As a mechanical engineer, the thought process and compassion to make something like this, the mechanical prowess to build it is all impressive to me. Primary purpose to quell people’s anxiety and bad memories around the sound of an air raid siren, makes me emotional and I’m not sure why. It’s beautiful, like the buildings singing to the neighborhood. Good on Yamahas past president Genichi Kawakami for doing this for the Japanese people
@@brightax7502I figured out how it works more. So it’s a normal air raid siren. An air raid siren gets its pitch from two things. The speed it’s spinning which is the sound you associate with the air raid siren (the pitch going up and down) The other way is the holes on the side the size of the holes on the air raid siren effect the pitch as well so have a 6 inch hole and a 3 inch hole next to each other you get a octave. And that’s basically what’s happening here it’s adjusting the size of the hole to change the pitch
Why am I crying over a 5 year old video of the last song ever played from an instrument I only just discovered existed today? It is such a beautiful goodbye from such a beautiful machine. We don't make 'em like we used to anymore. I now know there are two other second generation Yamaha Music Sirens still operating, and I fully intend on going to see them some day.
I know sirens are not living things and have no emotions or minds, but this made me cry as it felt like this siren was thanking everyone for enjoying its music for the last several decades and that it would miss bringing music to the community. In short it was saying: "永遠にさようなら(Eien ni sayōnara)" ("Good Bye Forever")
The Yamaha music siren…a beautiful piece of Japanese technology. Singing its wonderful songs for many years… and now it’s being retired… rest in paradise you magnificent metal music box. It was wonderful hearing your music for all these years hoho it’s sad to see you go but I’m sure we will meet again soon… ;) farewell… Yamaha
As long as these videos exist this beautiful siren will exist and who knows someone with a great craft in the shop somewhere may resurrect it and we'll be able to hear it roar again! "Don't cry because it's over, be happy that it happened"
you may think its playing "auld lang syne" the Scottish song but its playing 蛍の光 or Hotaru no Hikari or "light of fireflies" which uses the tune of auld lang syne
yamaha be like: an extremely dangerous tsunami is coming 🌸😊😊😊🌸 what an amazing machine though, rest easy machine. I just found out about this today but I want to make a working mini replica so it can live on.
So what I can translate from the desc, they are disassembling it and they won't be bringing it back onto that roof due to complications with the owner of the machine and the manufacturer no longer producing musical siren Parts.

Auld Lang Syne - what a fitting ending for this siren. Does anyone know if the siren or building are still there?
The building is, but the siren isn’t.
@@MasenMonster both are gone
@@theray2009 Oh. Is this the one on the Yamaha headquarters?

I‘ve loved sirens for quite some time now, what a beautiful rendition by a great piece of engineering.
As long as these videos exist this beautiful siren will exist and who knows someone with a great craft in the shop somewhere may resurrect it and we'll be able to hear it roar again! "Don't cry because it's over, be happy that it happened"
If I ever manage to get enough motivation, engineering know-how and cash, I’d probably end up making one myself.
ミュージックサイレン。

6時に「朝」、12時に「靴が鳴る」、18時に「荒城の月」、22時に「ブラームスの子守唄」がなっていました。恐らく2014年ごろ終わったと思います
I seen one when I was like 10 bc I traveled to japan to see it that time

rip yamaha have such good machinery
スピーカーで無しに『生演奏』の蛍の光は、贅沢な時報設備。ピアノ等『音楽のヤマハ』是非とも稼働を継続して欲しかったんですけどね。
I love this machine more than anything
RIP. Phenomenal performance.
it would be kind of wholesome but at the same time creepy if they played this while the world ends
