This game went downhill fast just like SF6 had a massive amount of hype and initial players but is slowly dwindling off, tekken 8 is no different the amount of balance issues, match bugs like this king classic, the playerbase is abandoning the game too
But, the general rule is that mids beat crouching. The only characters that have mid crush stuff are guys like xiaoyu, it’s trippy when King can do it.

That's bcos his hit triggered your hotbox first with that low hit, thats why your hit didn't register.
I think that attack also puts king in crouching which would explain why the attack whiffed
