Nichelle Nichols (born Grace Dell Nichols; December 28, 1932)[3] is an American actress, singer, and voice artist. She sang with Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton before turning to acting. Nichols played communications officer Lieutenant (later, Commander) Uhura aboard the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek television series (1966-1969), as well as the succeeding motion pictures. Nichols's role was groundbreaking as one of the first African American female characters on American television not portrayed as a servant.[4] She also worked to recruit diverse astronauts to NASA, including women and ethnic minorities. - Wikipedia

Rest in peace Ms. Nichols, you will always be loved and remembered by millions.
Everything Nichelle said came to pass. The shuttle was used to build the International Space Station. One of the mission specialists who constructed the station was engineer Stephanie Wilson, a Black NASA astronaut.
Cool story. Got any footage of the ISS being built in a Second Law of Thermodynamics violation called outer space?
She got this job because she challenged NASA in regard to hiring people of different sexes, races and colours. She went to universities to seek out students in the sciences who would be interested in working for NASA.
Uh huh, sure. Just look how “qualified” Kamala is, or press secretary Karine, you think she’s “qualified” too?
Only a few reasons why those two clowns got the job, and it has nothing to do with their so called abilities. Just because of who you are, doesn’t mean that you’re actually qualified for the job. 😂
Wokeness is murdering our country, period.
I saw her talking about that and she got into the ear of the head of NASA and he was the one who got her into this and she helped NASA out tremoundously to diversify and bring more people into the world of space and space exploration.
NASA is one of the largest grifting operations of all time. Outer space travel is obviously utter nonsense.
Ms. Nichols was the greatest communications officer of the US space program. I’m grateful to have lived during her time.
What a segway
Rest In Heaven Nichelle Nichols and thank you for the amazing Star Trek memories!!!!
She's literally opening the hailing frequencies for aspirants.
RIP NIchelle Nichols. LLAP. She will never be forgotten. She, Nichelle, might be gone, but Lt. Uhura lives on forever and ever, beyond infinity.
Nichelle Nichols host with Alan Bean! Woah! Groundbreaking! Bravo NASA! Please name some future spacecraft after her.She did a great job for recruiting.
I wouldn't want to be William Shatner tonight, You just know the news of Nichols passing broke his heart.
RIP a true icon
And yet another example of how influential Ms Nichols was on space and in diversifying NASA to where it is now. She will be remember for this an everything else she has done for a very, very long time indeed. May she Live and Prosper in her new adventures.
Nichelle Nichols has beamed up for the last time. R.I.P.
She was such a lovely person. I love when she says “captain at last” as she sat in the simulator. RIP Nichelle.
Other than the year in which this was filmed it's held up well showing how inspiring Ms. Nichols has been for all of humankind
her story of nearly quitting Trek until being convinced to stay on by Martin Luther King Jr. of all people is so incredible, it almost sounds like an actual Trek episode lmfao. She lived an incredibly fulfilling life. RIP
Thank you for your service and recruiting talent.
Simply put...I adored her!
😔😔😔
I got goosebumps watching this video! Thank you so much for sharing this, I will share this with others.
That’s awesome to see an actor interview a mission specialist
Alan Bean was a full fledged astronaut... the third man to step on the Moon.
I've been looking for this video for ages! Thanks, internets!
Neat to see the whole video that they've been showing clips of. Thanks for having this video available. Nichelle was a special woman, and we were lucky she embraced her role.
R.I.P. Nichelle Nichols
RIP Nichelle Nichols. 😢
Thanks for posting this. I remember those days, the country was so optimistic about the future of space exploration.
I met Nichelle and Dr. Mae Jemison at a conference in Chicago.
An amazing experience.
Both were brilliant and inspiring communicators.
And Nichelle was just the warmest, kindest person I have ever met.
Somewhere in between Star Trek and this she stars in Truck Turner. Unreal
Well Dr. King encouraged her to stay on Star Trek. He convinced her that even in her minimal roles and parts she was making a social difference. Her kiss with the Jew playing Kirk didn't go out over some of the airwaves in the South.
In an article dated APRIL 2, 2018 11:24 AM www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2018/04/harry-belafonte-petula-clark-1968-civil-rights-arm-touch-national-commotion
"50 Years Ago, a White Woman Touching a Black Man on TV Caused a National Commotion
Petula Clark and Harry Belafonte remember a televised moment that inadvertently became a scandal-and a civil-rights cause célèbre.
Apr 2, 2018 - On April 2, 1968, America watched as, for the first time, a white woman touched a black man's arm on primetime television."
She was classy on Star Trek, then she went in HAM and cold as ice in Truck Turner.
Wow! I have never seen this before! Wish that I had back in the day!
Again another true classic short documentary I'm just saying thank you for this in my opinion "TRUE CLASSIC FILM SHORT". Wow'wow
Hidden Figures 101 awesome
Rest in power and peace x
To bad she never went into space. She was only used to test the flying capabilities of shuttles. This is from what I had read. I did see her fly on top of a 747 when she was going to be placed on the Intrepid. Yes I did record her flying around my work at the time. I lost the video when we switched over to another computer system DAMN.
That is correct. There was talk of making Enterprise spaceworthy but it was deemed cheaper and safer to simply build a new orbiter instead.
I am sure she knew Katherine Johnson.
What a great lady! Highly intelligent, intellectual AND beautiful as well oozing sex appeal. She handled the video with dignity and good humour.
@Myriaddsystems, I'm a diehard Star Trek fan. I even named my youngest daughter after her.
RIP Nichelle
This is such a special video. Thank you so much for posting this. I will share it with others.
Love this - thanks for posting!
Dr. Mae Jemison is the first African American woman to travel to space. She was aboard the space shuttle Endeavour in 1992. Joining the first class of astronauts selected after the Challenger disaster in 1986.
According to an interview in Stanford Today, Nichelle Nichols playing Lt. Uhura in Star Trek is who originally inspired Jemison to join NASA.
In 1993, she caught up with LeVar Burton, who asked her if she wanted to be in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that he was directing. She ended up playing Lieutenant junior grade Palmer in the season six episode “Second Chances.” Nichelle Nichols even stopped by the set just to meet her.
Upon hearing of Nichelle Nichols' passing, Dr. Jemison shared on Twitter that Nichelle Nichols “is forever for me the embodiment of grace, daring, intelligence, fun, inspiration, beauty, talent & the future.” She also added that she was understandably “heart-sad at her passing” and that she considered her friendship with Nichelle Nichols to be “a great treasure & privilege in my life.”
RIP Ms. Nichelle Nichols....
This film was made 4 years before the first shuttle flight.
Just as awesome in Real Life as she was on the set. May she rest in peace.
Word.
Wonderful 👍👋
Live long, and prosper!😊
One word:
WOW.
Boldly Trek among the Stars Nichelle...

Goodbye, Nichelle.
PBUH.
May Heaven embrace you Nichelle for your life well lived!
My Shero.
Captain Alan Bean was the 4th man on the Moon (Apollo 12, November 1969)
Hollywood and NASA go hand and hand word to the 1960s USA vs USSR Space Race as seen on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS...
Where’s the NASA video with Nichelle in her Star Trek: The Motion Picture costume?
That's What I Want To See

Open a channel, to say see you later
I was 15 when Truck Turner was released.
Here is a 2 minute scene Truck Turner (8/12) Movie CLIP - Finger-Licking Good (1974) HD czcams.com/video/boCpijI2k5I/video.html
This clip is shorter. Ms Nichols plays a Madam motivating her sex workers. 20 seconds after assembling the women her voice is muted. Truck Turner (7/12) Movie CLIP - Your Ass Belongs to Me (1974) HD czcams.com/video/iaQdh-Hbp3I/video.html Star Trek is known for mirror universe evil versions of all the characters. There is nice Spock in ours, and malicious Spock in theirs.
1970's technology
NASA's Enterprise didn't even have engines.
I was a fetus.
She’s like, prettier. . . .
Please still be alive
I got bad news for ya...
Black women back then looked better.
今朝、訃報が、
ニシェル・ニコルズ(89歳)
謹んで御悔やみ申し上げます。
BLEEP ME DONT name one Enterprise until you pull one *DESTINED* for actual space ugh 😖
its 2020 and where are we now with space, and life on Earth in general?? A far cry from heading towards the future of Star Trek. Too bad the Enterprise she spoke of never went anywhere off the ground...It was all smoke and mirrors...
Wrong. The Enterprise was used as an atmospheric test vehicle. It was launched at a high altitude off the back of a 747 in order to test the maneuverability and landing capabilities of the shuttle.
I would not be so sure. The history that star trek predicted had included a war that decimated human civilization, with soldiers being controlled through the use of drugs, not long after the time that the Next Generation was written and aired.
If an Earth that abandoned what made it human with such savagery was able to get on its path towards a state of personal enlightenment, then we can too.
Nobody and nothing can go into a Second Law of Thermodynamics violation called outer space. You would literally have to be a science denier to believe this nonsense show from NASA. It's a belief system. A space religion.
RIP Nichelle Nichols
