Absolutely the best review of the Mini3.
Very nice video. Thank you! In case nobody answered, you can hand catch this bird just like all the others: hold down the left stick and it overrides the bottom sensors. I do it almost every flight with my Mini 3 Pro. One of the best features (that I didn't expect) is how quiet it is, as you mentioned. I prefer to remain unnoticed whenever possible and this one does a great job, unless in sport mode at full speed of course.
It's been a while guys, how is everyone?
One thing I notice between my Mini 3 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro, is that birds and squirrels don’t seem to notice it. I used to have crows checking my Phantom out, but have never seen any wildlife take notice of my Mini 3 Pro. That is a game changer. It’s not just humans that miss it. In fact, I have trouble keeping line of site on it due to being so small and quiet.
Great 1 month wrap up. Had mine for 1 month too, really enjoying it, Tracking works well. Great upgrade from original mini
Great summary, thank you for shairing!.
Another great review from you here Hugh.
I've been very tempted by the Mini 3 since it was announced, as like you say, it's going to be perfect for the bread and butter corporate work.
Thanks for posting and I'll be back for the next one 🙂
ARCH Motorcycles! I like your style. Great video. Thanks Hugh.
I've worn that cap a lot now and it's appeared in a few vids and Insta posts but you're the first person to mention it! 😂 Thanks to you too Ted!
Great vid, looking out for more.... cheers bud.
Some day I’d love to go back to Ireland and fly my mini3 Pro.
Nice review. I have one on order. Even though I have been building and flying drones since 2013, I wanted this one because of the great reviews and largely because it is so stealthy (hard to see and hear), when you are flying in areas where some authority figures might want to get in your face. It should be a great compliment to my Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom drones. I'm also excited about its low light capability, and that it handles wind pretty well for such a small and lightweight drone. Battery life and range are the icing on the cake! Thanks for your take on things!
Great review, very informative and helpful. I'm awaiting stock and will buy one as soon as I can. You have some fantastic scenery in your area too. Thank you for the video.
Thanks a lot, enjoy it when you get it and yeah, Galway is lovely in good weather.
Thanks for this great review. I just discovered your channel and look forward to more. Cheers from Wisconsin.
Great review first time watching one of your videos lived in Athlone for over 8 years before coming back to the UK will be watching you more
I got one on the way super excited 😆
Well done.
The Mini2 is half the price and outstanding
Thanks 👏👍
Loved the production on this. nice and slick and that little factoid about sensor size is always nice for those less familiar with cameras. Hoping at some point that new controller is sold separately, would pair wonderfully with my new Air 2S!
Cheers Marcus, yeah, upped the game a little for this one as it's been a whopping 2.5 months since I last uploaded. Crazy to let it slip like that. Hope you like the shot of the sign in the carpark! Well wear on the new drone, yeah, the controller is a no-brainer.
Savage review man. I was just talking about this drone today with Sean! The plus and minus vs the air 2s. For bread and butter it’s class… 85mm is a stretch.. it was great to hear you talk about millimetres! Haven’t heard it since tech drawing back in 97
Thanks for watching Dec. A lot of people think the sensors in these drones are bigger then they are, including myself so I wanted to check. You’re hardly using inches?
Awesome video Hugh, just out of interest loving the camera backpack you use what make and model is it , as I could do with updating mine . Keep the great vlogs coming my friend 👍.
Thanks a lot Peter, it's the Lowepro Pro Trekker 550 AW II 40L. A very expensive bag and to be honest, I'm a little disappointed with it because if you don't carry a laptop with you everywhere, then the whole outer flap is wasted. Also, the top section is a waste and will end up on your shelf unless you're hiking. Basically, what I'm saying is the bag is over engineered. But that's not to say you won't like it.
Love my Mini 3. Will love it even more once I get the Fly More Combo Plus kit. Thumbs up👍
Great video,. can't wait to get down to Galway when I get my new Mini 3
I have it and I love it! Lately I have been flying it more than my Air 2S, My Mavic Air 2 as well.It saved my butt on a roof insurance inspection I was on. I usually use my Mavic 2 Pro with my Iphone. Well it's been so hot here in Texas that my Iphone stopped working and had to be cooled down. Right in the middle of the inspection! So I had the Mini 3 Pro for backup nd it did great!
You can’t use the controller with any other drone currently but there is a beta test of the app which apparently does allow it so when they finish testing I’m sure it won’t be that long
Appreciate the review. Fewer regulations here in the Philippines and this is tempting.
So bad ideea : DJI do not sell long range battery in Europe. Stupid ideea. So beautiful review!
Many thanks for the review Hugh. A few weeks with it now and i notice the low resolution videos (caché) are stored in the drone sd card instead of the RC card. So unable to see those videos in my RC if the drone is off. Is that correct? Thanks again
Great review, was interested to hear how well it worked in Irish weather! You’re probably aware that DJI heavily ‘cook’ their ‘RAW’ files, starting with the Phantom 4 Pro 1” sensor. They crop the edges and remove distortion, then increase the resolution again. The 20MP 1” sensors are cropped to 17MP then up-scaled back to 20MP. I’m not surprised the 12MP photos show odd shading patterns. They also sometimes use plastic lens elements that go darker and cast a green tint in very cold conditions. Something similar might happen if it gets too hot.
Wow, that’s interesting Ken, thanks for pointing that out. For the people these drones are aimed at, the quality is more than good enough but I would like to see something a bit more high end on the camera side of things. Particularly lending. A foldable drone the size phantom with really good changeable glass is what I’d like to see.
Like the review very informative. Just got my hands on one but scare to fly it because of all of the negative reviews of the range. Also you mention the controller is now compatible with the Air 2s. Is that true
Yeah, I think it’s compatible, if not now, soon maybe. I wouldn’t be afraid of flying. It’s not the type of drone to be flying over 1km away, there should be no reason to do that imo.
Well Hugh, going from a spark to a air 2, I never go for a micro drone again as they just can’t handle the Galway weather . Unless it’s a dead calm day youre fighting the elements the whole time (hence killing your battery). Great review 👍👍
Yeah, I know what you're saying. A Mavic is great in the wind in comparison but I was able to fly this a lot in heavy enough wind. Usually I can get the shots I want. But the heftier drone is a better option for Galway as you say.
I like every single second of this video but if may give you one tip it’s that maybe the light on your face could be a little bit warmer, but that’s my opinion so… great video!
Thanks, thats good CC. I actually did remove some blue and pink from my face but it still could be warmer for sure. Gonna take that advice for next video.
did you have to focus it ??
It’s easy to hand catch yes you put your hand under it and the sensors notice it and move it up but if you keep the joystick pull down it will land on your hand
good review, instantly i knew you knew your stuff. Unlike a lot of these fake reviewers that do not even know what HDR is so they think it has it. LOL. they are not professionals, only playing with toys to get likes.
yeah, I can tell I put a lot into this one because getting nice genuine comments from the likes of yourself says it all. Thanks!
Not sure but I think it's the quad-bayer sensor, similar to the Air 2 sensor. Spilts the pixil to get the 48 megapixil
Yeah, I mention that. Kinda. It's not a true 48mp sensor. The quality and noise isn't as good as what you'd get from true 48pm.
My mini 3 pro arrives Friday 7.7.23
i have the mavic 2 pro i'm wondering if i should sell it to go with this one since it'S still 10 bits . your thought?
I would only do that if you need a smaller, lighter drone. The mini isn't as robust or solid in the air as a Mavic. It all depends I guess.
Yes you need a class 10 card

Hi Hugh. I hope you're well. I've had an interseting few months but that's a story for another day. Thanks for sharing this no-nonsense review. I'm thinking of buying one of these, even though I don't do a lot of drone stuff (I have the first mini). I have one particular project in mind and this baby would be ideal for my purposes. I've had to quit doing my weekly series (check out episode 122 for explanation, if you're interested: czcams.com/video/ZRfA4y9Tk88/video.html) but I do want to film this one project which I've had in mind for a long time now so keep your fingers crossed for me and let's see what happens. Take care, stay safe and don't forget, there's still a pint on offer any time you're in Dublin.
Thanks a lot Michael, I must check out your channel again. Thanks for the link. This drone is probably the best for wildlife lovers as it's fairly quiet and not too big as to spook the birds that much. The Air 2s might be a bit more solid so is worth checking too. Yeah, I'd love to catch up. I have a new channel for birds and stuff too. Hugh Sweeney Bird Photography. I did a nice vlog about the Egyptian Vulture recently.
Practice a boxers left or right hook and catch it out of the air
In order to hand catch your drone…put your hand underneath, it will sense first, rise up about about 1 foot. Keep the left joystick down and it will land in your hand, keep holding the joystick down till propellers turn off.
Great, thanks Cory.
