    Thank you so much for this video! I am about to finish my first semester as an undergrad in computer science. You totally changed my perspective on math (and hard subjects in general) as I realized it's normal to struggle and just not getting it the first time. However, looking back, I'm really proud of the progress I've made and all the effort I put in. Now, I can easily manage certain topics that at first seemed super obscure and confusing. There's still a lot to learn but I'm slowly getting there. To anyone out there, you've got this! Just keep working and failing and getting up back again. It's all part of the process.

    “Stellar Atmospheres and Interiors” by Eva Novotny. Along the way I began collecting other books and watching your videos. My latest lucky find completely unmarked unlike the one I sported around on campus years ago. Since then I have acquired a huge

    The video mentioned Texas A&M and University of West Florida. A couple that I found while researching math/comp sci graduate programs. Indiana State University, University of Houston, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Columbia University, University of Washington, John Hopkins University. I'm starting Texas A&M Commerce in the fall for comp sci. I know that program can be completed via distance. They do have graduate courses in math via distance but I'm not sure if the full degree can be done that way.

    More power to the OP who wants to get an MS in math even though they already got a PHD in physics. BUT... a PHD is terminal degree. They've shown they can "do the work" (especially if it's physics). No one is going to be further impressed with credentials beyond that. Moreover it's totally possible for physicists to just focus their research into mathematical topics (by the same token mathematicians can also focus themselves into physics topics, no extra credentials required!). Ultimately, the OP has to decide what's right for themselves. IMHO, anything beyond a PHD seems very close to "degree collecting" rather than pure interest and exploration.

  • @_seventh_son

    Its not even worth it at that point. Its best he focuses on exactly what he wants out of math, e.g. do you wish to learn certain math ideas to apply to your research in physics? Or just learn new math? Either way Im sure this dude would have no problem learning on his own what they would teach him in a masters degree just based on his achievements.
    I do have a question for you math sorcerer. Im on the opposite spectrum where i want to make a career out of applied math but i cant afford university so i decided to just learn myself. Do you know of any mathematicians that are self taught and still managed to make a career in math?

  • @twenty-fifth420
    @twenty-fifth420 Před rokem +1

    Huh, I know that word actually unironically. I am considering self-teaching myself math for algorithms but my budget is free and I now have a bias against academia to put it very, *very* nicely. I am learning programming but I have a passion for story telling and making games more then the math side of it.
    But I wouldn't deny, functional proofs and math as well algorithms sounds very, VERY fun to experiment. (If you know about Lambda Calculus and the adjacent theory of computation, I am sure you can infer on my curiosity lol)
    Also, I think I heard/saw a math channel on here that was 2k for algebra that I think looks and sounds like you. Confirming if that is you, 'Epic Algebra' = The Math Sorcerer is true? lol. I got to squeeze in logic somehow, but if it is, subbed there too!

    • @christianwilborn4620
      @christianwilborn4620 Před rokem +1

      Isolation vs other minds to query in real time. Measuring the level of distraction between the two routes is something I find important, and that’s based on a variety of personal factors. I’m an advocate of a majority of a learning experience being one with a higher percentage of physical contact along with a percentage of isolated study via books/online library. Of course the things I’ve listed all have their complexities with what you’re able to utilize. That I’ll leave the thinking for you to ponder on. Focusing more on everything you’re currently enrolled in should be your prime though in my humble unprofessional opinion.

    The actual ordering of the three subjects Math, Physics, Chemistry are the following:
    First of all, give at least 15 thousand hours to Mathematics.
    Then give 20 thousand hours to Physics.
    Finally, devote 10 thousand hours to Chemistry.
    Only then you will become a genuine scientific modern human being.
