Everything Wrong With CinemaSins: Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (Inspired by Th3Birdman)

  • Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorite franchises, at least the first three. Th3Birdman has already tackled CinemaSins' video on Dead Man's Chest, and that was back in 2020, so I decided to tackle my favorite of the series, At World's End. They really mucked up all the nitpicks of this movie, and I have pointed most of them out. I don't hate CinemaSins, but it's definitely not a good series of videos. Anyways, enjoy.
    Disclaimer: I don't have much ill will towards CinemaSins, I just want to point out the many mistakes they've made in their videos.
    All film footage belongs to Walt Disney Studios, and is being used fairly

    For Sin 92...the reason "this guy" was able to say the words correctly was because in the very same scene, it's explained that in addition to burning the nine pieces of eight, you need to say the words "Calypso, I release you from your human bonds," specifically as if you were saying that to a lover. Barbossa said the words incorrectly and this guy did it the correct way.

    Missed SinSins:
    2:31 People can be separated from their companions, it doesn't mean they're at a place alone.
    3:00 How is this racist or sexist? Race played no factor here, and he's clearly just being a creep. Unless race or gender is involved in a negative way, it's not racist or sexist.
    5:55 He was having, or at least starting, a conversation.
    6:08 That was a legitimate question.
    6:45 Maybe there are other ways souls can come back from the dead. In fact, Davy Jones and his crew likely caused the green flash a lot of times, as we saw at the end of the movie when Will became captain of the Dutchman and went in and out of the living world that this caused a green flash too.
    7:18 Sinning this gorgeous scene.
    8:42 Yes, because I'm always so eager to admit that I sacrificed a friend, or at least an ally. And she doesn't know Will saw her kiss Jack.
    9:28 The REAL Sin here is that in the vastness of the Limbo ocean, they encountered her father at all; those odds are astronomical.
    10:32 It was stated that those trapped in Davy Jones' locker go mad. The months of isolation obviously caused Jack to go a little crazy and imagine other versions of himself.
    11:38 Again, there may be others ways to return to the living world besides this that also cause the green flash.
    11:47 This is a series with ghosts and witches and supernatural beings, maybe someone learned this from one of them. For all we know, a member of Jones' crew told someone about this long ago.
    12:43 Jack was only half serious here and was likely putting on a show for his crew. He even later comments to Will how he escaped the brig even quicker than he expected.
    13:09 The Dutchman was given specific instructions to go after them. The timing may be convenient but this isn't a deus ex machina.
    16:26 Jones was heartbroken back then, he probably acted on emotion and didn't care about the why. On that note, according to Greek lore, Calypso was forbidden to be with those she loved as punishment for siding with the titans in the war against the gods.
    17:28 A later scene and even the sequel shows that Jack does NOT have daddy issues. Maybe he's a little intimidated by him or is embarrassed by his own reputation, but there is no evidence that he has daddy issues.
    17:43 Many lawless groups have rules. Have you never heard the saying "honor amongst thieves"? They also have hierarchies, from street gang leaders to drug lords to mafia bosses.
    18:42 The Pirate Lords were needed because they held the necessary items, and then Barbossa says that someone, not a Pirate Lord, but someone needs to speak to her as if they were her lover.
    20:26 This is arguably the most iconic and greatest wedding scene put to film.
    21:04 It's pretty much unanimously agreed that the first three PotC movies are great, and lots of people think the 3rd is the best.
    21:26 Jones is a supernatural being. For all we know, his tentacle is trying to bring the key back to him, and he's right there, just a few feet from Jack.
    22:06 They were just floating there, there was no need for someone at the helm.
    22:22 That wasn't an abyss, it was a maelstrom; if you're going to nitpick Sins for literality then I will too. And Calypso created it to allow the Pearl and Duchman to fight one-on-one since the pirates were vastly outnumbered.

    It might not make sense of having a pirates code but they did have one for governing pirates.

    • @ajerqureshi6411
      @ajerqureshi6411 Před 23 dny

      The Pirates Code is a factionalized take on the actual ship articles that each crew operated under…basically a series of rules that emphasized things like distribution of shares, how voting works, the process of removing a Captain from his position etc.
      As far as I’m aware, there was no unified pirate rules…each crew did what they wanted.

      @smaugsauron4000 Před 13 dny +1

      @@captainvader921 yes the last Jedi is not overly complicated but I guess a better showcase of critics being hypocrites is the fact that they say at world's end sucks because it's dark out nowhere and lacks the fun of the first movie but when the last Jedi dehumanizes Luke Skywalker it's suddenly amazing storytelling even though the movie does the things that the critics hate about at world's end.

      @captainvader921  Před 13 dny +1

      That was something Nostalgia Critic pointed out, that the dark tonal shift was apparently too jarring, even though the Harry Potter films did that, and people praised those movies because of that.
