I like this because the guy that set the alarm and the guy that wakes up to them are 2 completely different people. It's like he's fighting a war with his formal, 8 hours ago self. This probably wasn't the intention of this animation, but I think it speaks to how much we can change depending on what impulses and emotions we have in the moment.
The description on the IMdB page for this short has a similar interpretation

The fact that this is 12 years old but has cloth simulation on that blanket that is better than most cloth simulations nowadays is insane.

This was REALLY cool for me to watch. I genuinely was curious about what was going on for this guy and felt bad for how exhausted he was. I don't know if he just hasn't gotten a good night's sleep in a long time, or he has narcolepsy but this was such an interesting experience. Not to mention I loved the art style and the blanket physics were GREAT.

I look at it like he has depression. You cant seem to get yourself out of bed or feel awake no matter how many alarms you set and cant perform the most basic of tasks because it feels like you're doing something close to impossible. It's frustrating. Life feels monotonous and the only thing you like to do is sleep. You get tired of waking up and eventually you're just done.

You guys didn't see the real message behind this film. The protagonist clearly is no longer motivated with his life. The multiple alarms in the beginning represents how he tries to get back on his feet but failed. Towards the end he gets frustrated and started to get mad and angry, hence throwing his clock which meant of him giving up. The elevator scene where it showed he was an alarm and the ending of him shooting the alarm represents how he killed him self. He had a firearm close to his bed to when one day the final alarm wakes him and he can't take it any longer.

(My middle school didn't start until 9:45 AM, so it was a big switch to have to be ready and at school at the time you're used to waking up.) I hated being woken up by my alarm so much, a shot of panic would go through me if I heard something that sounded anything remotely close to my alarm, even if I was awake.
