War is really the thing they don't want, they know the tragedies of it, it appears on every page of their history. A little bit of context here : WW II was won *with* Russia, not *by* Russia.
Had the West not land-leased (and even sometimes donated) tons of equipment and other forms of support to Russia after that Germany invaded its territory, Russia would have ceased to exist as a country within a couple of months after the start of operation "Barbarossa"...
During WW II Russia was on the defense. This time around, they are on the offense. Offense is the hardest, because 1st you must take the terrain, then 2nd hold it... in a place where you usually do not have the sympathy/cooperation/... of the people living on this territory. Also, when on the offense, your guys don't have the "day-to-day", local "lived" experience of the terrain they are occupying, whilst the defenders have been living there for generations.
So yeah... those remarks from the German MP shows how little he knows about warfare and geopolitics. The lack of reflection and knowledge behind his remarks is appalling, to say the least...
At least somebody has clear conscience about what damages a war does to the country. Germany should reject Zelenskyy demand for more weapons and ask him to talk peace with Russia otherwise regime change for Ukriane and Zelenskyy be try for war crimes of slaughtering his own people.
