Rome to Pompeii Day Trip August 2023

Getting from Rome to Naples was very straight forward. We booked online through Italo.
As for tickets to get inside the actual site, you can definitely get them in person. We got there and waited near the front at 8am (it opens at 9am) and when it opened there was already a line down the road.
Pompeii was our favorite day trip. There was so much to see and the city was so big you could be walking all day and not see everything. We stayed for 6 hours there. Make sure to bring a lunch and lots of water (they have fountains and bathrooms though). I also took a class about Roman civilization and a lot of what the prof said about their house structures was still in the ruins so it was really cool to see that too.
Make sure to validate your train ticket when going back. When we went to Pompeii we put our tickets though a gate but returning from the actual site you have to punch it though a yellow machine on the right side before going down and under the train tracks to get to the returning platform.
