  • Water Fountains are Healthier?
    Do you know cats have a low thirst drive? That’s because in the wild they get a lot of moisture from the food they eat. These days, cats in homes are often getting less water than they need for optimal health. Is a water fountain a good solution to this? Well, believe it or not, your cat’s ancestor evolved to seek out running water because it helped them avoid harmful bacteria present in standing water. Water fountains also provide new and fun sights and sounds for your cats! Watch this video to learn why you should consider a water fountain for your feline family members - and let them drink to their health!

    I’ve had fountains for my cats for years. Recently adopted 2 kittens. They were wary of the fountain, even though they watched our older cat happily using it. One way I got the kittens to use the fountain was I threw ice cubes in it. They reacted to the cubes as if they were fish (hunt able) and that got them getting used to the water. They are now champion drinkers.

      That's an awesome idea! I'll remember that once renovation is done on my kitchen/dining room is finished and I get my small house back! We got 2 kittens two months ago from our neighbors but, they're confined to our bedroom. Both wet and dry food because most cats like to nibble here and there throughout the day, plus they drink from the same huge stainless water bowl as my 2 Pitties, AND they have a ceramic bowl (both filled with Britta water), for when they're put into their "Cat Condo" for the night because they're still too little to be unsupervised while we're sleeping.
      My little girl Pittie, who had 1 litter of puppies in 2017, mothers them, and my big, chonky boy, Tank, gently plays with them and just chills when they climb all over him and chase his wagging tail. So, they're both in good hands and paws, lol.

Absolutely thrilling, I was always so proud of his ingenuity and handiwork ❤️😁❤️ The best part was that it was a 3/4 gallon container, so it eventually would cover almost the whole kitchen floor with a lovely cold puddle by the time anyone got home from school or work. I felt kinda bad having to take it away from him, but also kinda glad... he got over it when we just went and played with something else lol

    My beautiful girl absolutely loves her water fountain! She sits next to it and watching her is so cute! And the noise when she’s lapping up the water, I should record it to help me sleep because it’s quite hypnotic! 😂
    When she was a kitten and had a bowl of water, she wanted to drink from it but unlike dogs cats just don’t have ability to lap up a decent amount of water. Whereas the water fountain is perfect for her to sit there and drink to her hearts content. She’s had it for many years now and loves it.

    My boy is prone to UTI, and he is also a former stray (my vet told me that strays tend to drink less water as they rely more on food for hydration source.) I started mixing a warm water into his wet food until the food is more like stew, and it’s done wonders in keeping him healthy and hydrated!

According to the litter boxes, they are drinking lots more! Our water is from a deep well with no added chemicals so it tastes great!

    I started using fountains when my late Mikko was about 6 years old. He loved to splash and tip their water bowl and made a big mess. I figured if the water was exciting on his own, he might not do that. Partially right...except he liked to dunk toys in it! My other cat at the time, my Soren, would absolutely freak out when I would clean the fountain and would cry until it was back in its proper place and full.

    Love this! After speaking to my vet and then watching you, I put my adopted fur baby on a strictly wet food diet (foster mum had her on dry only). The only time she gets dry, is if I have to go up to LA (live in SD, bout a 3hr drive in light traffic) to make sure she's got food throughout the day. Those times, I noticed that she drinks a LOT from her water bowl. When she's on wet food, she drinks a little, but clearly gets most of what she needs from her food. Luckily, I don't have to go to LA often.

    • @tammyszu3570
      @tammyszu3570 Před 2 lety +2

      I noticed that too! At first I was so worried that all 3 of my cats +1 foster kitten didn't know how to drink water, but then I realized that it's because I dump 1-2 oz of water into their wet food and they get wet food 4xs a day so they're getting so much water already. They pee a lot and have hydrated poops so I guess they just don't need to drink from their bowls.

    I bought my two cats a flowing water device years ago. They love it, and as an RN, I believe that the flowing water is better....it's not stagnant. In the wild, big cats try to avoid water that is not moving, flowing water is safer. My boys first fountain "died", from old age, so I got them another one...it is a flower where the water flows out in a few streams from the flower. I like this one even better than the first one. The first one only had a slide that the water flowed down. My cats love flowing water so much, they jump up on the sink and drink the water from the faucet...I just have to watch where I spit out the toothpaste, since Maxi and Peanut are on the sink whenever I use the bathroom or kitchen sink. I will not buy a bowl where it sits all day in a bowl. I do not like water that has been sitting out all day. I think it is a good investment! ❤🌞

    Our Pollux got a blocked urethra when he was about 3. He had to stay in the animal hospital for 3 days while they ran fluids through him. The whole thing cost us $2700, and they didn't actually "cure" him...they said he could get another blockage at any time. So, we took him home. Took a few days to get him to function again. I was desperate to get him to drink water...he didn't want to...I assume because previously it had hurt to try to go...eventually, I started just dripping water from my fingers...he started kicking drops off. Then he stated drinking out of the running faucet...we switch to a fountain when we moved to an area with hard water, and both of the boys LOVE it!
