  • PCP air rifle, Gamo Phox air rifle review and update. Made in the UK, by BSA. 12 months on this pcp air rifle has had some rough use. How is it holding up? This complete package, Air Rifle, scope, stirrup pump, bag and pellets is still under £500.This is not a sponsored video, its my own rifle, that is use regularly. Opinions are all my own, I really like my Gamo Phox and I shoot a lot of rifles.

    Hi mate,
Just heat shrunk that silencer cover that you recommended in your video to my gamo phox and can only say that I'm MORE than happy with the results, what a difference!
Disagree with you about saying not the "best budget on the market" though as I've spent 2 to 3 more hundred of £££'s on different ones that still don't come close to the lightweight, or the accuracy, of this superb hammer forged barrel.
Exceptional knowledge of air guns/rifles and very entertaining to watch.

I've acquired one, recently and have found it to be exactly as you say, pin point accuracy, relatively light weight in comparison to other more expensive models, magazine slips in and out comfortably, and you don't feel like you have to protect the stock from scratches at all cost. Not that we would deliberately mistreat a gun," but things happen". After all its a tool to be used, not a work of art. Just a practical piece of kit.

I've heard of a few BSA magazine issues lately. I've personally never hit that issue. The Puncher NP02 is a brilliant rifle, I love mine. You do need a way to fill it though and a decent scope and a silencer. Gamo provide all that in the kit, so I don't think the Kral is cheaper but it is a great little rifle. 👍

Good utility gun. The trigger adjustment screw can be swapped out for a longer one which gives you a much cleaner break on the 2nd stage. I also found mine groups better with the barrel-band removed - I use JSB Exact Diabolo 4.53's in mine, and the accuracy is as good as anything 3x the price in sub 12.
Power can be adjusted within the legal limit - add a quality scope and this may be all the rig you'll ever need.
On the negative side, it is front-heavy and longer than is the fashion these days; this translates to awkward ergonomics in the field. That would be my only criticism - there are many guns out there that are a lot more pointable.

i recently bought the gamo Coyote, more or less the big brother of the phox, and it is a truly accurate rifle, but mine prefers the heavier pellets 15gr and upwards, i've also fired the H&N 30gr slugs through it and they performed decent, but 15-21gr seems to be the most accurate. Sidenote, i'm in holland and we have no power restrictions, so mine is putting out around 29,5ft/lb mine also came in a package deal with scope, silencer and pump, but they upgraded my scope without telling me the kit was supposed to come with the standard gamo 3-9x40 scope but in my package they had put the gamo 3-9x40 AO scope, which over here in holland is twice the price of the standard gamo 3-9x40 scope, so that was a nice little bonus. Also the other difference between the phox and the coyote is mine has an adjustable cheek piece, but other than that it's almost identical, how did you put the weaver/picatinny rail on the front of the stock?

    Hello my friend.
I really enjoy your videos, listening to you, agreeing with your points and feeling like I'lm sat next to you in what looks like your gun room.
I hope my point doesn't sound like double dutch, but here goes.
I really like your rifle there and feel its great kit for the price tag. It's super accurate, lightweight to carry, hard wearing stock, hammer forged barrel, quiet, nice cocking barrel and magazine, all for a very moderate price. I think it's fantastic.
For double your money, you would start with beautiful walnut stocks that you really wouldnt want damage, though I doubt, double the accuracy.
For triple your money, you could have the beautiful stocks though ironically, I dont think youd have triple the accuracy. In fact, I think your unit could match the accuracy of a popular brand leader at triple its price. However, many air rifles triple the price spend much of their time in the workshop. I dont think your unit will spend much time in any workshop apart from service.
Thank you for profiling this great air rifle and showing us how good it really is. It looks super.
    Thank you, Ian.

      Hi Ian,
Thanks for your viewpoint. I'm with you all the way. I was shooting an Air Arms s410 the other day and thinking what a great rifle. If only the bolt was smoother and it was a bit lighter, maybe just a fraction shorter, too. Then I remembered the phox and thought this thing is over priced. I still enjoyed shooting it. The rabbits didn't seem as keen. Just goes to show the price tag isn't everything.

Yes, as they say, every man's home is his castle. What works for one, doesn't always work for others.
With me, it's the quality within reason. I don't need the best, prob in-between. However, some just won't pay.
Generally, you get what you pay for, though the Gamo is fantastic kit.
Yet, you can pay top dollar for mediocre kit. Some people need to be seen paying top dollar and need to be seen doing it.
All part of the panto, lol.

Hello Sir, I've just been reading a comment from your video, then realised it was I who'd written it, lol! Thank you for your reply.
If I may ask a couple of questions, please? The Gamo Phox you have there looks great. Being made by Gamo/BSA, it won't be a lot different to the BSA R10, what with the cocking barrel and hammer forged barrel. I would expect the R10 to be better, but they are so similar. Do you think there'd be much in them? The Phox will be much more hard-wearing, but that's no help with accuracy.
My other query is your use of rubber shrink wrap. Would there be any risk of damp getting in between and lingering, causing possible problems with blueing, etc? Thank you.

Have been looking at buying an air rifle for a while now. Initially looking at the Weirauch HW97k, primarily because springers are more convenient as no pump or bottle required and it's not a bad price for what the reviews are saying is a very accurate and quality air rifle. However, having seen this, I am in 2 minds, as the package deal looks very enticing. Out of curiosity, at what pressure do you start noticing a drop in accuracy with the Phox?

It's a very quiet rifle, and the included moderator works a treat. 👍

Sorry missed your comment. It's a very good air tile, not scary at all. 😁

Hey Bro, do you know the sweet spot pressure? I'm getting a huma reg for mine and want to set that to the sweet spot. Thanks Bro.

Mine shoots pretty good all the way through but it's most accurate between 150 and about 80. Tbh I don't often go bellow 100. They are great workhorse rifles.

@@RealAirgunAdventures Thanks Bro,, I'll set the reg to 130 bar I think mainly cos any lower takes all day to pump back up. Its a cracking gun,, I'm also thinking of eventually making a wood stock.. Thanks again..

@Alien Scientist that'll be a Gamo Coyote. Probably better balanced though.

@@RealAirgunAdventures I have seen the stocks for sale for them but I wanted to make my own, with the same design as the phox,, I like the shape just not the black plastic stuff,, I've also got a lovely bit of wood to do it with..

@Alien Scientist That sounds great. I wouldn't mind seeing a pic, when it's done.
