- Always trust your Filipino Manong!! In this case it was Manong Dodoy, who I just met with Therine when we decided to go island hopping off the coast of Guimaras in Western Visayas!
Manong was AMAZING. He took us all around the coast safely, and with such a beautiful attitude! The weather may have been bad at times, but the experience and islands were incredible! We ended up exploring a part of the Philippines called "Taklong Island National Marine Reserve". I would love to see this area in the summer when the water is relaxed and the sun is shining. Definitely did not expect such beauty here in Guimaras!
So many protected islands... LEAVE NO TRACE!

Yo...I also thought so...as a kid I often heard from my father (they come from Negros Occ. And I was born in La Carlota) the name Guimaras, how sweet the mangoes there and in fact we have a Guimaras proned mango tree .(60yrs. Old) in our front yard and still bearing fruit. They have not said that the province is beautiful and have many islets. Thank you for the geography lessons...again.

We used to go there when I was in high school at the University of the Philippines Iloilo. We go there for our biology and botany school excursion. My dream is to buy an island there someday... Dreams are free anyway.
Its one of the protected islands of the country, its a fish sanctuary .

growing up as a child in the 70s in barrio magamay, nueva valencia (guimaras), the whole fam would go on a beach outing on a nearby sandbar we called "pasil" from time to time and although we had paddle boats, most of us kids would walk besides the boats through and between these islets and mangroves for a couple miles towards the sandbar when it was low tide. oh how i wish we had modern phones and cameras back then to share those times.....awesome! my uncle had a motorized boat about twice the size of that boat you rode on and we would go island hopping right after the family outing. on a clear summery weather day, those waters are crystal clear just like the other exotic islands around the philippines.

especially the mangoes....other mango species from outside the island are prohibited to be planted there, only the ones indigenous to the province.
