They should have done more with the fact that the storm troopers were all apparently kidnapped and brainwashed as children.
I’ll die on that hill with ya bud. His character was terribly written. He was screwed over in Force Awakens anyway when they allowed Rey to best him the first she ignited a lightsaber. I like the idea of him growing into a “worthy” successor to Vader but the foundation wasn’t even laid properly.

"Ryan Roundhead Johnson f*cked it up" is what I got out of that. That and imagine if they had flipped the script and had Rey die to save Ben. She redeems the character in the fans eyes, he goes on to be the legacy character. Imagine how that would have fixed things.
But if Driver is saying the arc of Ren was to end with him being the most committed to the dark side, how did Johnson mess that up? Thing is, Kylo Ren was probably the best part about disneys Star Wars. He added deep character on a character we all wanted to see. Anyone would have loved to see any dark side character be confused about their morals and stuff. We got a peak of it when anakin became darth vder when mace windu was about to arrest palpatine. Problem is, we got the same treatment for EVERY CHARACTER. We have been forced to like each character on screen so none of us dove deep into Kylo Ren except as to how much he failed. Dawg, his lightsaber was bad ass. He just needed a kick from the old war to ramp his inspirations.
I remember a few week, maybe it was a few months, aster “The Force Awakens” came out, someone from Star Wars read the script for the second movie (the script at the time) and they mentioned that it was so good they literally cried. Sad what happened to it. I would’ve liked to see that film.
The fact that Adam driver carried that character through awful storytelling and writing and making one of the most badass villains in all of Star Wars shows how incredible of an actor he is. Not many can do that.
That would have been bad ass and it would have made sense that Luke tried to kill him bc he knew he couldn’t be tamed. As it is, it took barely anything to turn him back which makes Luke look like a psychopath.
Yea that was Ryan Johnson’s Luke where he was able to turn Vader the most powerful sith next to sidious. But then for luke to think that his nephew could never change and immediately tries to kill him in his sleep which is dishonorable as it gets. The people in charge didn’t think about the small details in the big picture they wanted which goes to terrible writing and they wanted to make Star Wars their own story.
You morons dont even know what your talking about. Adam mentions ryan took it in a new direction but kept it on the same track. Then it actually changed in episode 9.
If you'd listen to the actual interview then you'd know what he really said is that Rian took the story to a different direction but didn't change Kylo Ren at all. In fact it was all still in character for his arc and only the last movie changed him with the direction of JJ Abrams.

Now that he says this about kylo’s arc it makes sense that he lost in the first movie because he was so unsure of himself and his power in the darkside they could have used that loss as a good motivator for him to get stronger and scarier in the second and third movies if they went that route i probably would have really enjoyed his character
It is stated in the novelization and at the beginning of TLJ that the reason Kylo lost was because he was conflicted (and because he was heavily wounded ofc)
Reminder kids that when making a trilogy of movies it's important to A: have clear and mutual communication with all and any other directors B: come to an agreement for the direction of the movies And C: DON'T FUCKING THROW AWAY EVERY PLOT LINE, ARC AND SET UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRILOGY, HAND IT BACK TO THE FIRST GUY AND SAY "HERE YA GO PAL, GOOD LUCK"

Kathleen Kennedy should have been fired and Rian Johnson should be blacklistsd. Seriously you don’t take a job and step into a role knowing that your job is to complete it - just to blow up the foundation and building blocks in the middle of the project. That is literally what Rian did. He took all the building blocks set up in the first film and went out of his way to torch all of them. His behavior during this project was completely unprofessional and Kennedy should be ousted from the industry for allowing him to rampage through the production like a petulant child. What really irks me is Disney and Rian will try to make this about misogyny. It’s just toxic male fans who didn’t like our woke changes. When in reality it was just straight up awful writing. Like objectively JJ Abram’s and Lawrence Kasdan set up the entire trilogy’s story and Rian went through and destroyed every single plot thread and undid everything. He basically hit the reset button in the middle of the story and then screwed over the next director by then having to start all over again in the final film. If that isn’t reckless irresponsible behavior I don’t know what it is. Even if you aren’t a nerd Star Wars fan this is really unheard of.
Preach‼️ The whole thing boggles my mind. Disney burned an entirely fleshed out Expanded Universe, only to piss on the ashes trying to make a quick $buck. I find the Sequel Trilogy un-effing-watchable. Not just out of my utter disdain for the three films. For the fact they created a trilogy without any forethought, or plan as to how their storyline (or lack thereof) would affect the rest of the previously established lore from the Original & Prequel Trilogies. Not to mention all the animated series, novels, comics, etc. If I ever see Rian Johnson or Kathleen Kennedy in public, I will summarily slap them across the face with a white glove like a southern gentleman, and demand my satisfaction by way of a duel. If they lose; Sequel Trilogy gets dropped from Canon. If I lose… …at least I will have the sweet release of never having to think about how they ruined my childhood every time I see a clip from the Gawd Awful Sequel Trilogy. I see it as a win-win in my book.
On god. It's like Knives Out too. The first one was a standard by the book murder mystery. The second one was a shitty subversion "there was no murder" where "rich guy evil". Sure it had decent ideas, so did TLJ, but Rian just can't execute shit
What are you talking about Rian firstly didn't do the thing Adam claimed I assume he was going to end with "then JJ changed his mind". Kylo at the end of Episode 8 became the villain. Because Rian killed of the master figure making it almost impossible to continue to copy the OT by Snoke taking over Palpatine's role by making the bad guy good because of an even badder guy. Rian made a new Star Wars story, he built on the same story structure for Luke as Lucas had. He built on corruption like Lucas had and so on. But it was right during that anti-sjw period so people were attacking movies that in any way represented women and minorities.
@@flouserschirdsadly that seems to be the only thing that makes sense. How can someone F up a golden franchise the way he did, it had to be on purpose. Even mark Hamill himself didn't agree with Rian at all.
Kylo Ren and Rey facetiming through the Force might be among my favorite Star Wars moments. Really beautiful and iconic. Wish we had gotten more of that.
Whoever thought it’s a good idea to do a trilogy with no plan despite „well it has to be three movies, because Star Wars“ is hopefully not at Lucasfilm anymore.
They are. The movies made a lot of money, the merch sells well, and the critics loved the movies. A success by many metrics to Disney. Most of the Star Wars fans don't care about Star Wars in the same way some of us more obsessed fans care. All of that and yet the movies aren't even good films in their own right. The Force Awakens has the most going for it, but it is still just a rehash of A New Hope. It truly blows my mind that they spent so much money and time making a trilogy and not having the story already figured out. The fact that it changed midway through is disasterous and is a major failure that ultimately lies on the production team.
@@dense_and_dullwhat are you. Talking about the merch of Disney Star Wars doesn’t sell. They even had to close down the cruiser hotel. Solo lost money. The force awakens had the good will of ROTS plus over a decade of no Star Wars films and made over 2B. Then when people realized how bad it was the next movie made 1.3B. That’s a drop of over 700M dollars. Then the last movie made 1.1B another drop of 200M for a total of at least 900M. The mandalorian lost half of its viewership for season 3. And they’re praying that baby gods will same them which is why the mando movie is called the mandolorian and grogu. Ashoka was bad, kenobi was bad. You now have multiple chapters taking direct lightsaber stabs and coming back. And now they have a Pakistani activist director who “loves to make men uncomfortable” slotted to direct the next Rey movie. I predict a bomb on par with the marvels. Even normie Star Wars channels are starting to ask questions as to why these movies are so bad now.
Best work around I can think of is to have mon mothma fill her role, say Leia was assassinated by a imperial loyalist or a knight of ren and mothma took that as a sign to start the resistance or something...
I still remember watching that last scene scene where he was killing all those troopers in the corridor and it always upset me that they didn’t do that final action scene with him and a blaster along with his lightsaber. It’s also would’ve hammered home that before he became a Jedi he was Han’s son. It just woulda been sick to see him rocking the lightsaber in one hand and the blaster in the other. Even have him do the classic Han pose but with the lightsaber in his free hand.
That would have been better than what they actually did. I would also like to have seen him go beyond the Light and the Dark as (I think) Ren mentions wanting to do at some point to the pure Force. So, he would still have helped Rey kill Palpatine- but he would have survived and then gone off on his own to pursue his new path. He’d have become more of a proper anti-hero, with his own personal power as his goal but still on the side of good up to a point, or perhaps even an anti-villain, doing very bad things for very good reasons. Pretty much anything would have been more interesting than what they did.

Wasted potential is the best summation for those movies. Aside from out right character assassination and the politics. They didn’t have a solid plan for a trilogy, but they did have decent set up that was squandered. Also, I will die on this hill, Finn should have been the main character. They should have done more with the fact that the storm troopers were all apparently kidnapped and brainwashed as children.
after episode 7 they completely forgot Finn used to be a stormtrooper
I’ll die on that hill with ya bud. His character was terribly written. That one amazing episode 7 trailer set him up to be the hero, with a very interesting background being a defected stormtrooper, and at the end, we see him terrified holding a familiar blue lightsaber facing the new bad guy, whats gonna happen?! Is this how Luke returns?? Will this new stormtrooper guy be his apprentice?! What will happen?! Then the movie comes out and he’s a goofy space janitor who just chases Rey around. And he only devolves into a lamer version of himself in episode 8… don’t even remember him in 9. Wasted potential
kidnapped stormtroopers could easily explain why stroomtroopers suck at shooting: many miss their shots on purpose as a protest (in secret)
I agree. It was literally the most interesting and deepest concept they had, and they fumbled it after the 1st film because the next director wanted to go rogue.
Im not even black and i was READY FOR FINN TO GET REY AND USE THE FORCE

Did he though? Just a knockoff vader who looked like a duck but was even more of an emo bitch who let himself get manipulated all the way to the end. A poorly written character with a good actor
It was bad writing and script all around for majority of the characters and plot
He was screwed over in Force Awakens anyway when they allowed Rey to best him the first she ignited a lightsaber.

He made Ren kill his master to become the main villain in 8, but then Abram came and redeemed him in 9 (making him NOT committed to the dark side).
The Luke in this trilogy was a psychopath. Luke never would've tried to kill his nephew he would've died trying to turn him back

That's way bigger than Kennedy.
I assume they saw Marvel on the upswing and figured it would be easy to quickly churn a cinematic universe out of Star Wars quickly.
Now that he says this about kylo’s arc it makes sense that he lost in the first movie because he was so unsure of himself and his power in the darkside they could have used that loss as a good motivator for him to get stronger and scarier in the second and third movies if they went that route i probably would have really enjoyed his character
He would of lost, won and then what both die
It is stated in the novelization and at the beginning of TLJ that the reason Kylo lost was because he was conflicted (and because he was heavily wounded ofc)
Ruin Johnson was the last nail in the coffin for the sequel trilogy
Reminder kids that when making a trilogy of movies it's important to
A: have clear and mutual communication with all and any other directors
B: come to an agreement for the direction of the movies
And C: DON'T FUCKING THROW AWAY EVERY PLOT LINE, ARC AND SET UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRILOGY, HAND IT BACK TO THE FIRST GUY AND SAY "HERE YA GO PAL, GOOD LUCK"
Almost like JarJar Abram’s should’ve written all three movies. Or just actually do George’s scripts
JJ knows how to direct and write characters with complexity. I feel like the first movie was just him t-ing it up for the next two just to have Ryan come up with world breaking scenarios.
Yeah, George's script should have been it, they basically payed billions for it lol
Preach‼️
The whole thing boggles my mind.
If I lose…
…at least I will have the sweet release of never having to think about how they ruined my childhood every time I see a clip from the Gawd Awful Sequel Trilogy.
I see it as a win-win in my book.
I am convinced Rian HATED Star Wars and the fans and purposely made a film to spite everyone.
