I was very recently in Northwest Indiana, and saw some of the work being done at a grade crossing on Ridge Road in Munster, IN. It's very exciting to see infrastructure renewal/expansion taking place.
The South Shore Line is the Lone Survivor of Samuel Insull's Great Midwest Interurbans, while it's comrades, (The CA&E aka) The Great Third Rail and (The CNS&M aka) The North Shore Line fell, The South Shore Line (Formerly a part of the CSS&SB) still lives on Today and will hopefully live on in the Future.
@maas1208: I sure wished that the North Shore Line and the Chicago Aurora and Elgin could have been saved in the same manner as the South Shore Line!!! Unfortunately back in the 1950s and 1960s there was no transit agencies like NICTD, METRA, AND RTA.
Very interesting, thanks!
