This song is the exact moment the 80s became the 90s.
CORRECT!
Heart of Glass - 70s to 80s. Groove Is In The Heart - 80s to 90s.
Couldn't have said it better!
what a fine way to put the match to the gas. this was literally ringing in the 90s, right F here kids.
This is it - the perfect comment.
This was the best part of the night in the clubs when it came out.
Oh hell yeah! And at the after-parties(a lot were at my house) when the clubs closed. EVERYONE DANCED! Not like the way it is(was before corona) now, from what I have heard. Those were such good times, good times😁
Damn right it was !!!!!
Yup
this was very, very NYC club scene.. Everyone else was just trying to follow along lol
side note: Michael Alig OD'd on Christmas morning of this last year.. If you remember the NYC club scene then you know who Alig was
Lady miss kier was a go go dancer before she started singing. That's why she has such fine dance moves
Even as a young Metalhead I loved this song LOL I didn't care if my buddies messed with me. The songs got a lot of feeling
@Daniel G Well said brother
Same here. Haha
You mean it's got a lot of groove 😏
Same here. Construction worker. Led Zep fan. Still have to dance to this whenever I hear it. 😂
Almost every single metalhead I know, even the most comical take themselves too seriously even love this song.
Look closely and you will see Bootsy Collins, Q-Tip, and Maceo Parker.
Bootsy and Maceo were band members of James Brown...the baddest man to ever do it...

It’s all on the 1 Baby
I thought that was Mr. Qtip i heard! Too small on my phone to see him, but the flow was unmistakeable
That guy was QTip from A Tribe Called Quest. Sing it baby
Bootsy !
@@sharondianneb She's talking about the rapper (Q-Tip). But yeah, the dude playing the bass in the video was Bootsy Collins.
i couldn't dance with another!
Bootsy on bass, Q-tip on bars
Not to mention the great George PARLIAMENT Clinton was the producer. You know if bootsy is around funkidelic George is there.
This is the term three New York City DJs got together and decided to make an album and it was fabulous! Certainly helps that they grabbed Q-tip from tribe called quest and Bootsy Collins for this.❤️
Bootsy is a pure legend.....
Hides Sade's pillow so she doesn't get jealous...dying! LOLOLOL
He did same thing when he listened to blondie’s “rapture”....I was in tears. Amazing lol
Play this tune, everyone gets on the dance floor! (FACT) 🇬🇧
Facts!
I always play this bass line during sound check before live shows and it even gets the punk rockers dancing.
Same here 🇧🇷
@@TheVIVIZZZ. Super cool. 🇬🇧
it was chosen the best dance song of all time
Who ever the hell requested this.....thank you! Such a damn good song. Great job Mr Video 👏
for some reason ive been hearing this song a lot recently. seems its having a resurgence
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💪💪🏿🔥
"He's not vicious or malicious, just delovely and delicious. " 😂
I had no idea she said delovely 🤣 I thought it was 'lovely'
😂😂😂
Love that line!
Cole Porter invented the word "de-lovely".
I couldn’t ask for another!! Uh huh uh huh!!
Lady Miss Kier is one of the most under rated artists ever . loved Dee- lite for over 30 years now lol
I remember this song. Who here feels old 😂😂
Me!!! Especially after I found out it came out in 1990.... wasn’t that like only 5 years ago! 😂😂 I hate doing the math now. Lol
Nothing makes me feel young like this song.
🙋♀️
LOL...me, too - but I’m not admitting it! 💃🏼🕺🏽⚡️🎶🔥
This song is timeless, always feel like I felt when it came out, never older
Any song with a cameo by the funkeist man alive Bootsy Collins is alright by me
Proud to say Bootsie is from Cincinnati
Me..a huge Bootsy fan!!
Munchies for your luv,as well
What so never the dance!!!!
Saw him play with George Clinton in a la la palooza tour. Beasty Boys and Smashing Punkins were the head liners but wow ! bootsie was all over in his tutu and huge star glasses.
Keep the party going with "Pump Up The Jam" by Technotronic and C&C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat" and Snap's "I've got the Power"
Oh man, "I've Got the Power" is _so_ damn repetitive. I'm all for some "Pump Up the Jam" though.
Next.
You just named the main theme song to 146 movies.
No Limits by 2Unlimited
Y E S !!! lets not forget KLF!!!!
The 'comment' brother with the star glasses & bass is not a Dee-lite member, he's a friend/guest-star Bootsie Collins, a pioneer of funk, and in his early youth, alumni of James Brown. There is no one on the planet with more groove in the heart.
And don't forget Q-tip!
In the early 90s there was a surge of 60s/70s style. This was a big hit. One of my favorite songs, actually. You can not keep from dancing.
I loved my platform go-go boots!
True dat! And I don’t even like dancing...
If you didn’t dance to this joint back in the day, you were dead 💀
He'll probably deny it but this was my nephew's favorite song. He would groove his little heart out in his playpen whenever my sister played this song. He's 30 now. 😄
I knew you would love this! Anyone who can sit still during this song isn't fully human! It is just pure joy!
The first retro fashion video...
She revived it all!
Yes, she brought the 60’s back to the 90’s.
Clubs used to go nuts when this thing came on. People running to the dance floor, spilling drinks on each other. Absolutely love this song!!! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Thanks MV, you made my day....
The "Deee-lite panic" at the disco:)
I love how when he likes a song he puts his whole body into dancing to it
Made in the 90's, the 90's were 30 years ago, and the song has a definite 60's vibe, and the 60's were 30 years before the 90's, and I find that interesting. There were some real 60's inspired music in the 90's, besides Dee-Lite, Smash Mouth and the B-52s come to mind.
Once we get out of the 80s, the 90s are going to make the 60s seem like the 50s.
Us Gen X-er's didn't know what to do with ourselves sometimes :D
Proud X-er! Some of the best music came out when I was in my late teens and early 20’s!
@@venessalee2426 The very best!
Midnight Naked Bungee Jumping was invented for exactly that reason. I've still got the burn scars from the harness.
@@stevegyles3190 ouch
@@venessalee2426 same here. Great rock music. Bands.
I think we all needed this pure joy today!!
This dude should be at like 5 million subscribers..says what he thinks and feels and isn't afraid to tackle any genre and song from any decade
I remember when this came out (I was in college) and it was one of those songs that everyone liked even if they wouldn't admit it. I was in a thrash band as the time (I've been a studio/session musician for over 30 years) and we would all make sure no one was looking and dance around like idiots. Good times. ;-)
Doctor: I'm afraid we found a groove in your heart.
Mr. Video: I know, I was listening to Dee-Lite earlier.
😐😀😁😂🤣🤣🤣🤩
It was in the nineties I believe just retro hippie psychedelic mode🤔😉🥰
Yup, 1990. It was around the time hair metal was dying and the younger generation was looking for the next trend. 1990 was kind of a transitional year in music.
My best friend hated this song. I loved it. So I sang it to her on a regular basis. That's what friends do!
"Groove is in the heart... Not the tendons."
You, my friend, are awesome. Have a dee-liteful day 😊
LOVE SHACK by the B52's!!! So much fun!! Who's down??
Hell Yeah 💃🏻
Sadly, there is no more Dee-Lite. They are your classic 90's one-hit wonders.
maybe 3 hits wonders. (Power of Love, Good Beat, Runaway)
This whole album is great!
They had 4 hot albums and a few remix compilations. They were always played in the Clubs. former 90s DJ here.
Ya dude 4 great albums...this isnt even thier best tune imo
Thanks to members of the Dee-Lite Fan Club for your replies. 😆 For real though- I am truly glad that you enjoy them. That said, when it comes to the general consensus & for the purposes of Mr. Video doing a video reaction, I stand by my original comment.
It is a shock to realise this song is 30 years old - it is still fabulous!
My best friend was obsessed with this song when it came out. She would play it over and over and over. Such a fun song and memories.
YES!!!! Bootsie Collins!!! what a jammmm!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Legend of funk
Time for "love shack"
Knock a lil louder, sugar!!! 🤣
Maan , just thought of them !!! And some Madness !
"RAVE SCENE 90S" still with the 60s spirit but we had a different soundtrack that's all, this became a bit commercial but still popular in the clubs.as always leo cool reaction ; )
I get addicted to watching her dance sometimes. I dont even think bad thoughts, even though she is very alluring. It's the pure joy. The way she radiates her beauty is in being so alive, it gets me good. I think she could win a hip contest vs shakira also.
Man, there’s a bunch of those 90s club/dance songs that you would love. Same kind of energy and fun. Here’s some:
Pump Up the Jam - Technotronic
Rump Shaker - Wreckx-n-Effect
Gonna Make You Sweat - C+C Music Factory
Everybody Everybody - Black Box
Omg c and c music factory was my jam when I was young! My childhood best friend and I would listen to it, jumping on beds, singing a long! “It’s your world and I’m just a squirrel trying to get a nut to move your butt to the dance floor” one of my favorite lines.
But they got in trouble because the woman who sings the female part was not allowed to be in the video because she was “fat”.
@@lilkatdevil And everyone thought the dude singing was Ice T! 🤣
@@Kim-hc5si omg so many crazy things... like didn’t marky mark also get in trouble for it, and then you have the lip singers.... oh what were their name?
@@lilkatdevil Yep, she was one of the Weather Girls of “It’s Raining Men” fame.
Pump Up The Jam was well done and ahead of its time, its actually 80s. So many good samples in that song.
Shit got real, when this came on at my high school dances in the 90's
Truth!
Agreed!
This is one of those songs that never really gets old
I remember when this video came out. I was like wtf? Now all these years later I'm still like Wtf? But the song does grow on you...like a wart. Lol
a song i can never skip when it comes on💃🏻
Parliament Funkadelic “Flashlight”. Time to graduate to the next level.
yesss! exactly!
The groovy part of the 90's. You need to watch KLF: "Justified and ancient" =)
Last Train To Trancentral (czcams.com/video/pC_zffOenk8/video.html ) is an absolute banger as well.
Wow klf. That's an obscure reference, even for its time.
@@DiLacquaFace time out😊
@@DiLacquaFace maybe in the States. Still legendary in the UK
I love how your mouth literally fell open when she started singing! Haha...you're the best! I love it when you dance too

She is. I love that she maintained her underground coolness even with global success.
Well hell, son! They said right at the start! "We're going to dance. We're going to dance... and have some fun."

Full length version PLEASE!
damn i haven't even thought of that song in 20 years. i see what i'm listening to next.
I was standing right in front of one of the main speaker stacks on the dancefloor in the infamous "Limelight" club in NYC in 1990 when the DJ debuted this song for the first time, and the air compression from the bass literally pushed my clothes outward with every beat. The crowd went NUTS over this tune, and within about 8 bars into the song I was dancing with a random smoking hot babe, grinding into each other and makin out right in the packed crowded dancefloor. Never even got her name, we didnt have cell phones back then, and I never saw her again, ... just a moment. I was 20 years old. How could I ever forget those moments, I remember it vividly?
I have always loved this song and the video. It’s fun! So funky and so cool. It just makes want to dance.
Someone mentioned Parliament/Bootsy Collins....If you don't know classic Funk like Flashlight....you MUST do that!!! When you bust into funk....Parliament and the Ohio Players are it!!
Ohio Players are almost completely overlooked in reactions, and they’re one of best funk bands ever. “FIRE” live on Midnight Special is one of the greatest live performances ever!
Please listen to parliament funkaedlic/Flashlight/knee deep/
Guy sportin' a man bun 30 years before it was even a thing.
The whole band was way ahead of their time.
You mean a top knot. It was a thing in the ancient samurai days.
How was this 30 years ago.
@@kr9807 Groove is in the heart was released August, 1990.... that's 30 years... Time flies!!!
Another great one from 1990 - that pairs nicely with this - is: The Divinyls ‘I Touch Myself’! It’s a fun song... and yes, the title means what you think it means 😁
OMG HELL YEAH PLEASE DO "I TOUCH MYSELF" Or Toucha Toucha touch me
What I find exciting is when you enjoy the music that we adore so much and you can shake it up at home and get excited about it. Love it.🥰
The bass player, Bootsy Collins, is Snoops uncle. You never got to George Clinton & the Parliament yet... are you ready though?
Yep ❤️❤️❤️🥰
Good call out....Can da bro handle 'Flash light'
Bootsy and Snoop are not actually related as family, though they have collaborated on things together.
Not his real uncle dude
He needs funkentelechy or mothership connection imo
Lady Miss Kier made me realize at a young age that I was also very much into girls as well as guys 😂 Still madly in love with her 20+ years later!
She had that effect on me too
I'm a guy and I have to watch her dance every now and again. Haven't had an inappropriate thought yet, she's just magic and so alive.
Jamiroquai - Canned Heat
Young adults in the 90s were fascinated with the 70s. We remembered the music, the fashion, and the lifestyle, but were unable to experience it as our parents had. The first time my best friend and I went out together, back in 1994, was to 70s Night at a club downtown. I wore pink satin hot pants, and she wore a glittery black dress with spaghetti straps. It was a magical night that I will never forget! 💖
U dancing on ur couch is me in my car.... every.damn.day 💃🏻
Early 90s babydoll dresses an tabs 😂😂 I ain’t the only one either 🤷🏼♀️🤣🤣🤣
You know who you are 😑😂😂😂😂
I just remember bell bottom Cars jeans and loots of glitter
70s knock-off. This was the 90s. In the 80s, young people looked back to the late 60s, and in the 90s, they borrowed elements from 70s pop culture (and people like Bootsy Collins). I was a little girl in the 70s. But we also had hip-hop by the 90s, so that got mixed in, too.
Actually, in the 80's people looked back to the 1950s/
@@pyrovania I would posit that the 50s were revived in the 70s. Grease, Sha Na Na, Happy Days, American Graffiti... It makes sense, people who were teens in the 50s got nostalgic in their thirties, etc., etc., etc. When the Sgt. Pepper album had its anniversary in 1987, the late 60s fashions and the retrospectives on the music, etc. came back, at least where I was in the Midwest.
This song was played so often that its rhythm made it an earworm every time I hiked drunk home after a night out.
Ah, nostalgia.
Can’t sit still to this one
I think you came up with another saying. “I’m in a pillow relationship”. Great shirt for single people.
Hilarious
Yeah, I think he said, "Pillowlationship." LOL
Mr. Video has been changing our vocabulary!
@@cheryljackson5659 a shirt needs to be made with what he said. Too good not to. Hope he sees this.
@@helenadelossantos5424 it looks like he's got a call for some merchandising!
The early 90s had some wild tunes, that haunted us into the mid-90s, as amusement-park ride music. This one, "Pump Up the Jam," and a couple of others hung-on that way, until the 90s hippies and grunge came along to overshadow them.
uhm, i'd say the 90s dance music crowd WERE the hippies.....
@@stefanforrer2573 There was overlap, but there was definitely a hippie style-revival, especially in coastal BC, where the old-growth forests were (and still are) in the headlines.

Thank you Leo,I requested this 😉✌
Munchies for your luv
Thank you Connie 🤗💃🏻✌️
I miss the 90’s!
My wife and loved this song when it came out. Rule of the day: Play it Loud!
This came out in 1990. The band liked to dress in "groovy" clothes (mostly of the 60's & 70's era). This song was a staple in most nightclubs back in the 90's - everyone was on the dance floor when the DJ put this into his mix. Fun times!
The pimp you call him is Bootsy Collins is Legendary basses who played for 2 Legendary groups Jame Brown & Parliament + has had a great solo career. If you choose to check him out since you like strange funky beats check Roto Rooter 1977. FYI he still making music 11/20' he relased a new lp. if you want to check it out. 1 of the songs has a feat. with Snoop Dogg called Jam enjoy.
This song is like The Prodigy Breathe, a masterpiece.
OMG yes , need some reviews done on that ...

The b-side 'What Is Love' was an underground banger.
This song reminds me of another great song called "I See You, Baby" by Groove Armada. It's a stripper favorite.
The chorus; "I see you, Baby. Shaking that ass, shaking that ass"
Oh man that is a throwback for sure
Groove Armada were great, I still really like their song Superjet (If This Ain't Love)
