Episodes 4 and 10 always hurt, but they're so important to the story. These events are what drive *so much* going forward, they have such an effect on the paths taken by the two main groups of protagonists (Ed and Al, and Mustang and his team).
I always took the title of the episode as two meanings. The kids are literally going on a trip with separate destinations, the boys to dublith and winry to rush valley. And then the other sense that Hughes reached his "destination" and Roy was left alone without his best friend.
A thing I've come to appreciate about episode 10 (and Arakawa-sensei's writing) is that the first half of the episode is spent building up Hughes's death to be as tragic as possible, then there's like two minutes of him getting murdered, and the second half is spent twisting the knife. And for the entire rest of the show, we're right there with Roy--whoever did this must pay.
Hughes dying always hurts. He was such a nice guy and he really grew on us because he was so relatable and realistic. Like we can actually find someone like him in real life, and is probably friends with someone like that in real life too. A real family guy who loves his family dearly and does good deeds to help others. We can actually feel his death on a personal level, like as if one of our friends just died. Seeing his daughter crying for him makes it even more heartbreaking. But his death also set up one of the coldest, most satisfying and best revenge scenes ever.

I think my favorite part is how heavy they were laying on the death flags and this _still_ comes as a surprise. All the wife and daughter talk, man might as well have been counting days to retirement.
It is such a cliche that we do not believe the show would actually go for it. That is the true surprise element which makes this show so good to watch.

I think I’ve seen 2 different channels who actually were getting SUPER close with their theories of what he figured out at this point in the show… 1 of them was _almost_ spot on. Lol It was to the point I’d have almost been suspicious they’ve seen it before if it wasn’t for the fact they also had a few theories/speculations (also a couple times where they’d misunderstand certain things up until that point) that they were so confident about, when in reality they couldn’t have been more wrong.
Maybe since you’ll theorize in the next episode, consider checking commenter’s questions, like: why do you think Lust was still able to talk despite being stabbed in the head by a kunai?
In case no one else has already jumped to mention it, Mustang and Lust's voice actors, Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey, are married in real life. They also play a little D&D game called Critical Role, asking with other nerdy and talented voice actors. And they have a show, The Legend Of Vox Machina, an animated series based on their first campaign. If you haven't already watched it, I highly recommend reacting to it.
nina episode is shoking, it shows that nobody, no matter how inocent, is safe in this story, But Hughes is personal, in this 10 episode we have him in almost all of them, we get attached and care for his well being. but most important we fell for the characters, we like for mustang to get justice for his best friend, his family to survive this and we get worry for the moment the Elric Brothers discover the true. this show is amazing because every character has its purpose and every death have a meaning.
When anything can move you to tears, you know you are before a piece of art, beyond of you like it or not. Make treasure of this experience, becouse you will not (and can not) live it again as pure as now.

This death is amazing because of its banality and senselesness. It does not advance the plot in any way. I mean, it does play a part in Roy Mustang's character arc, but it's mostly there to simply make the viewers afraid anyone might die. It's the high point of the whole story. This and the rightful conclusion of this arc........ when Roy carves a transmutation circle on his hand. If you know, you know.

I dont understand why Brotherhood ia so critically acclaimed. They butchered all the key scenes such as Edward & Al's failed transmutation of their mum, and even the Nina-Tucker tragedy build-up. The original FMA 2003 was goated and more gritry & realistic.
