    Agree that this new Givenchy Gentleman formula smells very similar to Prada L'Homme! I've got this and Prada L'Homme on each wrist right now actually and they are almost identical bar a little bit of pear/fruit from the Givenchy. It's actually really nice and I've found performance to be good also. I'd give the Givenchy a solid 8/10.

    Hello there sir, greetings from Mexico. I bought Givenchy Gentleman 1974 for me to use, i currently wear Polo Green and Drakkar Noir with 20 years of age, and i really enjoy your videos showing vintage powerhouses. I frankly have tried modern "masculine" colognes and they frankly smell like old lady perfume and i do not enjoy that.

    The latest Givency Gentleman has the black cap and its performance is extremely poor. I have returned it back to Givenchy in London and they have informed me the last major reformulation was a couple of years back. Civet and oakmoss are gone. They have sent the bottle to France to check the juice. It's not a faulty batch it's just missing the major ingredients that made this fragrance what it is are now sadly gone. Kouros still uses oakmoss extract even though it's limited but it's still there, the same as they use the synthetic civet, at least that is better than nothing, whereas Givenchy absolutely removed the lot. The vintage juice is the only way to truly enjoy this iconic fragrance. That was a brilliant review Mr Smelly, as usual. I will have to give this new gentleman by Givenchy a sniff.

  • @shave-a-thon3415
    @shave-a-thon3415 Před 2 lety

    Perfect summation of performance and the scent itself at 6:03. I just picked it up at a hefty discount last month and find the performance less than average so far and not as good as some colognes I have. Some aftershaves I own even project better. Whether that continues as this bottle gets older and the alcohol evaporates a tiny bit, and it becomes more potent is anyone's guess.
    As for smell, it reminds me of quite a few other bottles in my collection. I would recommend it only if it's important that your shelf contains all the Gentleman releases by Givenchy.
    I have a feeling Dan's bottle appeared for sale on Ebay not long after this review.

    I have been wearing the older Givenchy and it is my all time favorite cologne. I was devestated to recently discover they have ended it and started this supposed "new and improved" scent. I am one who prefers the old-school power scents. This new cologne is so different that I have no interest at all in it. I can but imagine that Hubert de Givenchy would also be disappointed at what they have done to his classic signature scent. ;( Thanks for sharing you experience with this scent. I was wondering what others thought of this radical change.

    • @spiritchannel
      @spiritchannel Před 6 lety +2

      Thank you for your kind response. I was wondering if anyone else felt as literally "devastated" by this change--or should I say "destruction" of a true classic. I have found one classic cologne that has maintained much of it's original power, "Giorgo Beverly Hills for Men." You might want to explore this if you haven't tried it before. I find the NEW Givenchy Gentleman to smell "metallic" "shallow" and it leaves a horrible "chemical" scent. Not at all pleasant. I am crushed.

      I couldn't male up my mind either, so I bought both. Now that I own both, The VUI is richer & thicker, but less versatile for that reason, and I get comments saying I smell like a babybag.
      Gentlemen EDP is the middle ground of still having that powdery Iris/Cocoa with some added freshness. Both project really well. And both last 8 hours or so. The issue is knowing which one best represents your personality. Overall though, Gentlemen EDP is just a little easier to wear.

    i usually like givenchy fragrances my favourite summer cologne is still givenchy play (sadly discontinued but have 2 bottles) but still one to my nose was off putting (luckily I bought a 20ml travel sprayer). It was sugary sweet with a clawing effect (probably the IRIS - which i do enjoy in prada lhomme and dior homme) that to me smells very basic and dies away quickly. I did get some compliments (not alot) and it would lead me to believe it could be used as a work fragrance.
    Overall if you could get it on a discount it is ok, but plenty of better options including prada lhomme and dior homme - however, if you dont want to smell like someone else this one is less popular
