I just heard the sad news that Börje Salming past away. Thank you for all great memories. You always played 100% and with always high standard. We will never ever forget you. Rip
Receives 200 stitches, returns to practice 3 days later “Could’ve been worse, my eye was still there, so I was happy about that” He’s a true hockey player 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lm half Swedish and really learned to love hockey in Sweden and I remember Börje Salming's last World Cup in 1990. I cried like a baby when they showed his ceremonial puck drop on a Hockey channel in the US and when he was battling ALS. Salming was one in a few million with the right mindset, physics, talent and determination. Like Salming said "Sometimes hockey has no nation" (During standing ovations by Canadians and Swedes in the Canada Cup in 1976) and for a true Hockey lover, that is always the case! Salming was loved by the whole Hockey world back then and now!
Rest in power, Börje. Such of the greatest player in the Maple Leafs organization in the 70s & 80s. My condolences to his family, fans, and as well his teammates at the most difficult time. 💙🇸🇪🏒
I rarely cry these days, but when I heard about this while watching my Swedish team play I couldn't hold it in, it was very difficult watching the rest of the game after I got these news. I love that when the second period was about to start in all the games in SHL had a silent moment before starting the second period, it was a very beautiful and sad moment. R.I.P, Börje!
R.I.P. Borje Salming (1951-2022)🕊 You truly were an amazing Hockey player and paved the way for European Hockey players. Condolences to the Salming family as well as Borje’s friends, teammates and loved ones during this difficult time❤️
RIP to a legend that inspired many, many that pursued this wonderful sport and gave Europeans inspiration and a chance, sad to see him go. May he lay and rest and rest in peace.
Paved the way for europeans now playing in Nhl. Guy was pounded night after night and kept coming. He was a pioneer in that way if he had folded and quit who knows. Legend for sure.
Börje Salming, on a par with Bobby Orr in skill, on a par with Johnny Bower in my heart. He let no opponent overwhelm him and now he is proudly standing up to ALS. Thanks for your inspiration Börje! Be well.
In the begining of 20t century i worked in Morby Centrum outside of Stockholm. Sometimes on the lunch me and some of my colleauges used to go to SATS for an hour or work.out. One time i sat and made leg curl 150 kg or something and on my left side there was an older guy who lifted more then double then i did. And it it was a thin well trained guy .i could see vein on his legs, the skin was melted on the muscle. Dammed that was though guy and when i looked at him i saw it was Börje Salming... I Left the curl machine at once :-)
Haha.. I just want to let you know that century-thing is confusing to some Swedes because translated we speak in Swedish of the century it's in. Like the 16th is actually in the 1600's. Personally I think it's f*cked up it's not like that in English.😊
This man right mean EVERYTHING for Swedish hockey! he is a symbol for every Hockey kid from the day he came to NHL to present day in sweden, the rest of swedish legends own this man alot as Forsberg said! to took the word Chicken Swede and show it down the North American haters back then!! even the rest of Europe has a lot to thanks Börje! he was born in a Steel mining city Kiruna! we use to say over here people of North North sweden are made by steel! i as a kid grown up in North North sweden and yeah we did play land hockey we have snow and winter 9 month a year! so noth much to do!!
I don't know why, but it annoys me that Lidström doesnt pronounce Börje the way its pronounced in swedish but rather uses the north american pronunciation.

En legend! R.I.P Börje Salming
Rest in peace, Borje ❤️
And this man is so humble, friendly, respectfull, down to earth and tough at the same time. A Swedish hero.
Also a hero in Canada, especially in Toronto.
Im from Sweden
Today we were reached by the news Börje passed away. R. I . P
REST in power, King
RIP Mr Salming! What a player and nobody tougher. Physically was the strongest player on the Leafs at that time. Borje you will be missed
Rest in peace Borje. The Maple Leafs in the 1970s surely wouldn’t have been the same without you.
They would've been a lot better if Jacques Lemaire hadn't banned us from making the finals. He's the worst Leaf killer of all.
He surely was. He was just like Mike Milbury of the Islanders, except before him. Just an abysmal era of Leafs hockey.
@@BTG077 I'm glad someone else believes that Lemaire is worse than Ballard. It's no wonder Lamoriello hired him in 1993.
A true legend. Thank you for your contributions to hockey, Mr Salming!
Tack för allt Börje. Du är för alltid inskriven i hockey historien.
RIP Borje the tough one Salming ❤️❤️
2:37 now how is that not one of the best assists in NHL history.
2:33, so you can actually see the play. It is amazing!
Ridiculous pass.
Pettersons last year was so much better tho.
Absolutely one of the best🙏
....he spun and passed it. I don't see what's so special about it
RIP Maple Leaf Legend
R.I.P Börje Salming :(
Still the king here in Sweden :)
Always will be King in Toronto
Still a legend in Toronto.
The king
From where is originally this player exactly? I can't find much about his biography
RIP to a legend of the game.
RIP King Salming
Borje is from Kiruna, way north of the arctic circle. To even assume he wasn't tough, is an insult.
RIP to a legend that inspired many, many that pursued this wonderful sport and gave Europeans inspiration and a chance, sad to see him go. May he lay and rest and rest in peace.
True freaking legend!
Paved the way for europeans now playing in Nhl. Guy was pounded night after night and kept coming. He was a pioneer in that way if he had folded and quit who knows. Legend for sure.
RIP to the King.
“From his first game Borje Salming was tested. They pushed, he pushed back.”
Brings a tear to my eye.
Now you can finally rest in peace Börje...💜 🌺 🙏🏻 🌺 💜
Best shot blocker ever
ONE OF MY IDOLS
One of the best Leafs of all time
Salning - an immortal legend. Due to Ballard's evil he never got to smell Lord Stanley. Put him him Philly arond 82-87 and they have a cup.
And I thought Lameoriello was bad.
Best defenceman in Leafs history.
Phaneuf?
Dr. Aisaitl
U high
@@JackCallSports Sorry, Brett Lebda was the best
Tim Horton was better, and is ranked higher in the Hockey News 100 greatest defenceman (12 to Salming's 22)
@@Mac3622 Neither Lebda nor Horton had to take the tremendous abuse Salming had to take though.
One of the best in Blue and White
Definitely. Salming is a Leafs legend.
Salming was an amazing player. THere is absolutely no doubt about that.
RIP…..you’ll be missed!
Grew up watching Salming. Every Saturday night (well, the majority of them, anyway).
One of the best Leafs ever!!
Rip to a legend
Legend!💪💪👍👍
Börje Salming, on a par with Bobby Orr in skill, on a par with Johnny Bower in my heart. He let no opponent overwhelm him and now he is proudly standing up to ALS. Thanks for your inspiration Börje! Be well.
My intent with “Be well”, was that if anyone can be well in spirit through this awful disease, it will be Borje Sallming.
RIP
Fracking legend. Awesome vid
What a great pLayeR,a legenD.
Bring old school hockey back!
one of the greatest ever
Legend
RIP BÖRJE
Great job. Great Life. God Bless.
Rest in peace legend Börje!
This guy reminds me of Rocky Balboa for some reason
Maybe it's the persistentness
Same i think
His place in the IIHF's Team of the Century speaks for itself

Rest in piece, Maple Leafs Legend, Borje Salming
Legends never die. The king is dead, but his legend will live for ever! 💙💛
He always has a place in A.I.F Kiruna aswell
I believe anti-European bias prevented Borje from winning a Norris trophy.

Ive seen him a couple of times at my local supermarket :D He looks healty and fit to be around 70 years old.
@llx Yep :(
Rest In Peace Börje!
May he rest in peace.
Vila i Frid Börje!
why did his assistant captain ‘A’ have that line over the top like this Ā ?
Sad to see Börje go
Peter Forsberg is the best player of all time, but Borjes career is indisputable! As a Swede I have to chose between them for obvious serors
Lidström is the best Swedish player of all time. His value on a team is unrivaled.

Jag fattar inte varför din brorsa Stig åkte över. Han var ju lika bra som du!
Inte åkte över, ska det vara. Jag hade verkligen unnat dig Börje och Mats Sundin en Stanley Cup seger.
From what town is he originally?
Kiruna
Superman, and... he is a Swede!
How do you pronounce his first name?
Be - or- eaha

Börje! Such a shame the English alphabet lacks three letters...
Most of my hut team is in the nhl top 100. Just learning about them.
Inte den bästa svennen någonsin men en av de bästa.
Not the best sweed ever but one of the best.
@isseboi Perhaps not, but he was a pioneer. Not many would've had the courage Salming had.
