      No, I'm not too sure about the battery life of it, they haven't done much over the years it's still the same as it was years ago, so I think I will be waiting. :) Plus no USB C or Thunderbolt, they screwed up their I/O. I can see who it's for, but it's not for me.

    • @fazkaz1996

    • @sleepyearth
      @sleepyearth Před 7 lety +4

      It will still be hard for international buyers to replace or service it. It will probably take a couple of months just to send it back, service it and return to you. This will be a major factor for some folks.
      We still don't know about the reliability of the device and any bugs unknown to the public. I know this is not the 1st iteration of the device and I reckon we wait out for a couple of months for it to be reviewed by real users 1st. This review is very basic and the reviewer doesn't give us any useful information like the batt life, how does a graphic designer find it useful? Cons like how will the lower sensitivity of pressure points affects drawings? Will it get very hot after an hr of usage? wifi or 4g enabled?

    • @sleepyearth
      @sleepyearth Před 7 lety +5

      Ermm no. MS don't need to be at all cities around the world. It just needs retailers and distributors. Both retailers and distributors can also be responsible for repairs and replacement. What's more MS actually have offices in practically all major cities across the world. Have you ever went to the MS site and go through their support site list?? Even for a small city like mine i can easily find a MS office for technical support in the CBD area.
      I reckon you have never send any big items around the world. Try sending a laptop to any asia country from America and it'll take at least 5 days to a week and that's only one way.

Oh yea don't ask for a refund cause they'll just keep giving excuses. Been waiting 7 months for mine and it hasn't even shipped. Great company(sarcasm) They might have a pretty good product, but their ethics and customer service is shit.

    I was the hyper early bird backer from 2016. after delay and delay and delay (dec 2016, jan 2017, feb 2017, april 2017), i couldnt take it anymore, because the technology change really fast. The spec that eve gave it to us in 2016 is medicore in the 2017. so i refund it. thank god back then eve wasnt released yet, thats why so many people still want to get it and there was many people in the waiting list. so it was pretty easy to get refunded. that was the best decision in my life. and the best learning curve.
    now i own MBP 2017 and i never been so proud of that. the support is the most important one. just like when you buying stuff from amazon. the support is top!!!

    As an artist, pressure sensitivity is a huge reason to choose the new surface over this. Plus the Surface Pros actually use faster cpus and integrated gpus. Look it up. They use the y versions of the i3, i5, and i7s. These are just rebranded m cpus from Intel. A bit misleading on their part not to state this.

MS hasn't needed to improve because they have turned the Surface into the leader. I really tried to make the iPad Pro into a business device but I found out they are far behind. ( no multi tasking, saving of attachments to local storage, no docking station). I was kind of shocked. This looks like a promising device but would be silly to WAIT on a VC funded device.

    I'm a big fan! One thing to note Dave, the most important criteria for most people that earn via their computers is CUSTOMER SERVICE/WARRANTY. That's the main reason I won't buy anything but Dell/Alienware/Apple knowing if I have any trouble they'll fix it immediately so I won't have downtime in my business.
    If you could incorporate the reputation of the companies in terms of customer service, I think it would be helpful. I'd rather pay extra bucks to have the safety net of international on-site warranty. Which small start-ups most likely won't provide.
    Thank you for your lovely videos.

  • @cameronsingh
    @cameronsingh Před 7 lety +7

    I fail to understand why people argue that the Surface Pro needed a Thunderbolt 3 port. It's a tablet for Christ sake, why would you use it for intense gaming or editing. Not to mention that external GPUs just aren't ready for the market. They require expensive equipment to power and connect them and can experience performance drops 30%?!?

    • @ahmada.562
      @ahmada.562 Před 7 lety +3

      Cameron Bush Tablet is merely its starting PC form-factor. The Surface Pro is practically a 3 (or even 4)-in-1 PC; Tablet (+ Digitizer Drawing Board, with the Surface Pen) + Laptop + Desktop. Stop thinking of it like some limited toyPad. I seamlessly use my Surface Pro 2 as all of the above.
      Attach the Type cover and it physically and practically becomes a high-end Laptop/Ultrabook PC. Dock it at a desk using the Surface Docking station and it physically and practically becomes a midrange Desktop PC. With a Thunderbolt 3 port, it can be practically both a high-end Tablet/Digitizer Drawing Board/Laptop when on the go, and a high-end Desktop when docked at a desk. That's what I want in my next Surface Pro, and until it's implemented, there's no compelling enough reason to upgrade my Surface Pro 2.

    • @cameronsingh
      @cameronsingh Před 7 lety +1

      Are you blind or dumb? My criticism wasn't of the product, ie the Surface Pro, but of Thunderbolt 3. Less than 5 minutes of research will show you that the normal performance of a GPU is obliterated once you run it through a thunderbolt cable. As I said, that can be a reduction of 30% or more in some cases. External GPUs are NOT READY for the market yet until you can get SLI transfer speeds using it.

    • @ahmada.562
      @ahmada.562 Před 7 lety +1

      Cameron Bush You should be asking yourself that question, idiot. I clearly explained the use of Thunderbolt 3 in what you're thinking is merely a tablet.
      Even if the performance of an eGPU is reduced over Thunderbolt 3, it's still significantly better performing than merely an integrated GPU. Just 'cause eGPUs aren't ready for prime time doesn't mean the product can't be future proof, dumbass...

    • @cameronsingh
      @cameronsingh Před 7 lety

      Wishful thinking is what I say. Microsoft validated their choice of not including a thunderbolt port because they don't believe it's ready for market. So do you agree with that? After all you did say that it isn't in its "prime time" yet.
      Anyways to prove a point about external GPUs not being ready yet, just cost it out. £100-200 for a housing, £200 for a RX 480 that will run like a RX 460 if not worse, A laptop or tablet which can support it with a decent CPU £1200 and your additional cost energy bill each year for running it full time at home/work.
      Total £1500+
      Alternatively you could build yourself a very impressive work station which is no less portable than any of the external GPUs and has much more potential for upgrading. Maybe even buy a laptop and build a PC
      In reality the external GPUs are not "up-gradable" since they use a slugish form of data transfer that badly need improvements which would require replacing the GPU and all.

    • @ahmada.562
      @ahmada.562 Před 7 lety +1

      Cameron Bush Them not believing it's ready is no excuse for such expensive device to be lacking such port in 2017. It's more ready than that Mini DisplayPort has ever been on the Surface line of devices. Lacking it in 2017 just makes it outdated and far less future proof compared to the competition.
      If anything, the only logical explanation is to avoid eating deeply into the sales of their OEMs' devices...that also explains why they backed the Kickstarter campaign for this Eve V.

      Rishav Khullar the reason for the wired aspect ratio is to make work as a tablet and a laptop
      Holding a 16:9 tablet vertically is not convenient.

    • @Some1Something
      @Some1Something Před 7 lety

      Rishav Khullar ( I'm going to assume you meant the surface book ) I haven't seen many reviews of it, but in the ones I've seen, they didn't like the tablet portion of the device because of the weight and aspect ration, the main focus of the surface book is being a good laptop first.
      The aspect ratio is what makes tablets like the iPad a great, it works wither you use it horizontally or vertically.

    Cool alternative. I've been a professional surface pro user since gen 3 and the detachable keyboard which goes wireless is really cool. If it only came with a dock like the Surface. I plug my Surface in at the office and it powers two 24 inch monitors and all the peripherals one could think of. This, and the whole pen/office productivity features really make it a versatile little computer.

    I'm sorry Dave. You usually make sound and logical points, but saying that Surface Pro hasn't evolved much since the first is just blatantly false. Surface Pro has improved and innovated by leaps and bounds over the generations and it's what's inspired these other OEMs and startups to copy them. Just because they've arrived at an ideal form factor over the last two generations doesn't mean that they aren't improving meaningfully. Just look at the 50% battery life improvement in the new Surface Pro, or the massively improved pen tech.

    • @jamesw2831
      @jamesw2831 Před 7 lety +3

      Most of that is due to the Kaby Lake U series processor, not Microsoft. I don't care too much about pen levels because Wacom has been working on that forever. Outside of Intel processors changing, Microsoft Surface has not evolved much.

  • @adrianhorstmann7069
    @adrianhorstmann7069 Před 7 lety +1

    Hey Dave Lee,
    what i really would like to see since the first Surface Pro was released, that Microsoft would make a hardcase keyboard (like they later did with the surface book).
    I dont get why they dont develope one tablet device and give the user the choice if they prefer the covertype keyboard or the "real" keyboard with extra battery.
    As much as i love the Typecover it just is not a laptop. Even thought it is one of the best keyboards i ever had (type cover 4), it is not that good if you want to use it on your lap, in the bed or on a small table. When i had a lecture with seats that had this small woodplank that is supposed to be a table I really wished for a harddocking keyboard. The main problem for me is that all the weight is on the tablet portion and if you push the tablet a bit to far above the edge of the table it fells down and the keyboard just gets disconnected. With a "real" laptop or a keyboard like the surface book you first of all had some more weight on the keyboard part wich makes it harder to fall off. Secondly the locking mechanism could be better like the one on the surface book so it doesn't disconnect from the keyboard that easily. And lastly you could even pack a battery in the keyboard like they did with the charging cover for the surface pro 2.
    So you might ask, why i dont get a surface book then. I would but it is too expensive in germany with 256 gb ssd and everything lower than that is just not enough especially when it is not upgradeable. And secondly I am talking about the idea of just developing one device with both types of keyboard. The Kickstand is nice if you wanna use it as a tablet the surface book in tablet mode doesnt have one. If the tablet part would be the same device both would/could get the kickstand.
    Another option would be to open up the connector for third party developer so other companies can make this kind of keyboard. The Brydge is a nice idea but it will fail because it is connected by bt wich is a big downgrade if you just could use the connector instead. With BT you would have to charge both devices seperately. You had to turn both of them on/off seperately. You had to connect it manually isntead of just clicking it in and so on.
    I really hope that someone from microsoft sees this idea (or these two ideas - opening the connector for third party and a surface book like keyboard for the surface pro series)
    I'd really like to hear your opinion about my idea. And because you have a good reputation it would be super amazing if you have any chance to talk with MS about the surface pro line about it. And jeah they should definetly ditch the 4gb/128gb version. For that price the cheapest version should have atleast 8gb ram and 256gb ssd even for the m-core processors

    I feel like some crazy company should make a passively cooled Ultrabook similar to this one, but on the back of the tablet, put fine grooves to give it a textured look and feel, and act as a heatsink. Then, sell a stand for the tablet that has a fan blowing on the tablet, to give it more cooling capacity when it's at a desk. What do you think?

    One of the more vain aspects of buying a laptop or 2 in 1 is how the device looks. I would argue it plays a big role in sales. Smaller screen bezels sharper corners would have given it a more modern look. And perhaps a color that shows off the aluminum build a little more.
    I really want devices like these to sell more because larger companies often don't have the flexibility to be creative like startups do.
    Beyond those little visual quirks, seems like a good value. I could do without "oops" for my backspace key, though.

    I agree the Eve is a better price BUT.... warranty.... Warranty makes a BIG difference to me. I have a 3 year extended warranty on my Surface Pro 4 in which they send me a new device before I have to give mine up. So no RMAing, no delays. They also cover accidental breakage. You're paying a premium for a Surface device, that's for sure, compared to a company with 0 reputation. But hopefully they totally kick butt!
