Its a good camera. Outside the EVF, better than the A7III in several ways.
You might start to look a bit pale once you total the cash required for a decent set of lenses, a gimbal, and a real tripod. But hey, there's always the ZV-1, which I would have bought over the A7C if Sony had redesigned the ZV-1 lens from 24-70mm to 18-55mm equivalent.

I was so torn between the Tamron 17-28 vs Sony 20mm for my a7c. I would have liked the little zoom, especially the 24mm focal length. But ended up going with 20mm since it’s smaller. Pretty happy with it!

what are your Rode Video NTG mic settings + A7C settings? I have the same setup but for some reason my mic sounds super weird all the time.
Long distance sound diagnostic is hard. Did you check if it needs phantom power? Did your Rode ever get dropped? It could be damaged. Did you set the sound level on the camera? Did you test recording the mic on another device? Maybe visit a friend with a mixer or some other type of recording gear and test it there.
Microphones are sensitive devices. The cable could be damaged. There could be a factory defect, so make sure you make use of the warranty, if you didn't find any fault in your signal chain.
I just want to watch this vlog now and learn to make those gorgeous cinnamon rolls!

You can set up a custom button for APSC crop mode so instead of going into that media you press one button and it enables /disabled it. Much quicker than how you've set it

imo youre missing out on a lot of the benefits of the a7c like using the multi interface shoe for the sony mic and using the bluetooth sony shooting grip but it looks like a good setup. What lenses do you like for the a7c? i only have the 20mm f1.8 sony g lens

Thank you for producing this video! I'm still confused on how the camera and mic are connected when you create your vlog A-roll. I'm guessing you boom your Rode mic but do you connect the mic to the camera or to your computer? Related to that is where are the video and audio being recorded to for A-roll? If it's all to the camera SD card, then how do you review each of your shots to see if you nailed them or need to reshoot? If it's all done using the camera, do you have to physically get out of your chair and walk around to the back of the camera to press play and rotate the screen back (if you turned it to face you while recording)? Otherwise, it would seem like a pain to rotate the camera after you got it all positioned for the shot only to have to reset it if the shot needed a retake. If you found a way to record direct to your computer, that would seem a nicer way to check each shot without disturbing the camera. If that's the case, what software are using for that? Lastly, how do you start and stop recording for each shot? Pressing the record button on the camera each time could be a pain if the camera was positioned out of reach. Do you use some type of remote and, if so, what make and model do you recommend?

This camera looks very heavy with the lens to walk around town and vlog with. I would think that the Sony ZV-1 is a better set-up that is easier to use. However, I do like the versatility of this camera and a significant cost comes with that. Have a fantastic day!
Great info, just watched your wife's vlog. Still a little shaky, seems to be a lack of full frame oss lenses for under £1000. Bit of a shame for run and gun style or vlogging. Thats the only thing stopping this from being super amazing.

Did you not get the kit-lens? I wonder how that compact f4 lens is for vlogging? Obviously your choice is better, but bigger. But is the other good enough?
Is that Tamron lens that you are using quiet enough when auto focusing? I have a couple sigma ones that I use on my Nikon and you can hear the lens autofocusing if there is no background noise.

Did you struggle with stabilisation when walking around and vlogging ? As the tamron lens does not have any form of stabilisation and the in body isn’t meant to be that good. Great review.

It would have been the perfect B CAM to my a7siii but no way I’m going back to the old menu. I want the continuity of same settings from camera to camera instead of having to memorize two different menus. I guess I’ll have to wait for the mark ii in order to get the same menu 🤷♀️
What about the Sony 16-35f4 lens vs this tamron?
I'd say that Fujifilm X-S10 + 18-55 or even a prime 18 or 23mm 1.4 lens is an better option. Who needs a full-frame? :D

Sony fdr x 3000 is the only best vlogging cam. Widest and no background blur.
Thank you very much. Could you review a more affordable lens please? And how does the kit lens work for home studio vlogging? I have ordered my a7c + kit lens and it must be delivered next week. I think a lot of beginners stuck in this dilemma. They bought a camera with kit lens or any cheap one, they plan to spend some extra cash to those Rode Go and lights to setup their place, and now it looks like people need to sell their legs and arms to buy expensive lenses. This is a full-frame camera for beginners, this is not a camera for A7III or A7sIII users who already own a giant shelf full of gmaster lenses. But most of the reviewers review it like 'Take this 1K lens and you are good to go'... Probably I am not right but it is what I am struggling now.

Kris the images are going to be better, this camera and lens are expensive over two grand just for the set up.
You may want to consider the zv1, or the 6400 or Cannon M50 or M6 mark two

When I first started my channel, I was skeptical of how difficult it was to continuously push out content Every. Single. Week.
