    Well Annie all I can say is that here in the north of Scotland it has been a bloody miserable summer.

    Disappointing temperature wise??
    I'm loving it, the air feels fresh, skin is not itching from the heat and I can breathe without a blast from the inhaler.

      Absolutely. Autumn is my favourite season anyway.

      @matthewtrow5698 Před 22 dny +13

      Agreed - anything over 25c in the UK, especially if it's humid with low winds, is uncomfortable.
      I lived in a hot climate for 20 years, but it was a hot dry climate - high altitude, so 30c there was more like 22c here.
      Also, the houses and infrastructure were designed for warmer weather.
      One or two days of hot weather in the UK is manageable - but once we get to 3 and beyond, our houses heat up, the ground heats up and it's just horrible.

      Why do comments like this get so many thumbs up when they're completely untrue. The data shows this is nowhere near the coldest year since 1947 (that would be 1953). We've actually been warmer than average so far.

    • @gerardmackay8909
      @gerardmackay8909 Před 21 dnem +2

      @@RaRa-eu9mw people under the age of 40 have no idea what a cold summer is really like (seemingly permanently consigned to history). There were some absolute shockers in the 1950s and 60s and even the famous 1976 heatwave was followed by an awful June (1977) and cold Julys (78 and 80). Crowds at Wimbledon regularly wore coats it was often so cool. Something happened in the late 80s to change our weather patterns abruptly and icy winters became as rare as hens teeth and Mediterranean heatwaves (89, 90, 95, 97) became commonplace. Yes weather can still be bad and this year has been particularly awful in Scotland but not in the same league as 70 years ago (1954) when the temperature in the UK did not get above 25 the entire summer.

    • @TheTibmeister
      @TheTibmeister Před 18 dny +1

      The weather HAS changed since 1988. It has also got a lot windier. And the last time there was any really significant snow fall nationwide was in 2010. That’s fourteen years ago. Generally it seems to be much wetter in winter but milder. Yes there have been some low temperatures but i am old enough to remember when very cold temperatures in winter were normal.

    All of these Atlantic Lows are very depressing for us up here at 55.6N, 4W.
    Some have suggested that the Gulf Stream has, indeed, shifted North and is a contributory factor in the weather we are experiencing.
    What are the thoughts of The Met Office. Maybe Annie can tell us.

    It’s been an incredibly awful summer here on the Isle of Lewis, Western Isles of Scotland. The worst summer anyone can recall. Constant wind with heavy seas, cold, wet, and little sunshine. The stuck position of the Jetstream with the constant run of low pressure systems it brings has really impacted us this year. In fact there seems to be to have been a low pressure system anchored between us and Iceland since the start of June.
    Let’s hope September is a vast improvement.
