Charlie. If you are going to keep the vulgar behavior, maybe save it for the sinners and Charlie, and when he's in Heaven, he's respectful and nice to everyone there. I have this speech in mind, in my HH, he says it in the season 2 finale (Season 1 is reserved to the Vs and Lucifer, partially, (that's another can of worms) and Season 2 explores Heaven.)
(Adam is sitting by himself, his helmet off, mentally preparing himself. Lute walks up to him.)
    Lute: You ready, sir.
Adam: As ready as I'll ever be.
Lute: I don't like this, sir, it's too dangerous.
Adam: It needs to be done. I can trust you to take care of things, right? (Lute is silent) Right?
    Lute: Yes, Adam.
    (Adam hugs Lute.)
Adam: I don't know if I say this enough, but... I'm glad to have you by my side.
(Lute hugs him back. Adam leaves, presenting himself to the army of Exortcists. He materiallizes a microphone with holy energy.)
Adam: Ladies, exorcists, you all know what today is, Extermination Day (They cheer), the day where we impart our righteous fury on that ruined plane!!! (They cheer) But this is a special case, before we destroy every Demon on sight, we are to destroy (he makes the hotel appear with Charlie) this hotel!!! (They boo it.) This hotel stands as the antithesis of what Heaven stands for, the resting place for the righteous and the just!!! Do you think these sinners deserve to be in Heaven?!!!
    Exorcists: NO!!!!
Adam: Well this Princess does, she thinks that these sinners should have a second chance to be better people, do you agree with that?!!!!
    Exorcists: NO!!!!
Adam: They had their chance on Earth!!! They earned their damnation, they earned their eternal torment, they earned their second death by our BLADES!!!! (They cheer while holding up their weapons.) We will kill every Demon that resides in that forsaken place, we will tear that building apart brick by brick, we will burn it to ashes in holy fire, are you with me?!!!!
    Exorcists: YES!!!!
Adam: THEN, (he puts on the Helmet) LET'S RAZE HELL!!!!!
(He opens the portal and everyone goes in.)
I have other ideas for how I wanted the show to go, but what do you think of how Adam is portrayed here. I'm very proud of the "Raze Hell" line.
(Also, in this hypothetical season 2, Adam is fighting Charlie in her true form, which I think should be a shadowy/red werewolf sheep with horns, like a more terrifying humanoid version of those sheep wolves in Ratchet and Clank, Size Matters. Anyway, Charlie gets the upper hand, she's killing Adam, who isn't fighting back. Adam's plan, in case he couldn't do it, was to show Heaven what Charlie really was, a monster, hoping this would kill her dream. Vaggie realizes this, tries to stop her, but Lute gets in the way, knowing what he's doing, though not happy with it. Charlie is holding an injured adam, ready to burn he head off, but she spares him, showing him that she can tear him apart at any moment, and to show she wants to give him a second chance, too. This shocks him, not knowing how to feel, getting the forces to retreat, ending the extermination.)

I didn't expect to like Lucifer but the voice actor really makes it and I find myself relistening to Stayed Gone and Hell's Greatest Dad the most. I sometimes have moments where I dislike the lyrics of most of the songs but those two really work for me. I enjoyed watching the show but if it weren't such a big thing everyone's talking about I wouldn't be thinking about it for long which is a shame since it all feels rushed and I can't help but wonder what happened.

Personally, I was upset when Adam died, not only because I liked him, but because he was built up to have all this lore and oh now he's dead guess we'll never know his deal. It's like, even if he's brought back, by the time that happens we'll have forgotten about him and any lore drops would just be pointless

Honestly... I have REALLY mixed opinions on Hazbin Hotel. It should've tried to make the story for season 1 less overwhelming because the story and pacing is so rushed. The music is a huge mixed bag as well. I am so glad that I'm not the only one who thinks the second song in episode 6 isn't as good as everyone is saying it is. The tempo changes in it really annoyed me. And for the voice acting, yeah, it's good but... yeah, it doesn't sit right with him about how she didn't get the OG VAs involved just cause she didn't want to. Overall, Hazbin just had so much potential, but the execution for everything fell flat.

I respect your opinion on Val, but personally I disagree. I have also been a victim of sa and been in a relationship with a narcassist, emotional abuser. All of these things made me super hypersexual, trying to get anyone to be with me just to feel something, feel value. Letting anyone touch me, getting high as much as possible and turning to every self destructive I could find to numb the pain. From that perspective I relate to Angel so much and I really like the portrayal. But at the same time enjoyed Val as a villainous character. He's awful, but so enjoyable to hate. Idk thays my take... like I rlt like him as a character

My guess with Viv saying she wanted the 3 V's to have a spinoff is that she was either being kinda cheaky & actually referring to Verin, Vetis, & Vespa from Zoophobia or Valentino is going to get replaced by another V named character. Pretty sure its the 2nd option.
Vox is specified to be the big bad of season 2 & I dont think they can really pull that off if Val is always off to the side being worse.

I agree with your version of the first episode, and it is like the pilot in a way, but slightly different too. As much as I like the first episode and I am a bit biased toward it, I understand where you are coming from. Also correction, I guess? Charlie's design is inspired by Vaudeville-style porcelain dolls, puppets, marionettes, and a goat because of her hoof feet. YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! I fucking love Vox so much! I was not expecting him to be my favorite V, but he is. The way the fandom portrayed him made me kind of meh to him at first, but his official introduction and voice are fucking perfect. Fucking leave lol. Christian Borle is a fucking video star(see what I did there?) XD. Fucking love Vox and Alastor's song, Stayed Gone! It is my favorite song in the entire series. It even made me love Alastor. I liked him, but now I love him lol. I have also heard from a friend that Velvette reminds her of Anne Boleyn from the musical Six and her song does too. Valentino for me is fine voice-wise, yeah his accent slips a lot and changes and yeah I can see people being bothered by it, but it's fine. Still love Joel Perez. I wasn't expecting It Starts With Sorry to be a song you disliked. To me, it served its purpose of encouraging Sir Pentious to apologize and be a better person. I don't know if it is anyone's favorite song, but it definitely is a weaker song in the show, but fine and has its heart in the right place like it's Happy Day In Hell and it's better than that song lol. I can see where you are coming from.
Episode 3 for me is a bit messy with Carmilla's introduction and her daughters and the twist of her killing an Exorcist. Then again, before the reveal, I kind of already knew she did or heavily assumed because she literally owns steel-tipped angelic weapons. Moxxie mentions an angelic weapon made by her in Helluva Boss. But while I did love her, I still wished we got to know her more and Zestial. I Love James Monroe Iglehart. I WISHED someone at the hotel. Like I don't know..VAGGIE could have been the one who killed the Exorcist instead of Carmilla and their duet while sweet and heartwarming, needed more build-up and development behind it. I love Respectless! Lilli Cooper did a really good singing and voicing Velvette here. Daphne Rubin-Vega did a great job as well being Carmilla. Carmilla Carmine's daughters are named Clara and Odette. Clara is the name of the female protagonist from Tchaikovsky's classic ballet, The Nutcracker and Odette is the name of the female protagonist from Tchaikovsky's classic ballet, Swan Lake. I agree it should have been one daughter instead of two, but I like the references here. And because of Carmilla's angelic ballet shoes are her main weapons lol. I am a sucker for background character names in VivziePop's shows lol.
I heavily disagree with you on Masquerade but I understand why you don't like it. It is a heavy episode, and reasonably so, but I think it does a great job portraying what it is like to be in Angel's situation. I know not everyone is going to agree with it, and that's fair. But it's not meant to make you feel good or comfortable. It is to show how hard it can be to be in the adult film industry and deal with SA and DA. Especially the struggles Angel has to go through and the mask he has to put on to endure it all. Also, Angel and Husk sold their souls and are both stuck in a bad situation, but together, they can get through it and together. That's the point of Loser Baby. Also, I don't understand the issue with making a spinoff of the Vees. Yes, Valentino is fucking horrible, but so are Vox and Velvette. Valentino is the worst one in the group, but those two are just as bad because of their enabling and dismissiveness to others around them. (I am a bitch for Vox too lol). I do agree it is hard because I think they shouldn't joke at Valentino too much because of what he represents. Also the merch issue, I mean, this is a bigger discussion when talking about villain characters. People either love or hate them and Valentino is in that bracket. Also, I see where you are coming from the content warning, but they did change the rate of the episode to 18+ than the usual 16. I wasn't expecting you to bring up All You Wanna Do. I love that song, but it's so fucking sad and tragic.
I wasn't expecting Jeremy Jordan to be a blast. I already love Varian, but this was great. I fucking love this version of Lucifer and Jeremy is a legend. I agree that each song just happens and I have an issue with it as well throughout the entire series. Hell’s Greatest Dad is fucking amazing though. Lucifer is just amazing and the song is too. I fooled myself into thinking Alastor really cared about Charlie lol but his parts were just as amazing. More Than Anything fucking made me cry. At first, I loved Welcome to Heaven, but looking back, it has major issues. I really like Emily and I wished she was introduced sooner. I feel like the last song would have been more impactful if she had been introduced in the first episode and told Charlie that she could help her. Yeah, Vaggie's twist was pretty obvious if you are paying attention. I still wished that she killed the Exorcist. It was nice seeing Molly and I like Sera and St.Peter. Episode 7 felt a bit better with its story. It was nice to see a flawed part of Charlie, and seeing her and Rosie talk was really sweet. Rosie and Alastor's chemistry is so charming and loveable. While I love Carmilla and Vaggie's song, I really don't like the self-aware moment about the angelic weapons and Vaggie's twist because it is so obvious. Charlie's song in the episode was so touching and made me feel for her. The finale was great, have issues here and there. I loved the interactions with everyone in the hotel, hated that Sir Pentious's death was a joke, but happy he ascended into heaven. Fucking love Charlie's demon form, and love everyone's outfits and interactions. My favorite part of the episode was all of Lucifer's scenes and his song at the end.

Thank you for this really great breakdown. I rarely make videos, let alone reviews, but at some point I’d like to make my own video about the series. I’m halfway finished watching the show. The writing, editing, and art direction are all… very questionable at times. Those are my main gripes, as a person with some experience in all of those fields. But the music, voice acting, and animation are cool.
I didn’t want to poopoo on her show blindly. I think that’s unfair and hardly counts as constructive feedback. There are MANY bad aspects about Hazbin Hotel imo. But as someone’s first TV show and passion project, it’s a start. I think it’s great that she finally created an outlet for these characters, and I hope this experience will help her improve in her future work.

That's not all my issues but a few, the show is genuinely a disappointment and doesnt deserve to be called an Adult Show, same as Helluva Boss. I'm not a edgy teenager, I'm in my 20s and seen shows that do better at the dark & mature stuff like Code Lyoko, CL was my first cartoon I got into and did far better such as with the villain XANA and the French Creators were ballsy and didn't care, the show lasted 4 Seasons on Cartoon Network via Miguzi block and lots of things by XANA were allowed to stay & be seen when episodes aired.

I dont usually write long opinions under review videos, but your encouragement at the end made want to share some of my thoughts on a few parts i disagreed. First I wanna say though, this video is great I agreed with a lot and appreciated the criticism being based on wanting the show to be better, as of course I've come across a lot of videos and tweets shitting on the show just out of pure hatred. Mostly what I wanna share my interpretation on is episode 6 and specifically the angels since I disagreed with most of your opinions on them. (not to say they aren't valid of course, just not something I completely understand / see myself)
I personally didn't see the part about the angels being ignorant (ect) almost at all when watching the episode. After skimming through I'm mostly assuming you might mean the Welcome to Heaven musical number, as throughout the rest of the episode, we mainly just see Sera, Emily, Adam and Lute really talking / on screen. I could see the lines where Saint Peter sings about everyone in heaven being smart / bright and hot ect being somewhat pretentious, but when I watched the episode I really just though he was pretty much just glorifying heaven for Charlie and Vaggie as they (well mostly just Charlie) hadn't seen Heaven before. This is getting into a bit of speculation as theres not much to suggest this; but I also kind of just assumed maybe Saint Peter is used to giving new souls entering heaven a tour around the place, and is used to try and make it sound and look as appealing is it could possibly be to newcomers.
Now I will admit Adam, Lute and Sera do give off more pretentious vibes, but I really think they are quite the exception. Adam, because well hes Adam. Lute, because shes and exorcist raised to believe theyre better than sinners. And Sera, because she might have been desperate to prevent the souls in heaven from getting hurt. I personally suspect most of the people in Heaven are more like Emily, a.k.a quite friendly. I think most of the human souls in heaven are genuinely good. Before episode 6 & the show in general, I was under the impression the judgement system in Hazbin Hotel's universe was somehow rigged or immoral as most people do end up in hell, but after the season 1 finale and reveal or Sir Pentious getting fully redeemed , I don't think thats the case. Now I do expect there to be something wrong with the judging of who goes to heaven or hell, maybe the system of how souls are rated / judged is out dated and doesn't take into account modern issues that thecnically make someone 'bad' but ultimately is something humans can't really avoid in day to day modern life. (yes I did steal that concept from the show ''the good place'') As Sir Pentious did a nobel act and ultimately became a better person at the end and got redeemed it makes me believe the people living in heaven are good like him, As well, theyre in heaven and probably got judged just like he did. Maybe some of the angels especially those who might have lived in heaven for decades or even centuries might have gained some sort of ego, thinking they're better than the sinners but theyre most likely still good people underneath. Maybe theyre even thought to be egotistical or don't know a lot about hell in general, since even Charlie saying Lucifers name brought a big reaction out of Saint Peter, the topic of Lucifer and Hell in general might be something quite sensitive that isn't really discussed.
Now I'm gonna get a bit into a theorizing aspect, but I suspect in season 2 the residents of Heaven will have some kind of pushback against Sera and the other leaders who allowed the exterminations. Assuming the angels are actually good people, they might have a similar reaction to Emily, especially after seeing Sir Pentious and realizing the exterminations are ultimately pointless. If they are good people, they probably wouldn't want their 'government' (for lack of a better word) to kill flawed but potentially redeemable souls. I could see Emily creating a sort of uprising, which in turn would make Heavens leaders push back and reveal to the other angels (as well as the audience watching) how ultimately cruel they can be as well as how unfair the whole system is.
I was gonna talk some more about how Sir Pentious could potentially get treated in Heaven, but this comment is starting to get laughably long. Overall, these really are just my thoughts on how I read the episode and Heaven itself. I hope you make a review of Season 2 when that comes out in the future, as I really enjoyed this video :DD
Anyways sorry for the word vomit lol
