Redfish are hands down one of the most exciting fish to chase on a fly rod, their willingness to eat and the wide variety of habitats they thrive in make them extremely unique. While interning for No Name Fly Lodge in Puerto Rico, I had the pleasure of meeting Mason Matejcek. Captain Mason to be exact. Mason was born and raised around the Texas Coast. He began guiding at age 18 and never looked back, he’s now 25 and is absolutely killing it out of the Rockport area. Mason invited me to Texas for who knows why, hell I should’ve been inviting HIM first. But somehow I lucked out, and we got the plane ticket immediately when the offer was in the air. He had a few days in between starting the heat of his guide season to spend it on the water, and we did just that.

Impressive! Literally just order my first fly rod to get in the game. I’ve Sight fished with spinning gear but the excitement level just buying the gear and flies is unrivaled so far at this point.
