  • Princess Leonor, the Princess of Asturias, and her sister, Infanta Sofia, recently engaged with 40 young winners of the "What is a King for You?" competition, spanning editions 32 to 39. These young participants, aged 17 to 20, visited the Gallery of the Royal Collections, where they received insightful explanations from National Heritage mediators and the esteemed writer María Dueñas. Their Majesties, the King and Queen, joined the group during their exploration of the Bourbon Room, specifically the section dedicated to Charles III.
Following the tour, the princesses met with the young winners to discuss their projects. This school contest aims to foster creativity among children across Spain, encouraging them to reflect on the monarchical institution. Through their projects, students promote respect for the monarchy and core values such as coexistence, solidarity, and democracy.
Located in the heart of Madrid, next to the Royal Palace, the Gallery of the Royal Collections is a celebrated architectural marvel, having won ten awards. The gallery showcases over 650 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and decorative objects. Renowned artists such as Velázquez, Caravaggio, Goya, and Luisa Roldán are featured, highlighting the richness and diversity of the Royal Collections.
This National Heritage site serves as both a showcase for the Royal Sites and a modern warehouse for cultural assets. The museum, which opened over a year ago, functions as a dual exhibit: it displays Spain's historical and artistic wealth through five centuries of royal collecting and promotes awareness of the conservation efforts for the Royal Sites managed by National Heritage.
The Gallery of Royal Collections is a "museum of museums," displaying an array of cultural artifacts including paintings, sculptures, armor, tapestries, carriages, furniture, and jewelry. The avant-garde building, designed by Tuñón and Mansilla, seamlessly integrates with its historic contents.
Earlier in the day, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, alongside the King and Queen of Spain, presided over the solemn change of the Royal Guard. They also presented the Order of Civil Merit awards, recognizing individuals who exemplify service to society through their professional and personal lives. The day concluded with a lunch attended by representatives of the State and notable members of society.
