  • Filmed on 28/01/2017. It is time to revisit one spots for one of the rail tour companies, home of the West Coast Railway Company. Welcome back to Carnforth (Season 4 Episode 5).
    The weather conditions had turned for the worse by the time we arrived at Carnforth but nothing was going to dampen our spirits on the day.
    Carnforth is the gateway for the Cumbrian Coast to Barrow In Furness and Whitehaven which connects for the branch lines to Leeds as well and Carnforth is the main connection for the West Coast Mainline.
    For those who may not be aware of this: On the fast line, there was originally 2 platforms which means that connecting for the Cumbrian Coast and to London/Scotland means that train changes could have been made in the day at Carnforth. Now though and for passengers wanting to change for London/Scotland will now have to change at Preston/Lancaster.
    What was a familiar sight for the class 86 and 87's running along the West Coast Mainline pulling local hauled trains between London and Scotland has been long gone. It was a popular sight and still can be seen now and on special Saturday's as we were there to see the Cumbrian Coast Express with 86259 and 46115 Scots Guardsman.
    At this station, we see a variety of Arriva Rail North, First Transpennine Express, Virgin Trains and freight heading for a variety of destinations including: London Euston, Glasgow Central, Edinburgh, Lancaster, Barrow in Furness, Leeds, Morecambe, Manchester Airport, Heysham Port, Carlisle via Cumbrian Coast and DRS class 68's on the working of Tesco Express to Mossend Euroterminal.
    46115 Scots Guardsman with the working of The Winter Cumbrian Coast Express headed via the Shap but for the return, the tour went via The Cumbrian Coast. Last weeks tour which featured 45690 Leander could't make it down via the coast due to gauging issues but today certainly made up for last weeks tour.
    As always, Carnforth never fails to disappoint with mass and great variety there is.

      Thanks, Carnforth brings a mixture of surprises. the 37's on the day were supposed to be working a nuclear waste train which was cancelled so the 37's ran light. Yep, 86259 Les Ross always looks her best whilst running either 'The Cumbrian Mountain Express' or 'The Cumbrian Coast Express' It won't be the same without 46115 Scots Guardsman though as she's gone for an overhaul.

    1:26 that looks unbelievably fast - it's as if you have sped it up?

    • @RickyNowis
      @RickyNowis  Před 7 lety

      It wasn't sped up at all. Trains can go as fast as 110 MPH through Carnforth junction heading up the West Coast Mainline for Penrith and Carlisle :-)

      I watch at just south of Oxenholme and near Milnthorpe and they never go more than 100 where I am but that class 350 looked amazing at speed

      They do fly when they want to. Your right, I watched videos with trains at Oxenholme but compared the difference and trains are slower through there.
