- The Ducati Monster is less of a monster these days, but the souped-up SP model still does naughty things...

I tried to turn my phone brightness up, then realised its March in the UK. Good job you guys bring rays of joy.
👍👌
😂
The street Triple and this are the reviews I’ve been waiting for from 44 teeth. I know the BBB has taken a lot of time, and is immensely enjoyable, but I trust the 44 teeth view on the new launches so have been patient for these after all the other channels. BTW, I know it’s not been long since the other channels reviews, just always wait for the bottie dyno opinion 😂😂
botty dyno 😁😂 .. that'd be Chris more n Al
First appearances, its gorgeous. Thinking back to the 80's when I started biking, there was so little choice but now we have almost endless choice of well made bikes that come with good suspension and tyres standard. Great to see Al doing a Doctors dangle at the end
Got to get a comedy dangle in somewhere
@@FortyFourTeeth I like a bit of dangle
What’s this? Statham treating us with 2 back to back uploads! Way to lighten up my week, cheers! 🙌
My favourite roads! I think they've only just cleaned up the trail of wee I left from taking various SuperDukes down there... lovely video as ever
Good that it finally got a steering damper, I had a 30 minute test ride on a standard monster and it’s the first Ducati that I have ever ridden without one, I learnt why they are fitted!
Having a good day. It just got better.
Ahhh you took it down my favourite road... Love doing the speed limit down there on a Saturday morning 🤔😁
All the roads he used are great for riding the speed limit down, I’ve ridden them many times
Looks like some pretty straight ass roads to me boys, I think texas has twister roads than that!
@@aidenlothian9642 Sometimes it's just as fun riding a bit faster and enjoy some higher speed bends. He was obviously taking it easy on camera though.
@@aidenlothian9642 the first 4 minutes of the video is the road in particular but cuts out all the decent sections
Which speed limit is that? The 99mph limits of the UAE?
Looking forward to the head to head of this Monster SP and the new Trumpet Street Triple RS.
Completely different bikes. The monster is gonna be a lot more fun at speeds between 0-50mph - As Al said - it's a wheelie machine and is designed to be entertaining between these speeds.
I moved from an 2015 monster 821 to a 2019 fireblade and without doubt the 821 is a lot more entertaining between 0-50mph - it wheelies nicely and has a great noise and punch out of the corners.
@@Neils400 In the US, they are direct competitors.
The biggest problem with the Monster is the rest of the class now - The new Street Triple RS I think is a better motor choice than this. the V-Twin in this bike just feels archaic to me.
To me the v-tiwn makes if feel diffrent from the usual 4 banger
The Monster 1200 S was supposed to be my next bike, then they got rid of it 😔 I’m hoping Ducati reintroduces some replacement down the line as I like how they offered two street brawlers before but in different flavors for different people. You have your supersport based Streetfighter with modern styling on one end, then a large capacity twin, brute of bike with more classic styling on the other.
I loved my 1200 and wished that they would have made a Monster V4. Ended up getting a SFV4 but miss the T Frame
Love going back back through all 44teeths bike reviews. Keep em coming 👍
Quite often “The Blisworth Canal Musuem” sign gets some attention.
Where is the Street triple road test?
Keeping us hanging 😂
"reach'n for pillows to cover my Casey Stoner" bbwhahahahaaha - love it!
I knew you were going to ride down my favourite again near towcester. Turn left at the roundabout by the bp garage and McDonald’s on the A43
State of the roads in the UK. I used to have a 2003 S4R. Wasn't the best handling bike ever but the engine was amazing and it was gorgeous to look at. Can't say that about the new one.
Reminds me of something that one of the Japanese companys would come out with . Its far removed from the Ducatis of just a few years ago . No snarling V-twin . No trellis frame . Add to that an engine that sounds like a sewing machine . Its not a winner for me either .
I’ve just bought an sp
And I can’t stop looking at it it’s beautiful in my eyes. Spose beauty is in the eye of the beholder
I owned the monster + 937 and sold it after 6 months for an MT09SP which was better in most areas. My issue with the Ducati was the lack of power top end, yes up to 70mph it was similar to the MT and my mates 890r but above this and in gear acceleration it wasn’t as quick or as good
I remember demo'ing a new 2006 Ducati S2R 1000 and loving it, easy to ride great punch and I was coming from a honda 4 cylinder naked..
I sold my 2015 Monster 821 stripe to get my new (2021) Monster plus and as good as the 821 was the new bike is a much more fun bike to ride. You have to have that steering damper though so if your considering the standard model you have to budget for that. Very twitchy without it on windy motorways or when passing large trucks.
I had a standard version... Awesome bike, and on the road an even better bike then my SFV2... But on track, it failed on suspension and ground clearance (crashed it, pure a suspension fail)... So the suspension upgrade on this is great and more the bike you'll ever need! Great review guys, like always!!
How was the Suspension for fast street Riding?
@@Jojocarsnbikes More then capable. For the road, if you are a Ducati fanatic and sport rider, there is no better bike out there.
Thanks for posting. Had a monster years ago. This video made me miss it. I don't have any more room in my garage. What do I tell my wife? Where am I going to sleep? Who is going to cook my meals??? I am doomed.
Exchange your Ol'Lady for the next (additional) bike, keep a separate chick for each bike you have, ride all of them alternatively = problem solved 😁
Nice one Nige’… top review. I still find the headlight challenging in looks. Must just be me.
I miss my old Monster 1200S. Most of all I miss UK riders who don't give a shit about the weather and will hoon around in the cold. I live just outside of NYC and people around here throw their bikes in jail from November through April. In the UK I used to see everyone out all year round.
5:49 “sorry officer”
Just love it😂🤭
After your street triple review I think you were very diplomatic 🤔🧐
@12:13 like that scene out of The Exorcist, suddenly cutting to the white faced nun from hell..
Great looking bike. Love the open verdict. Is that a ducati showroom or just ducati distribution centre ?
It's Ducati UK HQ
The new monster is very light and great fun
It's certainly a wonderful bike, but I would struggle to go for this over the new Street Triple RS. I can see this if you're a Ducati guy or gal but to pay more for a slower machine? Not sure.. looks like fun though!
What's worse, have a look at the price of the new scramblers against this, and a Street Triple. Ducati have their heads up their...
I'm a Ducati guy and I hate this bike... Looks like a japanese bike. And I love Japanese bikes, but I want an italian bike to be an italian bike, especially an icon like the Monster.
Monster SP is more akin to the coming 765 Moto2 ... neither are what you buy to be the fastest on a budget. They are just "nice things" to have.
@@weed46 looks like Chinese bike... not Japanese watch the casting on engine... just ugly and thin cylinder walls...
@@rideroll9609 Can't see much of the casting because it's covered with ugly plastic :D
This was interesting watching this video knowing you hadn’t reviewed the new Street Triple yet, and knowing you absolutely loved it. Would’ve it altered your comments with this Monster review, and how.
Had a 2018 monster, first bike for many years when this came out I have to admit I was underwhelmed, jumped to a Streetfighter V4 defiantly didn’t regret that decision even though it was a lot more expensive.
And there's also the V2 for very little more than this SP. Still a beast despite not being the V4
@@mindcave TBF not tried the V2 probably would have brought that but as it wasn’t launched I went for the V4 which is awesome but the top end is as many bikes are to fast for public roads 😎
Al being pretty sensible on the roads on camera these days. We all love watching you pull a big stinker 😉
That steering damper looks shocking!
Yes for less money, there's the RS to draw ones attention, but let's not forget that for not that much more, there's the sexy green (or red) beast that is the streetfighter V2! Choices choices. What an era for bikes!
I guess I'd prefer the Hypermotard over this but can't help but like a Ducati.
I’d take the Hyper’ too, but probably go to jail at the same time
I owned some nice bikes: 1290 Super Duke R, Tammy R1M, CB1000R, Hypermotard 950, XRS900, Street Triple R, Jixer 1000R, and the Monster Szp is my favorite!
Klim glove liners are easier to slip on and they're surprisingly affordable. They turn my perforated leather Summer gloves into three season gloves in New York.
There's a street near me called "Canal Parade" and the C has been covered up many times
i wonder if a decat pipe would make those termi's sound much better. Nice review
Oh it will for a fact.
I will. cat kills the sound.
go on Fagan ya legend
Nice honest review ✊
4:27 “you’ll struggle to find a more rounded package”.
I find sometimes all you need is a gentle flick of the finger to get her going.
I miss the trellis frame. But without riding this bike, I cannot judge it in either its performance or price tag. Specs on paper don’t tell the whole story.
Can’t see this being any better or more fun than the older 1200R or 1200S. Looked like a step backwards with this line.
I'm not a huge fan of the new naked bikes in general. My problem with this bike is that my 2005 Z750S claimed almost identical power output. The suspension on mine is squishy in comparison, but I can flat outrun that Monster on a "dad bike".
I love the timing where you say 'it will never rip your arms off' followed by the warning text "Slow" on the road👌🏻
Dankeschön!
I don't trust a Ducati to be any more reliable than the average politician but damnit if they dont make the best looking and sounding bikes!
so owning a ducatti is like dating a retarded annoying high maintenance super model?
Now that's more my cup of tea :)
New triumph 765 street triple, MT-09sp this Ducati or the KTM 890r🤔 would like to see a track test.. or a propper B road test or mountain road test or something..
Great revue. Affordable Ducati.. those words sit awkwardly together… I’ve wanted a monster 1100evo for ages but, the prices won’t come down. A decent one is £7k and the finish is normally showing signs of weather. For now I’ll stick to my speed triple and 790 duke
I didn't get the "affordable" thing.... this bike is 14k lol and has less power than the competition. It's a terrible value.
Andrew, I have a true minter with just a smidge over 4k miles, with Termi's too. Had it for 9 years, but don't get to ride it very much. You may find one in the right condition,, but not for £7k in tip top order and with low miles.
£3k more than the new Street Triple RS and way down on power. Also looks awkward, almost like a supermoto because of the ground clearance. I know which one I’d choose.
awesome guys
Not sure about this Monster or it’s looks; especially with the new 2023 Street Triple RS just released at better price and with rave reviews.
I haven't tried the Street Triple yet, but it would have to have gone through a revolution to beat the MV Agusta Brutale Rosso. And we can see already now that it's nowhere near as high-class and high-quality as the MV.
This Volkswagen Monster is far inferior _and_ incredibly much more expensive than both the MV and Triumph!
But if you could have one toy Ducati in the garage would you have this or the Hypermotard
nice very nice ,well done Audi .
I do miss the trellis frame on this. I don't know, it looks so...Japanese.
Yeah, looks like some sort of SV650.
are vehicles are allowed to park taking 75% of a driving lane in the UK?
Nicely done! And the only thing "less" about this monster compared to its predecessor is its weight.
Welcome to "The Shire" 🤙🏻
Think of this as a lesser Speed Triple or MT09 for way more dough with none of the Monster hallmarks.
Isn't this too close in price to the SF V2? What's the argument for buying this instead of that?
Is there going to be a road test of the new Street Triple?
Yes 👍🏼
Elephant in the room question… How is the motor/exhaust HEAT on the SP ? More than other similar brands and models ?
I have always liked the monster. But i paid about the same for my mt10 sp. The ducati is arguably prettier plus its got brembos and a decent exhaust. Lacks power though.
Was this filmed before or after the new street triple RS Launch?
Before
Naked Supersport 950 S? /// shorter wheelbase? Shorter rake?
I like the professional approach where you refrain from saying how disappointing it is and how much you don't like it but stick with it anyway, 14k is way to much for this midrange bike.
Navigation Inn.. top quality luncheon 👌
Nice looking bike but needs another 20HP to be competitive with the new STRS...
2023, where liter bikes are middleweight... Please include the CF MOTO 800NK if you do a middleweight naked bike comparo...
I’m glad The baron was no where near as you slipped those rubber gloves on.
Absolutely crazy that this gets launch control but a Panigale V2 doesn't. Come on Audi sort it out.
i f'ing love mine..... The Street triple is awesome too, but this Ducati twin engine is just butter
This or the new street triple RS ?
Pretty (despite the lack of trellis frame) but looks like it will be absolutely blown into the weeds by the new 765RS.
not silk gloves then?
I feel the Tuono 660 Factory would give this a run for its money!
Do you get 2 for that price?
Just to confirm these are actual latex gloves Alastair? 🤔🧐 Not the nitrile ones?
What are the latex gloves in aid of? Apologies if it’s obvious
Can wear them under summer gloves in the winter.
2004 S4r £4.5k or this new monster..?
Bring back the trellis frame!!
Better than the Triumph rs?
Did someone at Ducati have a brain injury? This doesn't look like a Monster at all.
Nice yamaha
Nice review. I really like this bike but it's so expensive. I get it's a premium Ducati v-twin which is iconic etc but the Triumph 765 RS is a big problem for this bike imo. The Triumph's almost as premium, 2k cheaper & possibly better in almost every way.
@@cassius348 more expensive? new ducatis arent that expensive to run.
@@cassius348 6000 miles service for Truimph--9000 miles on Monster. 18,000 for timing service.
@@cassius348 triumph is 20k km for valves and Ducati is 30km... Valve job isn't going to be a big deal
@@tomtraynor5384 MV Agusta has free servicing for 3 years so it beats both of them. (And it’s warranty is also 3 years so 1 year longer than Ducati at least, I don’t remember Triumph’s warranty length)
@@pistonburner6448 Sure. All you need is a MV Augusta dealer with a certified mechanic. In Michigan-that would be Chicago-3 hours away. So 12-total hours travel for one service. So about 50 gallons of fuel. So $200 and most of two days driving for service. Beautiful bikes!
Some of the comments are awesome lol
Nice, but it aint no 650 V-strom...
Looks awesome. Needs a single can.
Sp or streetfighter v2 ?
Cool and fun vs a damn sexy beast?
I don’t see how they’re justifying the price, other than the badge.
Street Triple RS for me please.
I remember when it was called, 'MONSTRO'.
Great bike, I just think its a step down into normal looking compared to the old 1200. Its less interesting to look at.
Cute, but I'm not trading my Monster 1200R for one.
Don't understand why you wouldn't buy a 890 Duke R or Street Triple RS 🤔 both better bikes abs you get to keep some money in your pocket. Like most things your buying a Brand and an image .
What puzzles me the most is who thinks Volkswagen bikes (="Ducati") are anything but totally embarrassing?
There's nothing less cool than Volkswagen bikes, and what's worse is that everyone knows you're a sucker to massively overpaid for it.
What you sayin then? Trellis RIP is a good thing? 🤔
Personally, yes
It's a beautiful bike but it's too expensive for what it is. I haven't ridden this but ive driven the monster +. The looks of it are great but the driving comfort just isn't there in the same way as for example a street triple RS. And that bike is a lot cheaper compares to the sp.
