Great cards, sad story. Hopefully Tony and his daughter had a great time! It's crazy to look at the condition of these cards and how much they resemble my own cards from the 90's. Playing in the grass or on the concrete are some of the best memories I have from my childhood.

I'm in my fourties now as well and seeing this brings back a lot of memories. Back in the 90ies playing magic was about having fun with a card game, not about monetary value. Back then nobody thought that these cards could be worths thousands of dollars someday. There was no internet to look up the value of a card or a decklist. All of our decks were homerbrew, they were shit, but boy did we have fun. Miss those days.
I understand this is a grading and pricing video at its core but the fact that these cards are so worn and loved makes the statement of giving them up in a heartbeat to make his daughter happy all the more meaningful. These were clearly not simple pieces of cardboard to Tony, they held a lot of memories of good times. All of that pales in comparison to his child. What a video. What a guy.
Enzyme replacement therapy in the CSF is such a difficult science and very much in its infancy. Nothing pains me more than hearing about children being robbed of their chance to grow and chase their dreams. God speed, Tony. Enjoy the time you have with her. Almost expected to see the old decks I used to play against in middle school and high school.
Something from an old in school player, that might answer Rudy's question on the corners. When the corners would get beat up, you would clip the corners so you could keep shuffling them, we didn't have sleeves back then and if they got too fuzzy it would be hard to play. Thus why the commons might be what's clipped more than the others.

I have so many magic the gathering cards between unlimited edition and visions and even a couple 100 cards from 1994. Watching this brings back so many memories. Some are in decent condition and the are heavily played but still look nice. Just not sure what I should do with them Alpha Investment’s ??

Some people clipped corners to play in a unsleeved deck because sleeves weren’t really a thing back in the 90’s yeah I’m old. I was there and remember tearing up and abusing collector cards cause they were deemed worthless.

Yeah, the clipping was bad and lots of CE/ICE cards were destroyed that way. But those were the times, no sleeves, just game.
Yeah I like to buy played cards. Easier to buy and if they are playable still liquid for players.
I’m a condition purchase with anything I collect, however, with cards if I need something for my deck condition isn’t as big of a deal because I want to play with it and not worry about resell value down the line, I want to have fun with it and enjoy it and not spend a million dollars. But collecting wise, I’m always going for the minty stuff lol.

Not intentionally thrashed but just cards that got their war wounds from the games they were played in.
All about the memories and the fun.
I like the message at the end about just get these cards to play them, no matter how messed up. The problem is these specific ones are cheaper because theyre gold border and not allowed in any events.

Considering the last comment about buying played vs near mints, I love buying played cards, simply because I can throw them into good sleeves and still get some love and play out of them. Then again, I'm not in it just for the monetary gain, and I love playing the game.
Besides, a damaged Force of Will counter spells just as well as a gem mint one.

I think wizards mentioned several times and mark rosewater said it interviews that they consider collectors edition and ICE a mistake!
They wont go back and do anything alike, especially with RL cards. The print run is very low and the attrition rate is super high. I think at a very foreseeable point of time in the future we see those cards outperform UNL card prices and in some instances maybe even beta, just because they are so rare in decent condition.

I agree, it's devastating. I'm only on a mission to make sure he doesn't use her to scam anyone else out of money. People at their core are loving and generous, and I don't want to see that used against them. While he was busy writing fake stories about cherished cards and creating horrible narratives about her mom, he was no where to be found. So it breaks my heart to see other people on here calling her trash and worthless when she was the one at the hospital, and by that baby's bedside every day. The only reason I even knew this video existed was because he gleefully forwarded it to rub in our faces that he got the money he did. He never even offered to help with the funeral expenses. I won't pretend I'm not coming from a place of hurt, but I will help protect that beautiful baby girl's mom's name with everything I have in me.

Mono colored deck was normal. Sometimes you would play someone with a two colored deck. Dual lands wernt the bees knees back then thats why they are in better shape

Not gonna lie I dig the look of these cards they look used yes but that’s mtg. I buy heavy played cards and touch up those beat up sides with a sharpie clean them up a bit sleeve them and they go in my janky decks !
