    @3:25 In France, they call it a Royale pickup with cheese.

  • @RastaSaiyaman
    @RastaSaiyaman Před 6 lety +2

    I saw the Foo Fighters last month and Chris played almost the entire show on a Fender Signature model with P-90 pickups, only switching for a Gibson ES-335 for dropped D tuned songs.

    • @RastaSaiyaman
      @RastaSaiyaman Před 6 lety +2

      Actually they are NOT like Humbuckers, they sound much rawer, much less refined.
      His use of P-90's (or as Fender calls them "Black Dove" pickups) is probably to get his sound different from what Pat and Dave are doing on stage.

    • @jacoobyslaps
      @jacoobyslaps Před 5 lety

      RastaSaiyaman Less refined? I’m not so sure. P90s are single coil pickups, which offer much better more separation than humbuckers.

    And that new combo is the MIM Chris Shiflett parts Telecaster.... with all the goodies Chris likes.... Strat headstock 12" radius with rosewood on Maple and Jumbo frets, Tele body, with Strat cutaway on the back, and basic Gibson setup with 4 controls and a 3 way switch tied in to a couple of Humbuckers. Bought one today in Shoreline Gold, in the hard case... a Telecaster DeLuxe signed Chris Shiflett signature model. Great for playing chords, my pickups sound a little scooped out in the middle?

    I always felt that the tele bridge pickup was a single coil anomaly because it does have a big sound, and great with distortion. I use my tele for Foo Fighters songs all the time and thought it was perfect, but Chris is the expert which I certainly am not.

    I get what he's saying- the Foo has a huge sound and they know how to achieve it, but if you can't make a stock vintage Tele rock then there's something wrong with you. They can hang with any rock guitar.

    • @patrickolivier1
      @patrickolivier1 Před rokem +1

      I understand what u mean but there’s a massive difference between the sound of a single coil and a humbucker produces. You really need to listen and feel out which pickups work for which songs or which band. Which one works in your hands even. I’ve known some players that sounded good playing through humbuckers but strap a tele with single coils on em and it’s lights out.

    • @stevedixon6468
      @stevedixon6468 Před 7 lety

      He didn't say he asked Fender for a free guitar. When you're in a massive rock band, you might see things differently. His band's profile means it's a no brainer for Fender to give him stuff. A couple of grand lost giving Chris Shiflett a free guitar would be more than made up by the commercial value of having Fenders visibly in the hands of such a high profile player. When you're in a big band like that, your patronage has a tangible commercial value, that the likes of you or I don't have.

    • @alexmarenco2399
      @alexmarenco2399 Před 5 lety

      Well no, he actually gets paid by Fender to promote the brand. He has a contract (thats why he has his own guitar with them). He doesnt get it for free bc he asked simply asked for it, he gets supplied with guitars for marketing purposes. It is in Fender's interest to give musicians instruments to play so they can be seen by the public and be drawn into buying their products.

    • @randyvanvliet226
      @randyvanvliet226 Před 4 lety

      Trust me, it's not free... but I can assure you, Fender sells a lot of Chris Shiflett Tele versions, as does John 5 the Squire custom versions, every single year. The unique feature about this Tele is 2 fold, rosewood fretboard, and 12" radius on a Strat melody note style headstock.. Chris gets working instruments, they are tools to him... he needs 3 of each, one for recording and touring in the USA, one for touring in England, and one for touring in Australia and NZ. Eventually, they get donated to Rock and Roll memorabilia collectors and artists who put the stuff on historical display.
