  • There are Islands all over the world Vern, what makes this one any different , special or unique?
    This Island of Zvërnec in Albania, has a complete and serviced Monastery ( Manastiri ) dating as far back as the 1300's, with the current building built atop the old site, being from the 1400's. This was a very small rock/brick building used for worship and getting closer to God. The Monks would also perform daily duties such as daily chores and up keep of the land and site.
    In this tour of the site video, you will get to experience the uniqueness of an Albanian Monastery site, with Greek and Roman influences throughout the design. The site is free of charge, with only a jar for suggested donations. So if you find yourself in Albania, take a walk atop the wooden bridge and stroll amongst the waterways to experience the past few places offer. Check it out!

      Totally agree Tommye! For all of the thousands of years of world history, we have little to show for it in written words. Thanks also!

    Vern you always have the appropriate music for the places that you visit. It makes them so much more pleasurable...EXCELLENT!

      Glad that music works, I really try to consider my audience when I choose the music. This last place, the wind was so extreme I had to use allot of audio tracks. I just have no idea if the music will work or not, being so unexperienced. I just run on intuition ;>) So thanks for the valuable input David, that made my day today! Cheers!!

    The tomb you see there is of Marigo Posio who also has a statue in Vlora and you show in another video: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marigo_Posio

      Ohh no kidding the two are the same, thanks for that as I would have never made the connection. That is so unusual that she was buried in a cemetery with monks. In my video I read her name but deleted that part out as I was also asking the question is "Margio a man or a womans name?".. But it was a woman buried there. I didn't think that would be the case in a cemetery with monks.. What a surprise to learn that info! WOW still surprised!!! Blew my mind!

    Never seen so much sea water under that bridge 🤣🤣 as never been there in winter. In summer, it's completely a different picture ❤

    • @HeyVernTravels
      @HeyVernTravels  Před 3 lety

      Oh really it is different then...interesting to know that the water level was high. Maybe because the strong wind was also bringing in more then normal?

    I especially liked the wooden bridge part and accompanying music.
    I walked to this site yesterday from Vlorë along the beaches and through the forests..,some road walking also . It was a great walk but I had much better weather than you.

      Thanks also! That is great , I wanted to explore more but it was bitter cold that day. Glad you enjoyed it. Did you walk or ride a bike there Bee Zee? The graveyard has a famous woman buried there. I forget her name, but I was also surprised to find her amongst the monks there in that place.

    Did you go to Mary's house in selcuk?

    • @HeyVernTravels
      @HeyVernTravels  Před 3 lety

      I didn't get there mostly because the place was found by someone in a dream or a vision, seemed kinda far fetched to me ;>) Was Mary in that town..yea... I believe she was, because of John the Apostle set to care for her in the town where he preached and set up his church . Also the island where he was exiled, Patmos... was nearby.

    hahaha you are not supposed to eat olives off the tree. They must stay in brine first so that some of the bitterness would leak out.

    • @HeyVernTravels
      @HeyVernTravels  Před 3 lety +1

      Ahhh hahaha I was never exposed to olive groves before or how to eat them lol. The olives here are very strong in flavor at the restaurants and markets. The black olives I get in the Philippines and USA and very mild and not so strong. Raw they are so bitter ;>)

      @@HeyVernTravels the bitterness is what makes them good for your health. Never buy olives that do not have some bitterness.
