    I had to host an estate sale for a friends mom, had a lot of sterling and silver plate. Only when I was finished cleaning it (to sparkle at a customer) did I find out that each time you polish silver, some rubs off. I loved this video but I was slightly disappointed when you said we didn't have to polish the silver to bring it in but didn't tell us why. Some might do it anyhow, thinking to impress the buyer, but you know what to look for.

    I always buy my silver at an auction or at wholesale. You have to do this in order to make money. As far as cleaning it, I always do that before I sell it. It really does increase the value. With the exception of very very few items.

      We totally agree with you that auctions are no panacea of riches anymore. For somebody from the general public who has a collection of silver most of the times they are better off going to place like us to sell their stuff rather than doing all that work listing every piece on eBay and then getting hardly anything.
      We still advise all of those all of those people that have silver to sell to not clean their silver. Yes if you are a dealer buying on eBay to resale stuff and you know everything about Silver and then you can clean it of course but somebody from the general public that doesn't know what a collectors item is and might ruin the values by cleaning. Bring all your silver as is when you come to sell to us or mail it to us.

    Thanks for a great video! Very informative and it’s nice to know someone on the buying side of it once the sellers to be informed and enlightened. I’m curious what the markup is when people buy silver from me. For example one time I sold at least 4 pounds of flatware that was sterling silver, I was paid $500 which seemed like a lot of money but I have a feeling they probably got $900 worth of silver. Is this correct? They were not a pattern matching service they were simply buying it as scrap silver to melt down

    Lovely Hostess. We enjoy silver queen corn in late July to early August.
    I have been picking up silver plated flatware for a few years, when I find it at thrift stores, antiques shops.
    I would consider it a hobby, as I know I will never get rich with the silver plate, The history, the designs on the flatware, is enough to keep me looking for items. I recently found a fork from E. Jaccard of St. Louis MO., with a personalized initialized engraving. It's old, and it makes me smile. Debating whether I will polish it or not.

      I have the same hobby! I live in Europe, but theres so much history in silverplate as well. Indeed we won't get rich of it, but I sometimes sell complete flatware sets for decent money (still only a fraction of sterling ofcourse) good luck :)

    Curious as to why you say not to clean the silverware but you base your estimates on condition? What exactly do you mean by condition? Maybe our definitions vary.

    I just texted you with a photo of the end of one fork because I didn't know if the number is still good. I have a full service sterling for 12 made by birks that is at least 80 years old. My mom left it to me. What should I do?

      More than likely it is just silver plated. If you want to provide a photo of the item and a copy of the hallmarks we can give you a better idea. Thanks!

    Coin silver not worth anything??? This guy don't know anything. 90% is most liquid!!! Go to your local coin shops for info. This is just not a good video. Boomers 🙄

    • @NeverEnoughPyro40
      @NeverEnoughPyro40 Před 2 lety

      Why would you go to a coin shop? I think you misunderstood what he was saying! They were not talking about the value of silver coins themselves, They were referring to cutlery and flatware that were produced using silver from coins that were melted down! The silver that is used to produce flatware and cutlery is different from the silver that was used to produce coins in the US! Apparently you do not know anything!
