  • Do you think you require a next-generation firewall (NGFW)? Do you know what distinguishes a traditional firewall from an NGFW? 🤔
In this video, I will elaborate on the differences between a traditional firewall and an NGFW. Furthermore, I will highlight the shortcomings of the traditional firewall and how the NGFW tackles those issues 😎
This video is part of my popular Tech Nuggets series. The goal of tech nuggets is to cut to the chase & explain tech concepts in the form of small nuggets that you can consume right before walking into a customer meeting or a job interview 🧳

For a home user with a powerful machine capable of running a NGFW in a virtual machine, but without a second PC/laptop/Raspberry Pi, what NGFW would you recommend (Free)? Nice Video by the way :)

      Thanks. Try Sophos:

      Sophos needs dedicated hardware

PfSense is a great "build it" home option. Very feature rich, put it on some old PC someone wants to throw away. Firewalla is a great dedicated hardware option. PfSense is something I've used for "quick and dirty" soho type things whereas firewalla is more of something I'd use for myself at my house. If it's for a lab you could look at doing emulation of enterprise/service provider grade stuff, but licensing will always be a pain. Palo/Fortigate/Juniper/Checkpoint will all be a hefty spend to get deep packet inspection licenses.

NGFW is effectively a buzzword at this point. Every major vendor includes all dpi functions to a lesser or greater extent. Also worth noting there are a LOT of options for hardware on prem as well as public cloud that arent cisco. So im not sure why cisco is the only one mentioned.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate your feedback. While Cisco is indeed a major focus of this channel due to its prominence in the networking field, I absolutely plan to diversify the content to cover a wide range of vendor-neutral topics in the long term. Stay tuned for upcoming videos that will delve into various networking technologies beyond Cisco, including NGFW alternatives and different hardware options for on-premises and public cloud environments. Your input helps shape the content direction, so thank you for your support!
