Lawrence you’re an absolute legend I was about to part with £400 for a provap I’m going to get one of these gas vaps 👍🏻
Thanks
Paul
I still really love my sublimox (provap equivalent) but there really isnt a huge amount in it. Some pros and cons to both. Cant argue with the portability and price of the gasvap!
Black Mountain Honey
I was looking at a unit from the states called easy vap but it would need an inverter plus I would’ve paying to import + duty I’ve just one clicked for the full gasvap kit hope to get it soon thanks again for your info
Paul
very similar to this gas vap, mine is straight ...no 45°,fitting,and my bowl has a brass plug, same concept with the culinary butane torch
Try a fiberglass exhaust wrap around the bowl of the gas vap to help with it getting too hot. My 110 vaporizer i purchased from johno's easy vap has one it seems to work well.
Great tip. Thanks Eric. I'll certainly give that a go. I was thinking of some oak plugs for the end caps and wedged them in tight. That ones in development
With the copper nozzle getting hot where do you insert it into the hive??? If you didn't modify the hive.
Keep the vids coming. "No nonsense" very welcome
I use wooden floors so it's not an issue but even with a POLY floor I just fire in through the entrance making sure not to touch the POLY. It definitely gets hot enough to melt the POLY. Glad you are enjoying the videos :)
The cap that contains the OA salt can pop up if the outlet for the vapor is clogged. This happens to me using the Johno vaporizer. I admit that I was not wearing gloves, my mask was just covering my mouth and nose. Two mistakes I will be protecting against. Would it be possible to have a U shaped wire that would be swung over the cap to secure it? TIA.
How did the gas cap hold up with the 450 treatments? Did you use apibioxal for all treatments?
Do you use apibioxal every year or will this build resistance?
It was ok. No damage to any caps although I did get a few extra so I could rotate between hot and cold caps. The mites wont build resistance to any form of OA as its a mechanical action that kills the varroa mite.
Sure beats carrying a battery from hive to hive, or getting a generator and moving that around.
Thank you for the review, I too have the Mk 2 version but I have a different torch. Do you know what make your torch is?
Yes. It's a Rekrow torch. I believe they offer the mk2 gasvap with both torch options. The rekrow is significantly more expensive but worth it if you have lots of hives. It has no added functionality just a lot more reliable
Black Mountain Honey I know the one you mean, they are £49.95 on Amazon but as you report it does look a good product. If anything I think I’ve been running mine too hot so probably need to turn it down a bit. That is my only issue, getting the temperature right.
@@petejesper Yes. That's the issue. You want to run it as low as possible, but the lower you go, the more likely it is to go out. The higher you go, the more likely the torch is to fail. Definitely worth the upgrade
First year keeper here, investigating the OA options. This looks like a really good choice for me, but when you tip the cap over to fit it, doesn't the OA fall out? Could you turn the whole thing upside-down and slot the body onto the cap that way?
Yes. Thats how its supposed to work. I just get a bit lazy and whack it on :)
I put the Gas Vap 1 on at 90 degrees, which means the OA cartridge goes on sideways - no flames in your face - then turn it back to drop the powder into the flame
Would you treat late evening when all the bees are back in the hive?
I just ordered mine last week. Question I have is how big of a hole will I need to drill in the hive in order to insert the spout? That way I know what size plug to use when I'm not treating. Thanks
I use a 10-15mm but you can get away with smaller. I like to double up as an entrance though with a nuc disc
@@BlackMountainHoney thanks for the quick reply. Do you by chance know the actual diameter of the spout? If not. no worries. I appreciate your help!
I finally received my GAS-VAP in the mail at the beginning of the week. The spout/nozzle whatever you want to call it. That inserts into the hive is exactly the same size as a 5/16 drill bit
Hi, I want to purchase the pro kit4, but the picture of the product on their website doesn't show the screw that ties on the nozzle of the torch, I wonder if is the same product! I am afraid that if I buy it, they might send me the old model. Do you know anything about that?
Thank you very much uploading this video?
Kind regards, Dan George
Sorry for the late reply. I think they only sell the model now with the screw thumb turn so you should be ok with the pro kit 4.
Thank you for the review!
Do you make the treatments with Gasvap only in the winter or also in the last summer after the last one harvest?
Do I understand correctly that you prefer to work with Gasvap than with Sublimox?
I still have to decide. It should be easy and fast for many beecolonies. Gasvap seems to be the right choice?
Thanks for your videos, best regards :)
It works well in both the summer and winter..in summer when there is brood you need numerous hits 5 days apart to be effective. I like both of them to be honest and still use both of them
@@BlackMountainHoney
Thank you for the answer!
I will test the new Gasvap. I like the advantage of mobility. My bees never stand on a street. The bees are often deep in the forest :D
Thanks, best regards :)
@@blackbox_gardener If they are deep in the forest with no vehicle access, gas vap is definitely the way to go.
@@BlackMountainHoney in summer when its brood, the varroa mites are 90 % protected by the capped brood and an oxalic acid treatment its just 10 % efficient.
I dont even bother to treat with oxalic when there is brood.Oxalic acid treatment its used at the begining of the winter when there is no brood and that way it is efficient.
Where can I procure one of these please?
How long do you leave the burner on to heat up enough for sublimation and do you use the lowest flame setting?
Takes about 15 seconds I reckon. Yes - I use the lowest setting :)
@@BlackMountainHoney Many thanks. I think you mentioned treating twice, maybe three times with the Gas-Vap a week apart, is that right?
@@simoncollins917 if its your autumn treatment, it needs 3-4 treatments, 5 days apart.
@@BlackMountainHoney thanks again! I have had a huge mite drop from the gas-vap treatment two days ago, and that is after using Apiguard at the end of summer! Other hives are fine. This was a captured swarm in July
@@simoncollins917 Thats good to hear that its working. Apiguard isnt the best IMO unless the temp is spot on
If you have a double deep hive would you use 2 scoops of oa?
It's very hard to over apply oxalic as a sublimate. I wouldn't double but go for 1.5 times the amount for a double brood colony.
how effective is this against mites when compared to a Pro Vap or wand-type vaporizer?
@@BlackMountainHoney Thank you for answering. When you say it is "not as reliable", what do you mean by this? What are the "reliability" issues? Thank You
Which Oxalic acid did you use Api - Bioxal?
Yeah its a bit rubbish compared to pure OA but its the only legal one to use.
👍👍👍👍👍Супер!
4 months and still waiting to recieve my product. Emailed 3 times no answer back.4/07/21
Ouch. That's no good. Have you messaged them on their facebook page?
Could you e-mail me the detailed photos please?
I really don’t feel comfortable using this kind of stuff. I know it’s a controversial subject.
I have one on order. Can't wait to get it.
You wont be disappointed. Great little product
