Rafa fans shouldnt be mad at this, he’s not some miracle that can go straight back into beast mode after not playing for so long, I’m glad he had a tough match that tested him, and he fought well as always.
exactly! he played incredible for a comeback
Yes ok but vs Thompson...the cosmic nothing😅
Not mad, just disappointed. Who tf is Thompson 😂😂
Im still amaze with how Rafa played ❤
“Tough match” against the world #58 whose best GS result is a 4th round exit. Yes, far from a miracle return for Nadal. Atleast he didn’t get injured.
One of the greatest match points I've ever seen! Even the train wanted to join in😅
I thought that noise was coming from the audience 😂😂😂

It’s a train. The tracks run right by the stadium lol
One of the best matches of 2024 so far. Thompson played out of his mind.

All positive for Rafa. He needed a long match to test his fitness and match prowess. He now has things to work on so really positive for AO.
Haha, maybe he'll win first round, but him and Murray won't make 2nd week.🤣😁

Tremendous Idiot jajaja@@pauljohnson6019
@@pauljohnson6019any reason you're such a hater? Djokobitch got his meat all up in your anoose? 😂
For Nadal, everything is about warming up for the clay court season, even AO.
Thompson has the most improved backhand I’ve seen a pro player develop- it was an obvious weakness now it’s a weapon
Thanks probably due to Marinko Matosevic's input. Remember how good his backhand was back in his day? Was as solid as a rock!
Well good for him for getting better.. isn't that the point?
Yeah, and I’d never seen him hit those really heavy topspin forehands, seems like it used to be mainly a flatter shot
@@holl01 Almost forgot about that guy.. Felt like that guy had the shortest pro tennis career I ever seen.

What a stupendous comeback from Thompson! Saving 3 MPs when the score was 4-5 (30-40) and 4-6(tie-break). He was level-headed at the most pivotal moments in order to pursue his combat against Rafa. Even so, it could have been a more different scenario.
your comment doesn't make sense.......
that last point was a grind you get immersed more and more with each return. never get tired of a finisher of that kind.

@@Alfredul03damn Nadal is back since three days and the salty fans are back at it again
This match is at the level of a master 1000 final. Both players did so good. Rafa definitely needs matches like this though it doesn’t feel good to him losing quite soon. He now knows better about his body, he has pushed his level up a lot in this match. I even feel like he felt enough after 3 hours playing so he want to rest soon to maintain his well being. Rafa fans have reasons to believe this year
Despite the loss, positive signs for Nadal! Hopefully the hip timeout was nothing serious.
He said farewell at the end of the match as if it was the last goodbye to Brisbane😢
Hoping for a healthy run at the AO!
Sadly, nadal wasted his chance on 2nd set when he lost a momentum when he was 5:4 with A-40 but ended up 5:5. After that, he was 6:6 with 3-0 -> 5-3 -> 6-4 but ended 6-8, so he got robbed on 2nd set
How was he “robbed”. He lost fair and square (and took a tactical medial timeout too)
Yes it looked a little like "goodbye" at the end
@@timbaker4253 unfortunately people's vocabulary is so freaking limited at this point, they just can't articulate what they actually want to say. "missed opportunity" is probably what the op means. this is what abject failure of the school system leads to.

Exactly life Rafa- very good mental strength and tenacity. Great fortitude.
Shoutout Jordan Thompson didn’t know bro had that much ice in his veins. Also Rafa played great as well. For his first tournament back he played really well. I think a French Open Title is still in the cards for him.
Man! Fantastic match. All the greats can be beaten; but it's going to take a heck of a tennis day to do that. This was that day for Thompson.

@@Nat-oj2ucYeah but that backhand volley he missed on match point was brutal. He probably is the best of all time at hitting good drop volleys but he doesn’t even get it in the court, and he misses an easy approach shot on another match point. Honestly more impressed at how healthy Rafa looked in his matches. Win or lose his body bounced back tremendously from his injury if he can maintain this level of play🥳 hoping to see much more Rafa in AO
Disappointing for Rafa, but he played against an inspired opponent and the match got a little bit too physical for him at this stage. It was the type of match that he needed to end in 2 sets and he had his chances, but it just wasn't his day. Thompson deserved to win for this kind of performance. Overall, a positive tournament for Rafa and plenty of good signs. It's just about match fitness and consistency now.

Un partido magnífico, felicitaciones a los 2, gran juego
Looks like it was a great match to watch. Hard to tell from highlights but Thompson played really well. Nadal may have lost but I'd say the start of his comeback has been quite successful. And what a match point! One of the best I've ever seen.
It's always a pleasure to watch Rafa play, and today he didn't have a bad performance, but we have been able to see what his real level is at the moment:
- He lacks mobility.
- It was clear today that he suffers a lot from the humidity, and sometimes he looked tired.
- As he said yesterday in the press conference, he loses concentration and sometimes gets out of the match.
- He has not had a clear objective to dominate and be aggressive, and Thompson has taken good advantage of the balls that he has put in the middle of the court.
In short, it is a good start to the season, taking into account he is been out of the competition for a year, but against players of higher calibre, he will suffer a lot if he is not physically perfect and playing with much more determination.
u got too much free time man
Who are you his coach?
It seems like he was playing with not much effort today. Probably wanted to test if he can play a longer match. The forehand and backhand speed was lower today. Let’s hope he gets to the peak of his health by the start of AO. Vamos!
Great analysis
Analysis he's not on clay, simple.🤣🧱
He is finished
Simple mind
Freaking out of this world win. Both Rafa and Novak are showing signs of slowing down. What a win and battle for the greatest mustache by Thompson ❤
It's always great to see when younger players play that kind of stuff.... truly a milestone for thompson❤
Sad to see him lose, but everyone needs to realize that Nadal was off a year and to compete again at the level that he’s at and the entire ATP for that matter. Anything can happen and he’s wise to know that, he’s been here for a long time, to take a year off and then compete again, wow…..that’s awesome! But to feel like you can compete to the fullest not like before when you compete and then there’s pain. We all know the tight schedule ATP puts of the players, tournament after tournament, it’s hard to find time for the body to recover, especially at his age. Also let’s not forget, Thompson is also a great player, those long rallys, I was hoping he’d make a mistake. Who knows, if when Rafa was younger Thompson would have his work cut out for him. I feel the momentum shifted when it was 6-6 in second set and Thompson won it in a close battle. But we as fans should just enjoy Rafa is back. Like he said, his goal wasn’t to win at ALL cost, just play. Let the body get back to the level he wants without such high expectations. He did an excellent job! ❤ Rafa!
Nothing to be concerned about at this point. He did better than I expected tbh.

Bad luck today for Rafa but anyways we need to congratulate Thompson on amazing job well done . Its obviously his biggest win in his carrer so far. He raised his level throughout the match and showed some epic points. However i hope that Rafa can find solutions for his physical problems and that his body will help him to play the AO, because what he showed today seems good to me and he made some awkward placements but all in all he played a fantastic match.
