- "In a gay conversion center, a young girl risks everything to save her new friend." An updated, 2019 version of my short film! I really took into consideration all of the great feedback and constructive criticism from the 2018 release of this film (you can watch it here • AVA - An LGBT Short Fi... ) and thought, why not go ahead and make some improvements!
Thank you so so SO very much to everyone who liked, commented, and shared the original Ava -- as of right now it is at 430,000 views and that seriously is insane to me! This story really means a lot me and the fact that it meant so much to other people too is very powerful.
This film was made in August 2018 in Prodigy Camp, it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life and I am so proud of what everyone was able to accomplish there. Thank you to Ethan Seneker, the DP. I also had the opportunity of working with Ella Fields (visit her channel / @ellafieldslovesyou ) Kayleigh Amstutz, Mandi Wickline and Shawn Telford, who were all amazing actors!

Please comment and questions/critiques, this film was a sort of experiment with making something that is visually and not dialogue driven and I'd like to know what works and doesn't. This was my second short film I've directed and written and I can't wait to make more!

Damn this was beautiful! This film is truly something else. I came out to my family this time last year and they were very accepting but i still find it hard to talk openly about my girlfriend but seeing films like this with girls i can relate to really helps. Thank you x

I’m kinda fond about this film but I think I get the jist of it. These girls are sent to this “ church camp/school” to change the way they are because of whom they love.

I have a few questions though if you don't mind me asking. In the last parts I'm confused what's happening because Ava has been allowed to go home the next day. So is she just leaving early? Is that why she can leave without anyone even questions her? Otherwise how is it possible for her to just take the phone and leave? Is she helping her friend after all but then why is no one stopping her?

I'm a little bit confused can someone explain please
They are religious so being gay isn’t accepted and they sent to receive ‘treatment’ or like counselling to be more straight. (I can’t beleive people actually do that cos jeez that’s never going to work) but so she then gets out and continues being gay and has a girlfriend and stuff. I think I’m right but idk maybe not exactly that
@@ameliewillis-jones5598 I actually think that the part about her girlfriend is a flashback from before she was sent away. As you can see she realizes her dad saw her and it isn't good and then he walks away, from what I can tell. :)

Interesting fact: over 1500 animal species practice same-sex relationships. Only one of those species has a problem with them- humans.
It’s not a choice. It’s nature. We don’t get to choose who we love..
Also, I find it ridiculous that conservative people use the excuse that god doesn’t love gay people when the Bible SPECIFICALLY SAYS “god created you in his very own image,” so if he thought that being gay was wrong why would he make people gay?Are people seriously about to go against the book they quote on the regular?
I’m not even religious but I know that there’s another thing in the Bible about god loving everyone no matter what, but when you bring it up to these people they said it only applies to the “most perfect Christians.” I remember asking someone once if god loved murderers despite the fact that they’ve killed people and I was told “yes,” yet gay people are somehow worse than murderers??!
What kind of logic is this??

yeah it’s called conversion therapy camp which is illegal too
it’s a conversion camp. lgbtq people are sent here to be “turned straight” or whatever
I wanted to make this film to kind of bring some awareness to something people don’t know a lot about. Conversion therapy is actually legal in most states, believe it or not. While physical abuse is always illegal (but still happens veryyy often in places like this) there’s not a lot of laws about the emotional and psychological abuse these places cause . While this film is still very much so stylized and I took artistic liberties, the idea behind it and some of the situations are based on real accounts I found from people who had stayed at places like this- and thank you, I’m glad you liked it :)
Also I should mention - even in places where it’s technically illegal there’s loopholes because minors don’t really have any say in the matter

This reminds me of another short film I watched it was a sin school and it basically torture two people that were there the only it was for girls who were lesbians but also for other things like smoking and it's not a sin to be a lesbian or different sexuality if God didn't except that then why would God make us different sexuality
