Delhi- Alwar , Khandwa-Akola, Indore-Ratlam ,and Miraj to Vasco-de gama (in 1991) , these are the routes I travelled in meter gauge trains .Mr Mani Vijay shared a number of great videos a great thanks to him too .
There were also Assam Mail from Barauni to Dibrugarh Town with 22 coaches and double engine , OT Mail from Guwahati to Lucknow and Guwahati Lucknow express ( GL). These trains were exclusive and also very important at that time.
Have travelled on Assam Mail many times. Used to change the train at Barauni. The broad gage Assam Mail used to stand on one platform and the meter gage on the other. There was a romance in train those days. Alas its all gone. Only memory remains. Thanks for the memories.
.....and Cachar express which ran through the Barak valley, a scenic and beautiful journey I remember till today in my eyes.... I travelled in it last time when 5-6 in 2014. I just remember those days..... (But it ran at the speed of an auto rickshaw 😅)
Riding in a meter gauge train back in 80s was a pure adventure. Remembering that December night in 1987, waiting for the Sethu Express at Vridhhachalam stn. when the headlight of the different sounded diesel loco was sighted from feeble to a brighter one as the train was pulled in and I entered the normal first class coach with greyish seat on it and was enjoying the sounds from tracks before falling asleep to discover myself at Rameshwaram.
I really feel so nostalgic you reminded me of my childhood bro, I was around 10yrs old year 1991 when I travelled in Pink City Express with my family from Old Delhi to Ajmer Sharif junction , ahh those old days it was my first ride in Chair Car coach the Livery was so sweet like candy , soft pink with cream border I remember a little the interior was really awesome likewise Shatabdi Express presently , everything sparkling clean I was always wondering why this train had been discontinued I got the answer after watching this video though I travelled a lot in different trains when grew up , but couldn't forget Pink City Express till today. Thank you so much brother 💖😊🤗💐 for sharing this beautiful info.. keep it up.. with lots of love from Kolkata India 🇮🇳
I am 58 now ,have travelled from Bengaluru to Mysuru and also from Bengaluru to Londa before the B.G conversion. This video made me recall that beautiful era . Life was not so hectic like today
Travelling by Vaigai, meter gauge was like traveling in non AC rajdhani. The train had that status in 80s - had the fortune of traveling by both Vaigai & Pallavan - the rakes would interchange each route - it would come into Egmore as Vaigai & leave as Pallavan, same way come in as Pallavan (from Trichy) and leave for Madurai as Vaigai - top class
Now my age 51, I travelled in coal engine trains, Diesel locomotive MG & BG trains and Electric Locomotive trains .... as passengers trains, Fast passenger trains, Express Trains, Super fast Express trains, Jan Shatabdhi express, Shatabdhi express and Rajdhani Express with GC, II sitting, SL coaches, I non AC, CC,3 tier AC and 2 tier AC In SR, during MG period, what Railway employees and Passengers discipline I observed , but not that much good during BG times.....till
V Nostalgic. I traveled on Old Delhi Jaipur Pink City Express in 1983..It used to run 3 days a week as Pink City Express and 3 days a week from Delhi to Udaipur as Garib Nawaz Express. Those days before the train entered Jaipur the Thar Desert used to stretch till that point and i distinctly remember seeing Peacocks just before the train entered Jaipur Jn. It was very fast indeed.
The Pink City Express used to pass through Patel Nagar Railway Station, and we kids used to stand at the Platform to see the train passing by at super speed with two dizel engines pulling the coaches. It was pure joy. Miss that.
I remember the MG Mahalaxmi express from Bangalore City to Miraj, exceeded 90 mph and covered that distance in about 14 hours as a day train. Brings back memories, thanks for posting
Feeling Nostalgic. I have travelled many times in the MG Pink City Express on Delhi-Jaipur route, and also in MG Vaigai & Pallavan Express in South in my school days I have also travelled in other MG trains from Chennai Egmore such as Cholan Express, Boat Mail (Rameshwaram Express) & Quilon Mail etc. It is true that the then Vaigai Express in MG, single-line, non-electrified diesel traction used to cover 498kms between Chennai & Madurai in 7hrs (depart at 6-50am at Madurai & arrive at 1-50pm in Chennai) and now takes 7hrs and 50 minutes on a BG, double-line, fully electrified traction. Similarly, the Delhi-Jaipur used to run between Delhi & Jaipur in just over 5hrs, on a metre gauge traction (Mostly used to depart about 5mins late at 5-55am at Delhi & arrive sharp by 11am at Jaipur), but now on a broad guage, electrified traction, it takes 4-hrs 30minutes, even by a Shatabdi Express, which is just about 30-35minutes less. There is nothing that can beat the charm and enjoyment of travelling on MG trains.
Great video, bro! Have travelled MG as late as in 2008 in the last remaining stretch of TN. Did Tenkasi-Punalur (With the lovely Aryankavu viaduct), Tenkasi-Tirunelveli, Madurai-Bodinayakkanur, Dindigul-Palghat Town, all over a stretch of few weeks before the sections closed down for conversion. The green YDM4s were at the helm everywhere!
Feels very nostalgic.Had traveled once long distance in MG from Sarai Rohilla to Udaipur by Chetak Express, and couple of times Ahmedabad - Udaipur overnight.
I witnessed the inaugural run of meter gauge Vaigai SF Express at Tambaram station on 15th August 1978. There was a straight line from perungalathur passing through Tambaram station. The new superfast express powered by YDM 4 thundered down the platform at 100+km/h. raising dust cloud
really amazing sir, i would love to hear more from you regarding this train, u can share ur story on my insta account or mail me. so that i can share the same to all of our viewers
I traveled a number of times in MG Lucknow - Guwahati Avadh Tirahut mail (AT mail). Previously, it was hauled by steam locomotive but from 1974, it started hauled by diesel (YDM 4) locomotive.
Main meter gauge train me bahut baar yatra kar chuka hoon in traino me broad gauge ki subhidha uplabdh thi year 2000. Tak ham is suvidha ka labh bihar ke Sonepur division me utha chuke hain aapki prastuti kafi achhi hai dhanyabad
A nice video to bring back many nostalgic tours . I travelled the Metre Gauge trains many time in different routes . After seeing this video I am pleasantly going back to those days . Thank you very much for showing this video.
i travelled many times in meter guage ajmer- ratlam-indore -khandwa-akola route, by fast passenger and meenaxi superfast exp, that was a amzing experience.
I have travelled in Vaigai/Pallavan Express and indeed it was a super star of its Metre Gauge time. Wish I could travel back in time and enjoy the journey once again
My all time favorite Vaigai express and Pallavan express , where both trains reach Chennai from trichy in 5 plus hrs covering 332km , both had beautiful livery coaches. They were the real kings of meater Guage trains 80s 90s
I have been lucky to travel in Metre Guage Ashram Express as a child. This train was Rajdhani Express of Metre Guage on Delhi Ahmedabad route, specially cream and red colored coaches and matching power to haul them. Pure nostalgia.
I have travelled in bhuj-naliya metre gauge line in 1998. One unique thing about it was that the train used to stop before every crossing; the driver would deboard and close the gates of the crossing and after the train crossed; the TTE at the back would open the gate of crossing! Also travelled in first class (non AC cabin) of metre gauge from Bhuj to Palanpur in 1998 and 1999.
Vaigai SF the pride. I used to travel. dust will fly in platforms. 100 kmph in ydm4 .that too under mg electrified section. YAM 1 max 75 kmph With mg chair car vestibule and always full running
Wonderful information. I remember travelling in the Miraj Bangalore meter gauge trains in the 1980s. Karnataka express became Kittur express and later after broad gauge conversion Rani Chenama express. Mahalaxmi express was the fastest on the route covering the 469 km from Bangalore to Hubli in 9 hours and 277 km from Hubli to Miraj in 6 hours being a complete day train without sleepers
Enjoyed the video of meter gauge trains. Nostalgia. I have also travelled on one route by meter guage- Aishbagh junction ( Lucknow) to Lalkuan junction (near Haldwani) in 2006.
witnessed vaigai express in 1993, the red engine with brown cream coaches..the class, terrific speed and the majestic looks were lost somewhere. Hope these legends could have been preserved.
What a unique video, well done, I was one of the lucky ones to have travelled in pink city express, beautiful onboard service. All I could remember is it was air cooled coach and the attendent kept closing my glass window as soon as I opened it
Main chhota thha tab pinkcity express me travel kiya karta thha with family kasam se meter gauge train itni cool thhi unki wooden seats diesel engine ki aawaz diesel smoke ki khushboo.station pe kulhad wali tea aut chane ki daal masale wali ufffff those were days ❤️
This video has kindled the nostalgic memories of my childhood when going to the Railway station and seeing the metre gauge train with the YP steam engines which were subsequently replaced by YDM diesel engines are still live in my heart. Even though, they were slow, we really enjoyed our travel in those trains. Thank you for this nice video.
Sunndar sir, if you like such videos there are few more videos on old MG trains, you will love to see those. As i am also a MG enthusiast and trying to revive the memories of those days.
Purna - Jaipur meenaxi express was one of the top long distance meter gauge trains. that route through vindhyachal mountains was a a great route. " 4 ka aakda" at Kalapani is still a great memory. I was a teenager then. had traveled from Purna to Ajmer and back on that meter gauge route. I am sure by now it must have been broad gauged.
Wow Looking this beautiful blog of mtguage train was flashback in my teenage mtguage traveling on SCR FROM MANMAD TO SECUNDRABAD FOR MANY TIMES, ALSO FTOM PURNAJN TO AKOLA HAD TRAVEL MANY TIMES ALSO HAD TRAVEL IN TRAIN PULLING BY STEAMLOCO ON THIS BOTH ROUTES. REALLY THOSE WERE GOLDEN DAYS
I have travelled in two of the three fastest metre gauge trains. Ashram Express and Vaigai Express. I have already shared my experience with Ashram Express in another post. The MG Vaigai Express introduced in 1977 was a fantastic train. Initially, it was only second class with 9 coaches but very comfortable with superior upholstery and interior panelling. It had tinted glass windows in second class. Catering was excellent. In 1990 AC Chair was introduced. Till 1996, it was end-to-end diesel as the maximum speed of YAM1 was only 85 kmph as against 105 kmph for a YDM4 . From 1996 to 1998, it was hauled by a YAM1 between Madras Egmore and Villupuram. The BG version was launched in 1999.
Those were the golden days we traveled by meter Guage. I remember traveling by Meter Guage train from Meeraj to Goa. Last I traveled by meter Guage train was in year 2001 from Udaipur to Ahmedabad it was an overnight journey.
Absolutely amazing facts with lovely pictures and videos. There used to be a few trains with even first class AC coaches. If I am not mistaken between Ashram Express and ADI Mail one of them had an AC first cum Second AC coach. We used to travel to Bikaner by 4791/4792 Bikaner Mail. Absolutely nostalgic and lovely memories.
Have travelled in meter gauge trains in early childhood .... but the journey that i clearly remember till now is the Solapur Gadag meter gauge train ..... that too with a steam engine !! Nostalgic and awesome experience it was....
Thanl u for the wonderful video. I did travel i Vaigai Exp 2 times and in Pallavan Exp once during Meter guage times. Advantage of Meter guage is, 100 kmph got a feeling of 160 kmph which really was very thrilling. These days Broad Guage though touces 130 still looks pretty normal.
Nice presentation, I am lucky enough as I have traveled both Pink City Express and Vaigai Express from Madurai to Egmore. Also I would like to bring it to all the viewers that as far as straight and leveled double line track passing through Gotegaon ( now Sri Dham) station falling under Jabalpur Div. As far one can see on any direction up or down the rail tracks seems to touch horizon, specially if viewed from foot over bridge in night, headlight of loco seems to be like candle light which magnifies gradually until train reaches and pass running through the small station. I have never seen such straight lines in my life.
My last MG journey was Ajanta Express between Kacheguda and Aurangabad on the Hyderabad-Purna-Manmad MG line. My most memorable MG journey was Hyderabad to Ajmer in 1991. This train took the historic Secunderabad-Purna-Akola-Khandwa-Mhow-Ratlam-Chittaurgarh-Ajmer route.

I travelled from Lucknow to Lalkuan Jn. in Nainital express in 2011! And i guess, at that time, that train was the fastest meter gauge train. It had 18 coaches with 2 AC 2nd and 1 AC First and 2 IZN YDM-4 Locos! That train was capable to reach 90-100kmph as well!
Boat Mail express.... indo - Ceylon express, is a combined train and ferry service connecting Chennai and srilanka in olden days and later runs between chennai and Rameshvaram via Chidambaram (main line)
I have travelled by the Ashram express from Old Delhi to Ahmedabad back in the 80s. It was a prestigious train on that route and the coaches used to really sway at triple digit speeds. The desert like terrain it travelled through ensured that your eyes, hair , face was all covered with a coating of sand. It was memorable and had a sense of romance that today's BG trains just cannot replicate
Am one of the lucky guys to have travelled both in Vaigai express and pallavan express. As a school going kid in Chennai, I used to ride my cycle to kodambakkam Railway Station just to see Vaigai express whiz past with its awesome honking diesel engine... Those were days
Southern railways is the only division in India that had electrified metre gauge lines. Our local trains were also metre gauge until 2003. The last remaining trains were the Tambaram rameswaram sethu express that was hauled by a YAM 4 until villupuram and then by a YDM 4 all the way to rameswaram. I never had the opportunity to travel on the MG vaigai / pallavan trains as my first journey on them were after it was converted to BG
In my childhood days when i used to travel porbandar (Birth place of Gandhi ji) we have to change train at viramgan from broad guage to meter guage... And experience of meter guage train was of another level and also it was hauled by steam engine which was added attraction to travel in meter guage train
Usey jab main bachpan may daudteh dekh mere rongte khade ho jate thaen aandhi ki tarah dhool udati hui daudi thi tej.
In my childhood days I had travelled to my native from kulem to andhrapradesh in meter gauge trains, double steam engines were attached as bankers from kulem to castle Rock,in 1995 or 1996 meter gauge services were stopped due to gauge conversion
Another historic long route meter gauge train was Meenakshi Express which used to run from Jaipur to Secunderabad, converting almost 1500 kilometers distance.

Nainital express Rohilkhand express very nostalgic n too many sweet memories with the train travelled for 7 years
This video has kindled the nostalgic memories of my childhood when going to the Railway station and seeing the metre gauge train with the YP steam engines which were subsequently replaced by YDM diesel engines are still live in my heart.
Via khandwa
I traveled in meenaxi express
From Akola to indore many times in my childhood last travel in 2008
Wow
Looking this beautiful blog of mtguage train was flashback in my teenage mtguage traveling on SCR FROM MANMAD TO SECUNDRABAD FOR MANY TIMES,
ALSO FTOM PURNAJN TO AKOLA HAD TRAVEL MANY TIMES ALSO HAD TRAVEL IN TRAIN PULLING BY STEAMLOCO ON THIS BOTH ROUTES.
Thanks for describing the story of Meter Gauze Trains🚆. Very Good discovery.👍👍👍
Those were the golden days we traveled by meter Guage. I remember traveling by Meter Guage train from Meeraj to Goa. Last I traveled by meter Guage train was in year 2001 from Udaipur to Ahmedabad it was an overnight journey.
Very Nice
Video
Purani Yad
👌🏻👍🏻
You are the best thank you for uploading a new type of video
travelled a lot in metre gauge train from chennai to madurai vaigai and pandiyan exp in 1980s....missing now
Absolutely amazing facts with lovely pictures and videos.
Are bohot safar kiya hai mai bhool nahi sakta in trains ko thank you very much bhai

Bahut khubsurat or lajawab journey thi is train ki i request you please one more video this track
Waah purani yadein taaza ho gayi 🚂🚃🚃🚃😊
Bahut hi achha laga aap ki jankari dhanyawad Bhai Ji
Bahut hi badiya...aaj ke time me en trains ki koi baat hi nahi karta h
I travelled from Lucknow to Lalkuan Jn. in Nainital express in 2011! And i guess, at that time, that train was the fastest meter gauge train. It had 18 coaches with 2 AC 2nd and 1 AC First and 2 IZN YDM-4 Locos! That train was capable to reach 90-100kmph as well!
Students from pantnagar University used to board that train
I also travelled by that train which was also very fastest train
Lalkuna to Agra fort kumaiyu express BHI APNe time table ke liye famous Rahi hai
I remember those golden days. I have travelled in Pink City MG express in early 90s.
Very detailed and informative nice video. Thrilled to know about Vaidehi Express and Pahalwan Express trains of South India.
Vaigai not Vaidehi. Pallavan not pahalwan. Vaigai is a river runs through Tamilnadu n Pallavas are rulers in South India.
Boat Mail express.... indo - Ceylon express, is a combined train and ferry service connecting Chennai and srilanka in olden days and later runs between chennai and Rameshvaram via Chidambaram (main line)
I was lucky to travel by Vaigai Express during the late 80s. Awesome kickass train! 🚊
Dhanyawaad in anmol yaado ko taaza karne ke liye
Have travelled in Pandyan Express ..Madurai to Chennai Egmore..in 1986..
Bahut hi Achi lagi apki.video
I have travelled by the Ashram express from Old Delhi to Ahmedabad back in the 80s. It was a prestigious train on that route and the coaches used to really sway at triple digit speeds. The desert like terrain it travelled through ensured that your eyes, hair , face was all covered with a coating of sand. It was memorable and had a sense of romance that today's BG trains just cannot replicate
How much time it took?
I like ur vlog .i travel meter guage from Miraj to Hubli from 1991 to 1994. After that in 1996 broad guage start
Have travelled from Trichy to Banaswadi(Bangalore) in 1990s. It was amazing to see those trains with normal speed. Miss them.
Meenakshi Express,Jo Hyderabad se Jaipur chalti thi,woh toh miss kar di aapne
sir, vo train special thi, jald he uski details b abailable hogi yha
In my childhood days when i used to travel porbandar (Birth place of Gandhi ji) we have to change train at viramgan from broad guage to meter guage... And experience of meter guage train was of another level and also it was hauled by steam engine which was added attraction to travel in meter guage train
There was also Somnath express - Ahmedabad to Somnath.
Usey jab main bachpan may daudteh dekh mere rongte khade ho jate thaen aandhi ki tarah dhool udati hui daudi thi tej.
I remember seeing the Ashram Express at Abu Road station, it had a Rajdhani livery and (I think) had a 1st AC as well.
Yes I have travelled in MG trains from Mathura to Lucknow many times till year 2001
In my childhood days I had travelled to my native from kulem to andhrapradesh in meter gauge trains, double steam engines were attached as bankers from kulem to castle Rock,in 1995 or 1996 meter gauge services were stopped due to gauge conversion
Thanks for the lovely information ❤️🤠

Travelled in Vaigai Express from Chennai to Madurai in 1989. and used to start at noon around 12.15pm

Another historic long route meter gauge train was Meenakshi Express which used to run from Jaipur to Secunderabad, converting almost 1500 kilometers distance.
