Like Jonathan I believe that god gives us free will so if we decide to be athiest it is our decision and that is O.K. Unlike other religions Judiasm has no problem with atheists as it is O.K. to wrestle with god on our beliefs. Jonathan is definately a very wise Rabbi. I also believe it's better to be an Athiest and inadvertently doing gods work than to be one of these fanatics who claims to be religious and is killing in the name of god like so many in this world are doing.

I think one of the best verses in bible is , when I go to Valley of death, I know he is with me, , faith in God is personal relationship with her or his creators.no person can inject faith or force upon some one. May God bless people with his light.

I would say that your respect and tolerance of others makes you one of the world's foremost ambassadors of peace. You exemplify for me the road of love of God and love of humanity. If anything plants the seed of belief in God, it is this.

Dawkins and his ilk can't go 5 seconds without mockery. They use it to bolster their arguments and aren't capable of the sort of dialogue that the late Rabbi spoke of

The trouble I have with these conversation is the word God, it just is too small a word for all the pain and joy laid at it's feet. Why not speak of presence that sense of something other than the obvious. Not everyone feels it and that's OK but for those that do it just is and is irrefutable.

@archon88 Mockery and satire lack the show of respect. Where is it that Rabbi Sacks has ridiculed atheists? That's a perfect example of the golden rule. And he's had very close beloved friends who were atheists. Rabbi Sacks addresses doubt as do other rabbis. Listen a little more carefully, he respects atheists because in his words, they challenge sloppy thinking. What doubts do you have about your belief or non-belief?

The primary thing you need in common to join in the search of truth is hold a common concept of it. Whether I mock you, ridicule you, misrepresent you, or whatever is irrelevant.
This is also why I mock you. You're far less profound than you think you are, and you don't share my concept of truth. You're just eloquent. There is nothing of value you can offer me other than me wasting time listening to well-spoken pseudo-philosophy and politics.

"Could I make it clear and could I make it cogent" ... Superman is clear and cogent, but it doesn't mean he exists! Sacks missed the side of the barn in that shot!

What he means is that can you make your arguements clear and cogent. I know that doesnt neseciate that it's True but it means he can make an arguement that's honest and not slimy.

Just as Eve was/is a helper against* Adam, so too the atheist is against the true believer. 4:29 a great use of the word caricature.

Sacks is a good man, but he lives in a hopelessly flimsy fantasy world.
