- A vintage cab ride video on the Wirral?Liverpool loopline from Liverpool Central to Hooton.
Quite soon after this video the line from Hooton to Chester was electrified to allow trains to run directly from Liverpool to Chester without changing. - Zábava
Love listening to the older rail folk and their memories of how and what they remember, crazy to think of the changes they have seen.
I commuted from New Brighton to Liverpool Central in the mid 1960s. I can still smell the unique odour of Liverpool Central (low level as it was then) and James St stations.
In those days it was possible to catch a through train from the Birkenhead Central terminus to Southampton. I think it was called "The Pines Express", if memory serves me correctly.
Love all the old rail footage it's priceless, thank you for posting this video a great watch .mikey Edinburgh
so interesting to see how the lines merged at Rock Ferry in my day one would have had to change platforms
This was cool, thanks for the ride!
Oh Stuart Mason, great man. His legacy lives on on the side of 507 023
Agreed. I wonder if his name will be transferred to the new trains?
I emailed merseyrail and merseytravel, they intend to give them to the owners/ relatives which would be in that case, his wife. All of the nameplates that don’t get returned will go off to an auction
Memories ... for some .. been a nice ride
I travelled from Chester to Birkenhead in the early 90s. I recall the wooden construction of stairs, lifts and booking offices at Birkenhead and Hamilton Square. I assume these must all have been replaced now for safety reasons.
Different. Thanks for sharing. 🚂
Around about that time I remember there was a band called 'Hooton 3 Car' !
There's an old railway that went to the docks after spital or before bromborough off that line which is now a path . It was a single up and down line .
The line you are thinking of branched off at Port Sunlight Station, it was a facing junction in the Chester direction. The line was double track as far as the bridge over the A41, then single track to Bromborough Pool where the docks were situated.
I've lived away from Merseyside for many years, but I've always thought James Street was the gloomiest station I've ever been in ; I can remember it's smell even now.
James St station was not as gloomy and depressing as Central Station.
Check out my James St video. It may be an eye opener. Thanks for watching.
There was also a James Street Station on the Liverpool Overhead Railway
James street has been modernised and it's a great station now. Was there on Saturday.
I was 20 then, 57 now 😬
Thanks! I do this run once or twice a week, Chester to Moorfields.
A nice longish journey to relax. Unless you are the driver.
@@GYRUSS Yeah. It's a big responsibility, being a train driver. I wanted to become a train driver, was doing well, passing the tests all except the colour vision test! So no train driving for me. 😃 Actually, I start my journey at 8.05am on the Wellington (Shropshire) to llandudno train and nip over the bridge to platform 7 at Chester.
Martin S along three coast?
My horse lives just past Hooton, he wouldn’t be born for another 15 years though 🤣
Do you have any footage of west Kirby or new Brighton lines?
No sorry
There is a somewhat cropped cabride on those lines here: czcams.com/video/dh1plj2a4V4/video.html, from a similar era to Gyruss' videos.
Was that on a class 508?
To be honest I’m not sure.
Still sounds the same
Apart from the clatter of bolted together rails.
