    The way the old shields hug the inside of the pipe/pot and create the perfect container for fresh soil/compost while the newer shields hide the opening in the pipe is brilliant!

    I found this video to be absolutely helpful! I have been a plant collector for years and finally got a bifurcadum(sorry for the bad spelling) I mist mine since they are aroids but keep it in soil for now. Eventually, I would like to mount it but I am afraid lol. I see that thick inner sponge of the mother which holds the water for it and provides a base for all the shields to attach. My question is, does the plant need to be a certain size or age before we propagate or can we do this as soon as we see pups? I would absolutely adore one of Michael's staghorns!!! However, I am in the states and do not know if this poses a problem.

    • @redsoilgardener
      @redsoilgardener  Před rokem +2

      Hi Nicko, thanks for asking. Our veg and meat are usually packed in these plastic containers. So what i do is collect them and make hole, by heating a metal skewer and then make incision at the base. The great thing is some come with lids attached, so for quick propagation one can close the lids to create a greenhouse effect.

    • @redsoilgardener
      @redsoilgardener  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi, at 15 minutes, that medium is coco peat. It is obtained from Coconut husks that is ground down to different textures. Many gardeners in Kenya use it as a growing medium for seedlings because it allows easier root penetration it's has a great water holding capacity.

    you doing so wonderful job, but can you help me with advise, my all leaves about 10 or 12 were coming from the same spot and I found them yesterday on the floor, will they survive? There are two mother leaves around them, very small and I believe no roots. What do I do? Thank you.

    • @redsoilgardener
      @redsoilgardener  Před 2 lety

      Generally Staghorns lose their leaves as they grow but not in such large numbers. Are you overwatering or over misting the plant? Because though they are rain forest plants they need to go through periods of drying out.If there are two small leaves and no root, I think you may need to repot your plant.

    Can the staghorn grow from the leaf?

    • @redsoilgardener
      @redsoilgardener  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi Annette, I am not aware of leaf propagation. The three methods is through the spores on the underside of the leaf. Spores can be harvested and grown. Division of the plant as long as you have enough fronds and rooting in each section. Lastly, through harvesting the "pups'.
      I find harvesting the "pups" is easier and one gets a better success rate.
