Lyrics:
Finally out the motherfuckin C-P-T
Off to other cities and shit
No longer just an underground hit
Movin thangs... a local nigga made good
And made a name off of making tapes for niggaz in the hood
And now, let me tell a little story
About the places that I been to and the shit that I been through
Like fightin and shootouts and bangin and shit
All because a nigga made a hit, check it
Nineteen-ninety-one, it was double or nothin that a nigga would hit
Then we broke out with the fonky shit
About bitches and niggaz and gettin drunken off that bud
I was doing the shit they hadn't heard of
But foolish was I to think that it wasn't no other cities like this
And that they didn't like this
That Compton was the home of a foot in yo ass
Where you got blast
And now that's just a thing of the past
Let me tell ya why firsthand, we did a show up in Oak-land
And niggaz was kickin up sand, to them bangin ain't nothin new
And slangin ain't nothin new
And for every nigga we done shot
They done shot two
Straight through and on since the sixties before I was born
Families of young niggaz mourn
So I'm just letting you know
That if ya plan to take a trip to the bay
Keep your hand on the clip - Hudba
West Coast Legend 🔥🐐
THIS SONG IS RELEVANT EVEN TODAY
Who’s here in 2024? Long live quick is the name “tonite”!!
dj quick not dead
Had to insult an east coast blood with a line from this song 😂😂😂😂
DJ Quik is not dead fam what you talking about
DJ quick not dead fam what you talking about
Because Milwaukee is just like Compton! Greetings from Zanzibar!!! 💃
Underrated song....he basically explained how the gang culture spread throughout the country.
Exactly He told us the truth☺
Gang culture was always around in America, dating back to the rise immigration on the east coast. Cities like NYC, Philly, Chicago, Newark, Boston and other's have been known to be ganglands that helped shape and build those places. Mafia in the 20s-50s was a real era. You had KKK patrolling the South since the slaves got there. They went strong throughout the 40s-70s. Black gangs are more new and this guy is rapping about how it's nothing new under the sun.
Except Oakland lol
@@americangangsterlock1550
Gang scholar.
That's wassup.
@@americangangsterlock1550 The new sh*t or overlooked part. Is how the real black Gangster's were forcefully removed in the 60's & 70's last would be the Black panther party. Then replaced by these so called new Gangster's & gangs like the bloods & crips in Cali in particular. Who do the exact opposite of what the real pro black Gangster's did in the 60's & 70's. Sh*t like this be ridiculously overlooked or ignored. When painting broad pictures

Legendary producer but underrated story rapper and story teller. Quick is a legend on both fronts.
Yup when I think of the greatest Hip Hop artists it's not Nas or Tupac, it's more like Large Professor and DJ Quik. Top tier emcees and producers
I remember buying DJ Quik's first album in 1991. I was 13. Now i see that he's still going on tours. God Bless his heart.
Same brotha, 13 in 91’ unfortunately I was apart of this culture already but he showed me there was a way out.
I was 11 grew up in Boyle heights califas!
I was 14 when this came out I grew up In an upper middle class neighborhood . Very very much suburbs. Eitherway I loved this I still do and it brings me right back , my IOU jeans , guess , and the best time of my life as an adolescent. This mans talent reached into everything everywhere everyone
Gifted storyteller with absolutely ridiculously underrated production skills!
Quik is so underrated, this is story telling at its best.
waa fwbkrequestyHenny Lopez =r
Hell yeah and he did it again with Safe and Sound.
Henny Lopez You said it Man
Henny Lopez real shit
Henny Lopez yes!!
This will forever be a classic lyrically and production wise.

Quik's voice made him so unique. God's gift. Great
@Marie Richard frr first time I heard this on the radio, I couldn’t tell if it was Eazy-E or Quik
He’s still alive.🤗
Thought it was E.
Influence G-Perico . Check him out
He sounds like eazy e
I remember when I saw this video on box videos. I was absolutely blown away by Quiks return once again another classic. If u grew up in the 90's you knew Quik took his time & he never put out garbage. When he dropped his album it was basically flawless. Production off the charts. Quik is one of the greatest of times no question.
Thank You, he was a big deal in hip hop in the 90's but once Dre and Snoop crossed over with their albums and were goin over triple platinum and other artist followed in the late 90's and early 2000's it makes Quik look irrelevant when you go back and look at his albums. His albums were still goin gold which was a big deal back then but once rappers started goin platinum consistently they just brushed off artist goin gold.If Quik had New Yorks support he probably would've been respected more but they didn't like him. Most of his love came from the midwest and south besides the west coast. When his 3rd album dropped he didn't really even go on tour and it still went gold off his name alone that's how popular he was just in the black community. If he would've sold out and tried to be on tv every minute like Snoop was no doubt white people in the suburbs would've bought a majority of his records too
@@hennessyapplejuice8331 He was big back in those days. He stopped touring after this song and all of the fights he would get in because he was Piru. He only toured the west and never strayed away from it, that's why he never became super big. But in Cali, dude is a legend!
@@jamesduckery Yea that's what i was basically trying to say.A few things set his career back but him stopping touring outside the west was a big part of it.I live in Ohio and remember when his first album dropped and it was huge.I had older cousins who were mid teens go to his concert and skipped school to see him when he arrived at our sports arena earlier that day. Some people was hip to doing that when artist came to town they would go catch them early on when they're checking equipment and all that sound stage stuff.Anyway they met him and said he was cool and they asked him was he a blood and they said he laughed and said what y'all know bout bloods and crips. He also told them he wasn't tryna sound like a after school special but make sure they finish school bcuz it was super important. He knew they obviously were suppose to be in school then but maybe didn't know if they skipped just to meet him or that was a regular thing to skip out.But yea Quik goin around the country he couldn't take his hood with him like he could more on the west where they all jump in cars and follow him so he was more comfortable
Hahaha omg the box ??? Yup This is how far I go back bro I used to get one of those old-school recorders that they would use in music class the ones I just had one speaker to play record the wine fast forward button and I would put it up to the TV to record my favorite videos and this was one of them
They don't know about the box I be tryna tell people... I was in Brightmo in the 90s watching this.
That flute tho 💞
that'swhat won me over when this 1st came out...true musical genuis

If you check out the song deeply, it's actually saying that it's not a good thing that those other cities "are just like Compton". The whole time, he talks about wanting to go to a place in which it's cool and people are not gang banging, only to find out, it's the same thing from back home.
Dumb ass.. no its not. He saying he thought compton was the only place ghetto like that till he went to other cities to find that other cities go hard yo
Eastside Scrapkilla *to
Eastside Scrapkilla What? Did you even read what i said before you wrote this? I just said he went to those places and found the same thing.
Eastside Scrapkilla Both of you fools is wrong, listen to the lyrics. @ 2:09 to 2:20 saying "they need to stop watchin colors and boyz in the hood" trying to claim and 60's and never seen the Shaw. " and if u aint knowin he's talkin bout the Rollin 60 Crips on Crenshaw. and at the end he says somethin bout how LA had such a influence on the rest of the country and thats what its about everyone wanna be lyke compton. so to Eastside Scrapkilla you the one lookin like a dumb ass speakin on shit you dont know.
Triggerman lol why ya'll trippin he's talking about all of that , so all of ya'll are right smh.

Love this song. The jingle bells give it a Christmas feel for some reason and I always think of Santa doing a drive-by on some mark-ass tricks LOL but it is an awesome song, and one of the best songs off Way 2 Fonky
Die Hard is a Christmas movie!
LLS when I read your comment and I agree with you on that Santa reference in my opinion as to how he is traveling around to different places and to find out that they are doing the same thing like being back in Compton , great song though ❤️💯
Let me find out Santa isnt just rocking in Red suit & sled for the Hell of it....lol
Great storytelling
Indeed true. What I really like about Quik is that he brought musicianship to his music and still does. Listening to him and other hip-hop acts from that era, you could tell he was way ahead of them.
Indeed
UNDFTDGordon good ear bro. Listen to the bassline, the keys, the drums, production is top notch!
dont like that shit
TimTharealdeal Harris I agree. He is telling a true story. Ice Cube and Slick Rick were also great storyteller rappers. Also Scarface and even Whodini and Run DMC had a message in their music.
The art of storytelling at its best😊
DJ Quick is one of the greatest rappers and producers that ever lived 🎶👍
Dj quik is the only person who can just talk on a beat and make it hard as hell
That is so true: He's really talking.
That’s basically what rap music is. He’s talking rhythmically.
Lmao what? You dont listen to much "rap" then 😭💀
I love how Quik put the Christmas riff in the beat.So so fonky.
Just noticed that...love this beat!
So original, so funky, so what we need nowadays!!! I'm glad that I grew up in this era of real music.
What Christmas song was used?
Bells ain’t just for Christmas. There’s a hundred hip hop songs with that same sound effect.
East coast also used this... Listen to Lord Finesse, Large Professor.
I'm from St. Louis and what he said was real

A lesson to be learned even today. Dj Quick a legend
quik is a hell of a good storyteller!
This song taught me that no matter where you go in the world it is gangsters. And gangsters just don't exist where you come from
Quik was only 18 when he wrote that first album of his (just a kid). Dude is incredibly talented, a true artist.
This guy was one of the best producers to come out the West Coast, true legend....
he is soooo underrated.

I have been listening to Dj Quik 4 years. And he doesn't get the props he deserves. He makes his own beats and he flows as well. A real West Coast legend in the game.
