Hey, friends! Hope you enjoyed the (very weird, abstract) video. The videos been age and ad restricted, so it's pretty much dead in the water by way of the algorithm! Consider giving it a share and all that stuff. And of course, supporting with a pledge on Patreon is always a great way to help and support: patreon.com/epochphilosophy Thanks for any and all support!
Thanks my dude! Wanted to challenge myself with this one, and do something weird and (hopefully) artistic. Didn't know how this would land, but if you approve, I feel more sure of myself!
You are fully delusion if you believe that. Peterson has spent the bulk of his career trying to understand atrocity and genocide. His psychological work is meant to act as a bulwark against the sort of ideological possession that would drive one to commit such acts. This channel, Epoch Philosophy, is essentially leftist authoritarian (read Marxist) propaganda that takes much of its pieces out of context and constructs facile dialectical narratives to promote the fall of capitalism. My hope the video creator will ask for a refund on their graduate humanities degree.
God. The segment on the Syrian refugee crisis took me back; I had forgotten how vitriolic and widespread the pushback was against Syrians trying to flee to the West from countries that we devastated. It's like my brain has repressed memories from that time because of how tumultuous it was for me. I grew up in the Church and was a pretty devout believer through my adolescence and teen years. The Syrian refugee crisis was the first domino that set off the chain of events that would make me question my faith and discover my political beliefs. I was never a "conservative" really, I always felt like a hippie growing up, maybe because of my affinity for music and art and fascination with countercultural movements, but I felt an allegiance to the Church broadly and so I entertained their backwards notions at least partially. Hearing and seeing how they felt and reacted to Syrian refugees was enough to make me realize that I am not one of them. The arguments I had with longtime friends and leaders in my Church were still some of the most heated i've had to this day. Here I was, the fool, believing in the things Jesus taught about the outcasts, the sojourners, the "least of these". It was made even more clear when I became friends with a Syrian refugee in senior year; Soula, a lovely, reserved, curious girl, who I tutored in Math because she struggled quite a bit and had a lot of catching up to do in our curriculum (you know, from being a refugee and all arriving in the middle of the school year). She introduced me to her brother, Mousa, and the rest of her family (which I am unfortunately forgetting the names of) who welcomed me into their home on many occasions, fed me, and treated me like their own. One of the sweetest and most well knit families I've ever had the pleasure of meeting; certainly more put together than mine. All of this made me wonder how anyone could ever hold such hatred and believe in such a warped image of Syrians, especially followers of Jesus. This is not to take part in some self-humiliating ritual, mystifying the Other, "oh, people of other cultures are so much better than us, we have a lot to learn from them" and so on (i'm sure we're all familiar with Zizek's criticisms of this type of behavior). It's just my anecdotal experience at the microlevel of the macro phenomenon of the Syrian refugee crisis, and this video reminded me of all that encompassed. Hard, ugly times made more beautiful by my fortunate encounter with Soula and her family, a target for populists looking to gain political clout through xenophobia. TL;DR this video made me remember how the Syrian Refugee Crisis revealed a lot of supposedly hidden darkness in our country and effected me personally by making me question my religion due to other Christians xenophobia. I also got to meet an amazing family of Syrian refugees at that time.
I keep coming back to this. An ambient jungle music video masterpiece. Both the artists who made the music, and you, who made the visuals are absolute gigachads who deserve all the good things in life.
Ian, this was-and I don't use this term lightly-a masterpiece. You powerfully captured the shifting tides of the past two decades in a way that I don't think anyone else has done so far. A round of applause 👏👏👏👏 Melody
You have consistently put out some of the most thoughtful, informed, and compelling content. Zizek, Fisher, Bloch, closing on MLK Jr...Really powerful merging of visions. Thanks for what you do.
Firstly, this is a work of art that would make Adam Curtis proud. Thank you. Secondly, I had just turned 21 when Colin Powell gave his UN presentation to justify the invasion of Iraq. I cried the strongest tears I have ever cried because I *knew* that hell was about to be unleashed upon millions of innocent people. I visited the US (from England) in August 2008. Beautiful country, lovely people…So much more damage has been done since. But we must keep going...
As depressing as it was to live through these major events and see little changes made for the better. It's honestly that the growing popularity for the method to change things that my generation use is just: Direct Action. Gives me hope that we can change something or at least go down fighting.
I love the quality and effort put in when you narrate your videos in the usual style but somehow this is just as good and not a single word needed to be said. Thanks comrade, solidarity forever.
this was really good, reminded me of It's Not Just In Your Head quite a bit. Great recap at how, expected hindsight, all these major events happened. Great work dude
Not what I came here for, but actually I really enjoyed it. I like the vibe of your work in general, it's like I'm in that disconnected insomnia state and I won't be able to tell if it's a real memory after (your voice also suits that vibe).
So much packed into such a short video. I know you couldn't include everything but I appreciated what was included. Very very emotional. I really really enjoyed this video. Just the sense of living in time & in history is overwhelming but I suppose that is what humans have always done. Again, such a wonderful & powerful video. You've done incredibly well with your choice of clips and editing. It really sets this video apart.
Damn, that was chilling but engaging. I think I just read about what Adorno called oppositional art, along the lines that art should be negative, not "happy" and reflect the antithesis of what we want. I might have got that wrong of course but it popped into my mind. Now to ruin everyone else's day and share this on the socials!
Thanks so much for the comments. The last few minutes I wanted to spin the bleakness into hope. A better future is always possible and we have way more power than we often think.
Hey, thanks so much dude. I highly doubt that, sadly lol. Video has already been demonetized and age-restricted, which means it's algorithmically dead in the water. But, that's alright by me. It happens lol. But, any share or anything that allows the video to move is always appreciated!
This was incredible and really laid bare the truths of our time. Thank you for putting this together and however much time and energy it took to create was absolutely worth it.
I really wish CZcams let me know when new stuff drops from people who’s work I like… Anyway, this is great art. It’s disturbing, and disgusting, but it’s really well done, and I wish more people would see it. Like a cliche, I had a single tear rolling down my face by the end. “The horror…. The horror.” We shall overcome? 👏🙏✊♾
Holy shit...this is amazing, why the hell didn't youtube inform me of this... It's like Adam Curtis on coke lol, idk I lack the words to describe other than...yes...I feel the vibe!
Totally the opposite of my intent with this video. Firm believer that because of this (admittedly horrible) political and socio-economic time we are in, only because of it, a better future is possible. I consider the end of the 20th century a heavy historical (political) calcification in some respects, with these past few years offering a ton of movement.
Was hoping for a new response at the end. Battling this neo-liberal hell scape should be done with new ideas and new people. Great video all in all, but don’t forget to keep moving forward.
I absolutely knew the comments of you forgot "x" event in American history would happen with this video. And all I can genuinely say is that I wanted this video to be just at 10 minutes long and rather short. It ended up at 23 minutes. I absolutely couldn't include everything. Nor is succinctly including every 21st century historical event (which is impossible) the point of the video.
Once again, depression lurks. I honestly don't see any significant improvements on the horizon and no matter how optimistic I try to be, I feel the U.S. is heading towards a civil war and will drag the rest of the world down with it.
are you asking 'the people' to respond? via youtube? What kind of response is that? confusion as eye candy? .... what was the point of your video? ...... to agree with you? ........ to challenge you? ..... to gain views and money?..... to be recognised as a film maker?

What an accomplishment! Can't say I enjoyed this particular recap, but as a feat of vibe-creation it was next level, a great stylistic evolution.

The Jordan Peterson x Stephen Molyneux clip chilled me. Give JP a reactionary audience rather than a mainstream one, and he will go full eugenics.
@@deathbycognitivedissonance5036 what is childish about what being said?

That was very powerful. You have demonstrated the decent and how the horror stories we see today are just a continuation of the same decent.

It's honestly that the growing popularity for the method to change things that my generation use is just: Direct Action.

Wait, where is the "little change to the better"?
Doing stuff, outside the weird abstractions the ruling class gives us to feel as if we have agency, is indeed the way forward.
I wish the method to change things that was growing in popularity was voting
Just amazing to show the horrors in full force out there
This was great. Loved that speech at the end and MLK's universalist message.
MLK will always be at the heart and root of my ideal future. Because of him, it's a little bit easier to imagine a better world.
I love the quality and effort put in when you narrate your videos in the usual style but somehow this is just as good and not a single word needed to be said. Thanks comrade, solidarity forever.
This is your best work. Id love to see more like this, no explicit narration, just telling the story with clips and music.
I believe that things will get so much worse. Events portrayed in this piece only allude to the true horror yet to come.
this was really good, reminded me of It's Not Just In Your Head quite a bit. Great recap at how, expected hindsight, all these major events happened. Great work dude
